I heard something on the debate that has struck some thought with me..

Is healthcare a right or responsibility??

I guess something that I have to ask is America responsible with their health?  I know this may sound naive, but it just occured to me how unhealthy America really is!!  Eating the way we do, drinking, smoking, neglect and behaviors have contributed to the downfall of the basic health in this country...

What do you think Central Florida??  Are the rates 100% due to greed?  Or are Americans selfishly endulging and neglected where they shouldn't?  I used to work in the insurance industry..and the one thing I found interesting was the way employers hand picked the exact plan they wanted..I mean down to the tiniest detail..they said this and that..they dictated what they wanted, and how much they wanted to pay..often times, our company jumped through hoops and made exceptions to accomadate the businesses...so I have a little different take on "insurance"...  would love to hear some talk on this...

Once we have another entitlement like social health care the Gov. will make damn sure they control what we eat, smoke, and drink....it's all part of losing more freedom from socialization.

I agree!!! Have had to many verbal battles about socialized medicine... if people thought HMO's were bad...wait for Government controlled insurance to arrive!

I was in the military I know what socialized health care is like....Plus I have family in canada..They say it is so bad they have to have personal insurance on top of the social crapola. My aunt had to wait 3 years for knee surgery and by the time she got it, it was to late and now her knee is beyond repair

I am happy with our coverage. I doubt that my coverage will be considered adequate under an Obama administration. I like being able to pick and choose what is needed form myself and my family. It's none of government's business. He actually said he would fine parents for not having health insurance for their kids. I think that part of being a responsible parent is providing health insurance for our kids, but I remember when my husband changed jobs. We didn't have insurance for 3 months. The COBRA was insanely high and we were all healthy, so we took a gamble. We came out ahead. Just before he left the old job I took everyone to the doctor for a check up. There was nothing wrong with us. Then about 5 weeks in to the 3 months my son got an ear infection. I just paid cash for the doctor bill. Then we got the insurance from his new employer. The years have gone by and now that employer's health insurance for the family is insanely expensive, so the kids and I have a HSA and a catastrophe plan. We're healthy, so I don't see the big deal. I do not have the entire deductible in the HSA. I am, however, able to come up with the rest if necessary. This plan works well for us. I can just see the writing on the wall now if that butt-head is elected.

This fine on parents for not having health insurance for their kids DIRECTLY impacts middle class people. The "poor" (better definition is lazy) have medicade anyway. They are already covered by our tax dollars. The wealthy are able to afford whatever they want. That leaves us, the middle class. This fine is just to punish us, the evil, white, middle class of America. The heart of America.

We are supposed to have personal responsibility but that seems to lack in almost every aspect of our lives. In my opinion the pharm. industry is its own circus act. Hire barbie and ken dolls and overpay them to go cut in front of the paying customer who has a scheduled appointment to go push their pills. Then we go pay our co pay and our insurance co. picks up the rest. I think there should be a financial incentive for keeping yourself healthy and a punishment if you are sick and you could have controlled it.

Not for nothing but my wife and I were driving around the other day and this HUGE lady is getting out of her car (parked in handicap space) and into a wheelchair. This tub of goo could not even walk she was so fat. Well my wife says "oh look at that poor lady" and I say " ya mcdonalds forced her to come and those twinkies jumped down her throat". She ate herself to death and her reward is to make the taxpayers pay for her sorry butt!!

C'mon Lisa, you didn't know it was your RIGHT to have entitlements? That it's your RIGHT to have as many kids as possible, regardless if you can care for them or not? Obama is hereee...according to Ludacris, anyway, and he will take us all to the promised land...

I work with a lot of folks from european countries , and they like the univeral health system in their home countries; but they don't understand why we wouldn't want it....
I had to give them a "neutral color," answer and say, "It won't work here because we have too many freeloaders that clog the system..."

Illegals and those supporters of Obama that by choice, choose not to work because they can live off and milk the system. The foreigner's eyes widened, as he couldn't believe such a thing....I reminded him of the Superdome in New Orleans, during Katrina, and how everyone sat around waiting for the government to bail them out...."That's Obama," I said.

Then, on the other hand was the entire town in Kansas, "Greenville or Greenburg," (I think) that was completely wiped off the map by tornadoes...yet the townfolk took initiative, and rebuilt without the Gov't holding their hand..."That's McCain," I added. He understood the difference rather quickly.

If we are going to be taxed so heavily, as we are right now, then, Yes, it is the governments responsiblity to make sure that every citizen of the U.S. has free health care and preventive care.

If we are going to eliminate most of the tax burden, then no.

Some people forget that those with limited incomes pay a much higher percentage on taxes than the wealthy. That is a fact. We all think of income taxes. While many may not pay income taxes who are below a certain income level, they a paying in many other ways.

Sales Tax
Gas Tax
Vehicle Licensing (yes, it's a tax)

Just these three alone make up for a heavy burden to those who are trying to make ends meet.

If we are to continue taxing at the current levels, then yes, give me free health care. Otherwise, lower the tax burden, and I'll buy my own.

TM- ?? not understanding, i agree with you though..
sipedo- lets remember those NOT paying income taxes but paying gas, sales, etc are still NOT paying as much as the people paying income tax... not sure where the logic is that they pay more..that is untrue...and as someone who has gone from income of 20k to over 100k, our bracket nicely increases as well...rendering it more difficult to ever truly get ahead.
If you believe the amount of tax that is collected can possibly pay for the medical coverage needed for spoiled, irresponsible, unhealthy America would need, you are not being realistic...that was my point of this blog..with Americas health behaviors, should insurance be a right or responsibility...

Actually you pose a very good question. It is everyone's responsibility to make sure they have medical health insurance coverage (the same goes for home owner's insurance - flood insurance - car insurance - and so on) however there are two problems - one being that the premiums are way out of line and are too costly for many to afford - the other is that people don't want to spend that money on health insurance but would rather buy more material things in their lives. The health care premiums that keep rising each year are voted for by the Health Commissioner - they should be looked at and questioned how is it they determine that a family of lets say 4 or 5 could possibly afford a monthly premium of up to $ 900.00 a month or so - just to take the chance in using the insurance when it's needed. If you don't believe the premium amounts - just ask for PPO quotes on a family of 5 from Blue Cross Blue Shield. That is highway robbery. We are wanting to be made to obtain health coverage by the Democrats - but as socialized medicine everyone of us who earn money will have to pay taxes out of our earned dollars at the end of the day for those who choose not to work not to work for it either - so how much will be taken out of our hard earned money to meet the premiums needed for each family? And who gets to pocket the rest that is not used? I see the Democrats making millions off of tax payer money! Extra money that many of us just don't have.

Instead of forcing socialized medicine on everyone - there needs to be an investigation into the Insurance Commissioner to determine

Instead of forcing socialized medicine on everyone - there needs to be an investigation into the Insurance Commissioner to determine why health care premiums are allowed to rise at an amount that people cannot afford - and to what kick back - if any - the Commissioner is getting for allowing this to happen. And the Pharmaceutical Companies are making big profits on those who have to pay for those who get their medicines for free. Look at the millions Pharmaceutical Companies could save if they didn't visit every single medical office and/or hospital to shove Samples down their throats! When you visit a doctor's office and a sample is given to you - ask yourself - why so much packaging for one or two pills - that's a little excessive isn't it? Why should we have to pay for wasteful advertising?

Everything involving cost to the consumer needs to be on a more - affordable - realistic level . Remember years ago when we all found out that an ashtray for an airplane would cost around a thousand dollars - a toilet costing thousands of dollars - I am sure we all thought that to be ridiculous and a waste of money for the airlines especially since people are not allowed to smoke any longer - so why should the rates of hospital and health care be so outrageous? Secondly - many individuals have learned that they don't have to buy any type of insurance because if they cry loud enough - the Government will step in and pay for it for them. So we have become a processed society to where we want everything handed to us for free and get our noses bent out of joint when we are ma

So we have become a processed society to where we want everything handed to us for free and get our noses bent out of joint when we are made to do the right thing and that's to actually be Responsible U.S. Citizens. I personally can understand why people are tired of paying insurance though especially when the rates are not locked in and are out of control. By the time we spend our money on insurance for all types required - taxes on everything required - we have no money to live off of. So I suppose the two edged sword to look at is that if EVERY US Citizen did the right - responsible thing - paying for everything they should - then where would our economy be - because we would not be able to afford anything material other than what would be needed to survive on. Great topic!

ZipItHippy: they live in Ontario huh? Sadly enough Ontario conservatives make obama look like a hard core conservative LOL.. not to mention they get what they reap.. the last 4 bi-elections they've had 70% of eligible voters did not turn out, the ones that did were fruit cake liberals. Some myths about the Canadian system, so it's horrible in liberal Ontario.. each province runs their own system, federally it's only about taking money and transferring it. I pay more here in FL tax wise than I did in Canada.. My knee surgery took 3 months cause I elected to wait for the specialist to come to my small city of 13K for a 2 hour radius in any direction. It's government it's our right to bitch about it..

You should also ask your relatives what their insurance covers, dental two massages a year, medically necessary sex changes .. You know all the really important stuff :P .. 25 bucks a month and got braces for a 100 bucks a year :) .. Their insurance covers the extras that we don't get with our regular health insurance it's above and beyond.. just so you know the attitude of ontario!... Ontario >= the center of the universe..

If you missed the PBS special about many of the
different ways other countries are providing
healthcare, you may be able to search the video
through Google. Encoded cards were used by some,
so people always had their medical history handy.
In some countries, there were caps set for all types
of medical services preformed. Some countries
combined various things other countries were
doing, and kept the best. There is much that
could be done here. Obama is more open to new
ideas in ways to make healthcare more affordable.

rex mom ,
To equate the poor with lazy is unfair, not everyone doing manual labor is from athird world country. Not all are in asituation where Mom and Dad can keep them while they get a college education. My point is Social Insecurity /medicare-medicade started out as a good idea,an insurance fund for lower income Americans. The problem came about in the 60's when it was thrown into the general fund. Also this is the time frame that wicca was added.Having dealt with these people I know there are a number of bureucrats that believe that if you can swim a river or climb a fence you are entitledd to benifits.

Cynpro -the only problem is, some of the healthcare systems worked in other countries because they have a WORKING base of people to tax; not of a bunch of illegals and freeloaders draining the system. Also, to make matters worse, the same two classes, illegals and many minorities are having 5-6 kids each; all on our nickel....so, one worker is supporting about 10 kids! That aren't even his! You cannot break the back of the worker just to serve entitlements to the lazy slackers....that's obama's dream; to coddle illegals and his own 1/2 race that's been "mistreated," so long!

Ohyeah, Cynpro - another thing your post where Obama won the debate, false.

limits for what doctors, hospitals, pharmacies,

simply good ideas that we could utilize here.

LOL.. CYN.. that debate was hands down Obama's worst "performance for the cameras yet.." HOWEVER.. I agree with one point you made, imagine that!! Obama is open to new ideas, but stuck on one... what you are looking for regulation in every aspect by the government Cyn..true democrat..it is all fine and dandy till you are regulated beyond your wildest of dreams!! Lisa, Obama is open to new ideas, as long as they produce votes for him; i.e., ACORN's illegal activities, etc. McCAin will listen to new ideas, same with Palin. I don't see much teamwork from O'Biden, unless they're the ones that had the idea.

CYNICALPRO - you're a censoring moron, who continually reads the CNN polls. I'm being hard on you, because if OBama gets elected, we'll face tougher times, so start training now. I'm disgusted that you, like obama, lack the courage to face those that can contradict your fluffy statements; re: your censoring your blog so only liberals can post.

The reason socialized medicine won't work in America has nothing to do with the government..Americans are spoiled and selfish..they want the top of the line, cadillac healthcare and will not tolerate the cheap unattractive healthcare this will give them... Americans hate HMO's..wait till obama's healthcare package is given...they will despise the universal package Obama has in mind..lets hope it never passes..because I can't stand listening to the complaints this country will make!

I am a wife and mother of 4....I love to write, and appreciate this form of art. I believe America's attitude of no longer caring needs to be changed, and perhaps I can get others to start talking and caring again! I moved to Florida in late 2007 due to a job transfer through my husbands employer. This has given me the opportunity to leave the corporate world to persue being a full time mother and homemaker...just to learn that the rest of my job titles don't stop there! I am my two children's (the ones still at home) biggest cheerleader! With the drama of a teenage girl and the athlete that is my football playing son, I stay busy! I have published poetry at Cross Way Publications...and continue to persue a future as an inspirational speaker, having my first opportunity after I moved to Florida. I believe in this country, though I have had doubts over the past several years...I believe in Americans...I believe in God.. I am adjusting to the weather! I came from Colorado where it is pleasant 85% of the time!! I'm an outdoor, sport fanatic girl, who still hates bugs!
