“She doesn’t have any foreign policy credentials,”

“You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean,          I don’t know what you can say. You can’t say anything.”

“I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, ‘I look out my window and I see Russia and so therefore I know something about Russia,”  “That kind of thing is insulting to the American people.”

---Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel (R)

Are you surprised that he said this about a fellow Republican?

Happy Blogging,

Mike

Mike I'm so over this _hit and the Csssy BS, I will be so glad when the first of the year gets here.. I would much rather have her as VP, than Bidden who has been in Congress for 40 yrs and hasn't done anything....What a waste of money, think about how much has been spent and how much good that money could have done in the right program...

It wouldn’t be the first time Hagel has slipped-up and revealed that he’s a Democrat in Repub clothing. What’s insulting is that he and the Dems are trying to distort the meaning of her statement this way, as if they missed her speech and then watched SNL . . . and thought the skit was real. I can believe that some people who have commented on this actually ARE that stupid. As for the rest who are just trying to trivialize the meaning behind what she said, they are also stupid to think that the public would believe them. It’s so petty and just looks desperate.

She said that after pointing out that Alaska is neighbors with Russia to emphasize the point and that it’s no exaggeration (it’s what, less than 100 miles away). Obviously the point is that as Governor and head of the Alaska Nat. Guard, she would have to be VERY well informed and familiar with the goings-on of Russia and relations with them. If you think about it for a second, the Alaska Nat. Guard of course has ALL SORTS of Unique and very serious tasks and responsibilities as a result. With short range Russian Nukes and Air/Naval Bases just across the Bering Strait, Russian Subs in the waters, CHINA also not so far away, I’m sure they have to constantly monitor all sorts of radars, sonars, conduct signal intelligence collecting/analysis activities, etc. and SHE, as governor would have to be fully informed and familiar with it all, as well as with our detailed relations.

That’s a whole lot different from heading the Kentucky National Guard for example – or ANY other, not to mention a heck of a lot more i

important International/military concerns and experience than Mr. Obama has . . . and she’s not running for President. Those who don’t understand that and make such ignorant comments just reveal that they are either “geographically challenged”, have no idea what’s going on in general, or think that the American people are really stupid – sad for a politician but not unexpected.

Not in the least!! Look at who is saying what and then judge for yourself. This person is a true to life idiot. The only reason he is saying something such as this is because he is jealous that he wasn't picked.

Not really. It is always going to happen. It should not be so cut and dry as Republican and Democrat. It is the best candidate for the job. I do think people think that just because they are registered with one party that means they must vote that way and it is not the case.

It's called desperation, And if we are voting on experience then McCain will win hands down.

No, I'm not surprised Hagel said those things, because they're true.

Palin has no foreign relation experience. Not counting Canada, she's set foot outside the USA once -- a trip to Germany, Iraq and Kuwait last year, just to visit Alaskans in our military there. (She likes to count Ireland as a fourth foreign country visited, but that was only for a refueling stop. So much for "thou shalt not bear false witness.")

As for the "seeing Russia from her window" nonsense, her eyesight would have to be bionic: the shortest distance between her home base of Wasilla, Alaska and Russia is 700-plus miles. Even if she could see Russia (and a sparsely populated corner of it, to boot), it would mean nothing as far as expertise is concerned: all of us on this blog can see the moon from our windows, but that doesn't make us qualified to become astronauts.

Finally, being governor of Alaska does not mean she has any "military" experience. The National Guard is run federally by the Department of Defense. Its operations are overseen not by the local state governor, but by the Chief of the National Guard Bureau, an appointee of the President who answers to the Secretaries and Chiefs of Staff of the Army and the Air Force.

Sensiblejoe:

If you don’t have a valid argument, don’t present lies as if they’re facts like you did here.

I’m surprised at the desperate lengths some Obama supporters will go in order to discredit Palin, the VP candidate. Petty things like this. When did Palin (not Tina Fey) say she could see Russia from her window (or house) in Wasilla? What’s the link to her speech in which she said that because I missed that one. I watched her mention it twice (RNC & 1st interview on NBC) and both times she pointed-out that Russia can be seen from there (Alaska – not her window in Wasilla) to emphasize that her STATE and Russia are very close neighbors; not her HOUSE and Russia. Can’t even say, “Nice try” on that one. To put this ridiculous frivolous argument to rest, by my atlas’s mileage scale, Wales Alaska is ~ 55 miles from Uelen Russia. St. Lawrence Island ~ 50 m from mainland Russia. Nome ~ 175 m from Uelen. Across water. I’m sure on a clear day, you can see Russia just fine from Alaska, which is what Palin said, and it obviously follows/implies that a governor in charge of a State so close to RUSSIA better be well-versed with our concerns about their Military, our relations, Russian politics, Relevant International Laws, etc. You follow? Sure you do.

You can’t just make things up to support your position when you have no valid argument SensiJoe – it just doesn’t work. Better to say nothing. By Law, the governor of any state is in direct command of the State’s National Guard and is directly involved with its day-to-day operations. Common Sense too, right

right? Sure, because that’s what a governor’s for: It’s the governor’s role to be responsible for statewide issues affected by external as well as internal activities; not that of the Federal Govt. The National Guard does not operate independently of the State governments without a call to Federalization of the Guard by the President, which in most cases requires the consent of the governor. You lied SensiJoe. From a quick search, here’s an article from George Mason University Law School that references this issue, clearly indicating that the National Guard is under the GOVERNOR’S CONTROL but can also be Federalized when needed (From: The Role of the National Guard in Disaster Response and Critical Infrastructure Protection)

Maeve Dion, Legal Research Associate. Email.
January 2007.

“These troops would shift from Title 32 status (under state governors’ control) to Chapter 10 status (federalized).
There are many pieces of existing legislation that define when the President may federalize the National Guard, but in most circumstances the President does so only with the request or consent of the governors. However, under certain provisions, like the Insurrection Act, the President may call troops into active duty without such consent.”
Role of Governor with Nat Guard

Huh, . . . what do ya know, the National Guard IS under the control of the State Governors, as I said. Isn’t that something. Your argument is a lie Joe. And with such conviction! But

it didn’t even make sense. Should have reasoned it out. No more lies Joe.

Mister Michael Dunston,

I am a troll from the Tampa Bay market, and not familiar with you. I'm kinda sorry about that. But, there is a small thing I wish to say.

I love what you say in your profile, there. It is more than "nice" that you look into these threads to get a sense of the "pulse" of the community.

You have made the statement, ". . . knowledge REALLY IS power." I would like to say, knowledge is nothing without wisdom to use it. Mind, that is not pointed at you, and is not even intended as a barb toward anyone.

I have knowledge that the First Article of the Constitution twice forbids Ex Post Facto Law and rulings. Yet, we see instances of Ex Post Facto Law having been passed and enforced, to the delight of the population in general.

I have knowledge that the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution prohibits "Double Jeopardy." Yet, we see people sued in Civil Court after being acquitted in Criminal Court. That is not good (and I belive OJ is Guilty).

Knowledge is not power unless it is used legitimately and correctly, and to just effect. If one segment of society has power to prevent another segment of society from using their knowledge, where are we as a Nation?

If she does, she's liable to drop all the campaign noise and go out hunting!!

My Mom, years ago, was cooking supper and lookied out the kitchen window to see a 'possum cutting through the back yeard.  She forgot about supper, grabbed the rifle and went after the 'possum.  Well, the 'possum got away, and when she got back to the house, the pan of oil she had left on the stove had caught fire.  She put out the fire, but a couple of cabinets had to be replaced.  Funny thing - Dad didn't yell at her about it.

nyerk-nyerk-nyerk - I want a girl, just like the girl, that married dear old Dad.
