Caught this article in the Sentinel this morning : State to sell executive jet for $ 1.35M. The article goes on state that the aircraft is a Beechcraft King Air turboprop. A jet and a turboprop are not one in the same. The Florida Department of Management Services agreed to take the high bid though they thought it about $600,000 less than the plane was worth. Two other bids came in at $1.03 million and $727,770 respectively. A recent legislative study recently concluded that the state could save between $700,000 to $2.5 million a year by selling one or more of it's planes and using commercial charter or air-taxi services. This information was taken from the Orlando Sentinel and contributed by The Associated Press.

On a small side note, while the King Air is a good aircraft, one can buy a Hawker DH 125 jet for approximately the same as the sale price the state excepted. The difference is that the Hawker is a jet, faster, and with a larger cabin offering full walk-in height minus a baseball cap if you're 6'-0" and more seating options.

Reguardless, I think it is a good move by the State of Florida. Now if only we can get Senators and Congressmen on commercial flights !

Who bought this plane? I guarantee it was a closed, secret bid, too. Pretty good deal, get a plane at a $600,000 or a 44% discount. I'll bet it was a Jeb Bush or Charlie Crist Crony. IMHO Thank You For Your Indulgence

jeokar, the buyer was listed as George Levin of Fort Lauderdale. In selling anything used, you've got to remember, it's only worth what the next guy will pay for it. So there vis no real discount, and as I'd mentioned there are compareable planes pricewise that may offer more to a potential buyer. In some cases people prefer a real walk-in lav versus something resembling a kid's porta potty. If it had beeen an insurance claim and the state had replacement cost coverage it might have been a different dollar value, but that isn't the case. Captain and Cromagnonwoman, I was blessed with a daughter that isn't a big pie eater. Pity, I'll have to polish the pecan pie off all by myself ! lol

Meb452 you are right and almost every state is selling there planes & jets, the people are making there law maker take coach flights or drive. I would like to see them use GRAYHOUND myself, it would stop alot of unneeded trips.

Rottweiler, I'm not a vet, but the guys in Nam had a term for the fight from the rear crowd, REMF's. That easily could apply to a great many politicians as evidenced by lifestyle, decisions, and habit. Those overseas fact-finding missions by the House and Senate really burn me as well. They all need to learn to live within a budget and their means like the common man and woman !
