I've always heard politicians says things like we're going to be tough on drugs, however, isn't alcohol a drug? And nicotine and caffeine?  The legal drugs are still drugs. Even another drug that most people don't like to hear/talk about. I just heard about it myself today, it's called Aspartame.

Aspartame is very popular in artificial sweetners, like Equal and NutraSweet. It's even in Diet Coke and according to my source, it's like a drug. Once you go on it, you can't go back to regular sugar, it doesn't give you that...feeling for lack of a better word. However, it could lead to possible brain tumors, brain lesions, and lymphoma.

It's just plain ridiculous that in the state of Florida, if you're caught drunk driving, you get like what, a license suspension of about six months and maybe a fine while if you're caught with marijuana, not smoking it, just having at least five or six grams, you loose your license for two years.

So my question is this. If we're going to crack down so hard on illegal drugs, why won't they crack down on the legal drugs that are just as deadly.

I am just asking why can't we focus on the legal drugs as much as the illegal drugs? They are just as addictive and dangerous.

I see your point but they are "acceptable" drugs. Heck, anything you put in your body that can alter your mood is a drug. That means everything.
Aspartame..sure it's been around but to say, "Once you go on it, you can't go back to regular sugar, it doesn't give you that..." that is kind of a stretch. Just google Equal and see how the side effects that people have had. Some people have addictive personalities not all. Those people can get hooked on candy period.
Legal drugs are just that, legal, and many would end up arguing that if they focused on that then why are we not focusing on the illegals that are killing people. Show the stats of people strung out on Apsartame then they'll reconsider. I haven't seen anyone pushing "Equal" under the counter for money to buy alcohol. Sure much of the cocaine coming in to the USA is mixed with all these sweeteners you mentioned along with house cleaners and more.

I've never heard of anyone getting high off of snorting a line of Aspartame. That stuff does give me a migraine, though, so I steer clear of it. I get your point. Some of those "energy" drinks on the market ought to be outlawed.

Drugs. We should either outlaw all of it, or allow all of it.

I think that drugs are Darwin's way of natural selection for humans. Legalize everything, and let the losers extinctitize themselves.

(yeah, I know "extinctitize" ain't a word ;-)

I saw a news story years ago where a doctor stated he felt it was a shame that with the technology the US has that there are 3 drugs on the market that are absolutly no good and our children have access to all 3 and are perfectally legal. However there is 1 drug out there that has numerous medical advantages and its illegal. I am sure you all know what I am talking about. To those who dont, the 3 caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol, and the 1 is marijuanna.
My father once told me a good idea concerning all drugs. His idea was to legalize maijuanna, but as far as the other drugs decriminalize them so as to clear out the courts and prisons to save taxpayers money. When someone gets busted with the other drugs they get taken to one of the many military bases that have been closed down, given a choise of either rehab or all the drugs they want for free. If they choose the second then they are put out on the closed base and given all the drugs they want till they die. When they die the body is then taken out to the back somewhere and put in a big hole and covered with dirt. Problem solved and no more crime on the streets related to drugs.

Someone who uses maijuana regularly can become just as big a loser as an alcoholic.
MJ can also do as much lung damage as cigarettes.
Drug companies put out more toxins than tobacco companies.
They delay test results that show the drug is ineffective or dangerous.
The side effects are worse than the initial problem.
If you need to cut down on sugar, cut down, do not go on those sugar free products.
Your taste buds will adjust.
The sugar substitutes can be deadly.
"Light" is low fat and ok, but never "sugar free" products.
We drug our children in the extreme.
Once I thought the US protected the people, now, I feel that people in gov't are bought off and big business is free to kill as long as the profit margin is high enough to pay lobbyist.
Flash, I would agree with natural selection, but it seems the bottom of the food chain is more prolific!

The people I've talked to who are now officially addicted to Aspartame can't use regular sugar now. They can't explain why, though.

Here are the reasons that marijuana should be legalized:
1. You could lower the speed limit to about 20 mph.
2. The sugar based industries stock would sore.
3. The movie industry would advance because you would go see the same movie over and over because you couldn't remember it.
4. Everybody would be happier
5. There would be no more wars because if you can't remember where you left you gun you can't shoot anybody.
6. Pharmaceutical companies would have to start making bongs instead of pills.
7. No more road rage.
8. A lot more really stupid inventions.
9. You would be able to understand Bush.
10. Everybody would be happier, sorry I used that one already.

I'm not talking about marijuana problems? I'm talking with the problems with the drugs we're allowed to have! Tobacco, alcohol, caffeine, aspartame is now part of the list!

We should focus more on the legal drugs instead of finding harsher punishments for illegal ones. The punishments are already harsh!

Old enough to vote, but still not old enough to drink. I'm a student at a small college and I'm a lot nicer than my nickname implies. I average a 4.0 GPA and my likes include white chocolate, wrestling (especially the wrestlers Jeff Hardy and Shannon Moore), drawing, painting, rock music like Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage, Korn and Marilyn Manson, (yes I listen to Marilyn Manson wanna make something of it?) and video games. My dislikes are mushrooms, pickles, celebrity garbage, people who never look on both sides of the issues, people who generalize, Republicans in general and ignorance. I have been living in Central Florida for almost eight years and have been using most of my spare time to find every link between the oil tycoons and the Republicans in Congress.(Everyone has a hobby, this is mine).
