Today President Bush predicted that a Mideast peace treaty would be signed by the time he leaves office next year.

Other Presidents before him have tried to do the same thing.

What do you think? Can it be done? Will it be done?

Happy Blogging,

Mike

Whatever deal is arranged it will only temporarily stop the violence. Unless, knowing Bush, he plans on giving them their own State and then implanting a Western friendly Government that will manipulate the people. That's probably what will happen, might even work for awhile until the people catch on and then all hell breaks loose again.

Can or will it be done are really irrelevant guestions. If it is done, will it be subject to varification and be abided by ? That is the only question that ultimately matters. The assumption that some words pasted on a piece of paper will solve anything is rather naive. Only cooperation by two willing parties will solve anything. Most treaties are like marriages of convenience, when their usefullness to one party is deemed useless or unneccessary, they are swiftly annulled. Don't believe that ? Pick any time period and place in the last 2,000 years of recorded history, and see if treaties were effective and lasting then. There are two notable exceptions in the Middle East at present, the separate treaties between Israel and Egypt. The second, between Israel and Jordan. In this case all three parties have benefited. However there is no absolute guarentee that they will last indefinately. With the likes of Al Queda and Hamas, either moderate Arab goverment could feasibly be toppeled. Lebanon was a beautiful, peacefull country, that was on ce the banking capitol of the middle East. Enter Syria and Hamas with their agendas, paradise lost !

The Palestinians haven't honored any agreement they've signed since 1948. Why do we think they'll abide by any agreement Bush produces. Islam teaches Muslims to make peace with their enemies in order to give them enough time to gain the strength needed to destroy them. Breaking treaties is a part of their religion.

Bush has ignored the Mideast problem for the past seven years -- despite its begging for American attention. His 11th hour photo op for a treaty now is nothing much than a desperate ploy to add at least one positive thing to his sad legacy before he leaves office.

Is this going to be a habit for lame duck presidents who are suffering from low approval ratings? Clinton did it after Monica, etc. and now George II is doing it again.

George II predicts that he will solve the middle east problems and the world can only hope that his abilities to predict are better than his other abilities. He has weakened our military even more, increased the national debt and trade deficit, expanded government, allowed illegal immigration to increase at record rates, started a war in Iraq while we were fighting in Afghanistan, hunted down and killed Saddam while allowing Bin Laden the perpetrator of the attack on the twin towers to escape, neglected Veterans, and we are about to enter the second recession during his presidency, not to mention that he has not made any effort to improve our national election system after the fiasco in Florida in 2000. He speaks Spanish, but does he speak any of the languages of the Middle East?

Hi everybody, knowledge REALLY IS power. As the 5pm co-anchor/reporter here at FOX 35, I learn something new each day from the people in our community who share their stories, opinions, and experiences. That's why I love journalism, and what we do here at the station. With these blogs, I hope we can learn from each other, share information, and grow from the diverse viewpoints around Central Florida. So, as I'm doing in this picture: sit back, relax, and blog away! Thanks so much, Mike
