Is it me or do the T.V. stations way over play the weather hipe. You know all they the Weather reports are always wanting to tell us how we should not water our yards wash our cars or shower to often. The Lakes are Rivers in Florida can well do with the rain that Mother Nature has sent us. We need ever drop of this rain and yes more as well. So please quit complaining and visit your local lake soon. However feel free to water your grass and shower before your visit.

The Big O is down 20 plus feet

Lake Toho down 4 to 6 feet

Staint Johns river 6 to 8 feet below normal level

These are only a few but all of the inland water ways are very low and the costal counties need the rain to put water back into the ground water to stop the salt water intrusion.

So go back to the office and stop looking foolish standing in a storm that we all can see for our selves how much rain is falling. I can't believe that you have made this poor little storm out to be such a bad thing as bad as we need this rain.

When did you last check the ST Johns ? It was actually a bit high before this storm hit, last week I boated from SR 520 to almost Sanford with a V-hull ! We usually have to run a flat boat to make it up that river but she has an average draft of 6 foot all the way right now...and yes my grass was very happy at the start of this TS but now it is under 9 inches of water so I don't think it is very happy now!

I've fished the SJ for about 20 years. The level it's at rigrt now is 5.3 ft below full pool.
The fact that your grass has 9 inches of water standing is not the storms fault but rather the builders. One thing is for sure you can't change Mother Nature but you should always check your foold plan. That 100 year high level is ok if,,,,IF,,,and only IF the surrounding area hasn't changed. If roads andbuildings and homes have now been added to that area, well then the perk rate has changed cement and asphult won't let the earth soak up the rain as it should. Good Luck and hope you're not damaged by the rain.

...not sure what the problem on your end of the river could be , but right now today we can't use the “low launch” on SR50 because the water is almost all the way to the top of the road leading down to it ! As of last Thursday we where about 2 foot shy of flood stage at this location on the river (putting the boat in was easy LOL) ...if you are that short I will have to run up river and see where the hold up is because we have plenty of water !
You are saying 5.3 below full pool and I had less than 2 foot shy of full pool , in fact the flying field we have just off shore* is completely submerged and i can't even see the 4 foot tall pylons on the field from the roadway !
*1/2 mile south of SR50 we have a dry grass landing strip 600 foot long that has not been completely submerged in the past 25 years...

Not saying that TODAY the SJ is low but before the rain it was. This rain will most like cause the smaller lakes to flush and the SJ too. Which is exactly what they needed to prevent fish kills from low O2 and high temps.
That area where you are talking about is always flooding when we get a good rain. Don't know about the airstrip.

O yea i forgot about the “bloom” we had a few weeks back ....you are right we could use a good purge but I bet it will not happen ! Remember that project they started a few months ago in the Everglades to build a “holding pond” covering 4 thousand acres ? What do you want to bet that they are going to slow the flow to keep it from wrecking that little pet project ! I will call my Brother tonight , he works on the drain systems in Palm Beach county ...and see if he knows anything about the plan and how it will affect us up here over the next few years ...do you know off hand how full the Big-O is right now ? ...after the rain

...just saying our “flush” will not work if they keep the locks closed and it can't actually “flush” down stream from here, o well we will know by next week what will happen (and who to yell at)

Arrived in Florida in 1987 and haven't stopped fishing yet......Bass Fishing If you haven't tried it, you should. Great sport ! (catch & release please) I enjoy the outdoors, traveling, and living life to its fullest. I do hunt, however, my shots are only with a camera. The mountains are my favorite place on earth. Well that may be a little overstated . A lake at dawn , at sunset, or on a moonlit night can also give one a feeling of knowing true inter-peace. I hope that you will join me and GIVE THANKS FOR THOSE WHO FIGHT TO KEEP OUR WAY OF LIFE POSSIBLE, AND PRAY FOR THEM, AND THEIR FAMILIES. I'm a Veteran and proud that I served. When I see our Flag Fly, anywhere, anytime, that feeling of PRIDE IS JUST WONDERFUL.....I hope every American has that feeling.
