From The Associated Press: Hillary Rodham Clinton said Tuesday she disagrees with Geraldine Ferraro, one of her fundraisers and the 1984 Democratic vice presidential candidate, for saying that Barack Obama "would not be in this position" if he were white instead of black.

In a brief interview with The Associated Press, Clinton said she regretted Ferraro's remarks. The Obama campaign has called on the New York senator to denounce the comments and remove Ferraro from her unpaid position with the campaign.

Last week, Ferraro told the Daily Breeze of Torrance, Calif.:  "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

What do you think about what Ferraro said?

Happy Blogging,

Mike

I only wish that Obama's skin color was white for a few weeks so people can get over the race and actually ask Obama what change he plans on bringing to The United States Presidential Office besides his skin color. The media loves to throw all of these racist issues out there instead of asking the candidates questions like ... umm... our economy perhaps?

You mean, about it being true?

Face it, calling him a dimwit is an insult to dimwits everywhere.

Isn't it interesting that spinning the words of well known people was fine and dandy when it was Republicans that were the victims of such, but now the media is attacking their own and they are upset! Ferraro was furious about it being her of all people...

I remember when Lott was destroyed for an off color remark and forced to step down, Dodd was leading that charge, and a year later Dodd actually made an off color remark on the floor while celebrating Sen. Byrd, and NOTHING was ever said.

Now we find Democrats just shocked that they are being held to a standard, and they don't know how to react!

It's simply true; if he were white, and up there spouting off empty statements about change, he'd be nowhere. Because he's half-black, he comes off as a "rock-star," for change, and the fools in this country just ride the bandwagon...
Reminds me of the idiots you see on TV right before Christmas. They'll do anything just to own one of the season's hottest toys...it's that mentality that's going to screw us. I talked to a girl the other day that was going to vote for him merely because he was a good speaker....holy crap! Well, 25min later, after hearing all about what he's done and hasn't done, she's changed her mind...maybe...Ferraro's right, if he weren't black the media wouldn't be having this love affair with him, and he'd be a nobody.

Not to keep this firestorm going, but what she said is true.

If Obama were white, Hillary would be the only contender for the democrats. Everybody is screaming about, but I haven't really heard that many people deny it, makes one wonder.

I like Obama, but I am not going to vote for him and not because he is black, his color makes no difference. His lack of experience does.

I am a democrat but if Obama gets the nomination then I will be voting for McCain

Can't say I agree with any of Ferraro's political views, but you have to admit, she just said aloud to a public audience what a lot of us were already speculating. Besides, like it was said earlier, Freedom of Speech. It works BOTH ways.

First, Margaret Chase Smith, ME was the first woman nominated to run for President. Second was Shirley Chisom who actually ran for President in the early 70's. Hillary is the first really objectionable female person to run for President.
I really think that Ferraro, like Bill, was speaking for Hillary with her consent. She just likes to have others do her dirty work, so she looks above it, except for those times when she just can't hold her nastiness in.
As far as Obama being an idiot, you have to admit that the presedent has been set. Hillary also claims that Obama is not really in the politically IN crowd like she is. Now that can be a plus when all the others are into protecting their own personal interests to the even when it means sinking the ship.

Yea, but she isn't really upset that people are taking her statement to account, she is mad that the mainstream media no longer is giving Democrats like her the cover they have enjoyed operating under for decades.

Not being partisan here honestly, but nobody cared when Sen.Lott was forced to step down, and Dodd was given a pass later on. The Democrats are upset that hypocracy is now being taken to task and the thought of anyone on the left being held accountable for anything is being met with absolute disgust.

Hitlery continues to make dumb mistakes in picking her staff and potential VP candidates. She was considering Spitzer as her VP. She just doesn't get this whole sex thing does she? She doesn't have any male BLEEP radar even with her hubby.

I don't care for GF but what she said is true and the fact is “truth” is considered an absolute defense against defamation of character , Obama is in fact unqualified for this or any public office IF not for the color of his skin...even more importantly if he where actually a white man his actions and statements (from the pulpit of his church) could possibly get him landed in jail, but would definitely brand him what he is a “Racist” and drum him out of politics for good.

Ive said for over a year now that Obama is McGovern politics reincarnated. Even the fact that I don't support McCain, the Republicans will keep the White House, and what we really need to do is not loose sight of what Harry Reid and Pelosi are up to right now! Pelosi is blocking the PAA for FISA, and trying to pass off a different bill as we speak! Guess Democrats learned nothing from SCHIP did they...

Pelosi single handedly has blinded modern intel! God forbid someone on the planet be hurt or attacked and we link it to not having FISA! Democrats are playing with not just fire but National Security for political agenda!! The votes are there and Pelosi is sitting on it like a spoiled little brat that can't get her way! I say we Impeach her silly little Bay Area Butt!!

What Ferraro said was not politically correct but was actually correct.People are so darn afraid to say anything about "teflon" Obama, it's nuts. If someone says something about him, they're labeled a racist. He is just as bad as Jackson or Sharpton they use the race card like a shield. The media play up to Obama, Jackson and Sharpton like brownnosing lap dogs. And by the way Fox news is no different than the other media brownnosers.

Ferraro said NOTHING wrong! Everyone is always pulling the race card out before thinking about it.
All she meant was that Obama is getting the black vote. Black voters are turning out in record numbers to vote for the black candidate. That's all.
There's nothing wrong with that. Especially since it's true. Do any of you think that if Obama was white, that the black voters would be turning out in record numbers?....NOT A CHANCE.

And that was her point....this had nothing to do with race until someone pulled the race card out and turned this into a racial issue.

Sharpton and Jackson both need to keep their mouths shut! Their both crooks

I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that the Clinton campaign asked Ferraro to make the comments in question. "Billary" has repeatedly stooped to the same mean-spirited dirty tricks that were a hallmark of Slick Willy's career. Even many who support her policies agree that Clinton's approach represents all that is wrong with politics today.

Personally, I agree with the professor who said she's a monster, and would rather do without a president than have her in office.

Incidentally, it's interesting to consider whether Clinton would be where SHE is if she weren't a woman (ironically, the same was true of Ferraro). Despite her claims, she has less experience in elective office than the relatively inexperienced Obama (look it up if you don't believe me). Her 10 years as a corporate attorney for WalMart, one of the most cut-throat businesses in the world, and her 8 years as first lady don't count as "hands on" political experience.

I would be willing to give her credit for her badly bungled excursion into universal health care during Slick Willy's first administration. Not sure she'd care to discuss though :-)

I bet Mcain loves all this (D) coverage.

Clinton / Ferraro
Obama / Raceist Preacher
Bill / Monica L.
T. Kennedy / Girl on bridge
Nixon / Watergate
J.F.K. / Alleged Girlfried

Anyone see a pattern here.....

Let me just say that...Obama is a RICH WHITE man...he was raised by his mother and grandmother. But I think it is convenient to use his Kenyan side to run for the presidency...oh, lets not for get his Indonesian side.
