my question is this, why is it the "LAW" for the stations to switch to digital of HD signal when at least some can not afford the cable or the converter box for their television?

I completely agree with you. When a law affects all of us throughout the U.S. I truly believe we should be able to vote on it. I feel badly for the elderly as well who may not be aware that free vouchers can be obtained to get a free converter box for their televisions. If I read correctly, I think only two converter boxes will be allowed for free in each household. However I don't think it's very fair to be stuck with it. Is it just me, or is the Government starting to enforce many changes at our expenses without thinking or caring how these changes will affect many?

Robin, you are correct in the free converter box, however, I am sure there are many that can not get to the store or the ares where they can get one,anf their televisions still will not work when the stations go digital

I received my voucher for a converter box worth $40. Took it to the stores that are on the list and they cost $59.99 (cheapest one) and you can only purchase certain ones, so I still had out of pocket cost. I bet there are going to be so many glitches in the change over some of us will never get to watch TV again. The whole thing stinks! Before you know it you'll have to pay to hear the radio too...; )

My point exactly. there might be free converters out there, but when it comes to those vouchers, the stors will say they are fore the ones we want you to have, whether you have the money or not, glitches or not we want you to have those that are expensive. of course if you want the news, the way I see it, we can either get the converter, get cable or use the wireless internet and a signal like I do.
