David Beckham is coming to America from Real Madrid next month.

My son says that Beckham is one of the best free kick takers in the world, having only a handful of players who match up to his caliber, like Ronaldinho and Frank Lampard.

What kind of things you think he will bring to the States?  Will he make any difference at all?

Some people may not care much about soccer.  As a matter of fact, MyFoxOrlando.com doesn't even have a Soccer tab in the Sports Section.  What gives?!

Do you care about soccer?  Do you think he is here for the $10 million a year or does he really want to encourage people to play soccer in America?  Do you think he will take the role of Captain from Landon Donovan?

Soccer is a growing sport now that it is played more within our schools...the children are our future...and I think your son called it right!

I am surprized that FOX don't cover the sport so much but like I said it is a growing sport! My son played Soccer and he was really good at it!

Hello, visiting from K.C. and noticed a post about soccer. Had to comment. I care greatly about soccer. It is a growing sport and hopefully Beckham will have a better impact and better luck than the great Pele did several years ago. Beckham is a great player still, even though he's "aging" a bit. We can't forget about Podolski, Cristiano Ronaldo (minus diving acts), and Thierry Henry as being in the same caliber or higher.

As for his ridiculous signing fee, I do think $250 million is a bit much. I really, really hope he's here to promote and encourage soccer in America rather than the $$$. He's been playing well for his country in recent matches and will probably continue his great play into the MLS. He will see and read the game faster than everyone else on the pitch when he arrives. It's hard to say if he'll take the role of captain away from Donovan.

I've also heard some rumors (not confirmed) that L.A. may also pick up another European talent in Luis Figo of Portugal. Again it's a rumor, and BTW Figo and Beckham on the same team is unfair.

Thanks for the comment, Di8828,

My son is into soccer a lot. He spends quite a bit of time watching the Fox Soccer Channel and now that the Gold Cup is on, he watches the Spanish channels as well.

At first, I was not such a fan of the game (who would spend 90 minutes watching people play to have a score of 0-0 at the end?!). However, now that my son plays the game, I am liking it more and more.

Hey, I'm even learning to scream "Gooooooooooooooolll" - LOL

Hey, Student,

Welcome to MyFoxOrlando.com!!

I see you know A LOT about soccer. I don't know much, but I do remember hearing the name Pelé for the first time when I was a child living in Mexico. I also remember watching the World Cup on TV in 1970 when Brazil won.

One thing I can say, Mexico is definitely into soccer!

Beckham is great, but Pelé is a legend!!

Thanks for stopping by NeZe! It's good to talk football with someone other than myself, lol.

Your son and I are quite a bit alike, except if I had FSC I probably would never leave the house. Ever...

I sincerely do hope Becks is able to ignite some passion within the US for soccer, as Mexico has for the sport. Though I know the US will probably never match the passion that Mexico has. The 0-0 draws are probably what drive some American sports enthusiasts away from soccer. Or at least the possibility of a nil nil outcome.
