I have a confession....

My little convertible was on its last legs....so I traded her in for an SUV.

Yes, I feel guilty about driving a gas guzzler now.  But, they're so cheap these days they're practically giving them away!  I factored in the extra cost of gas over the next few years, and I still made out in the deal.

Besides, it was getting a little tough squeezing all my stuff, friends, boyfriend, and two dogs in my little two-door.

I promise to still use my eco-friendly grocery bag instead of plastic.  Girl Scout's honor.

My younger sis works for a major department store.  Does fashion and design work for them....  she called me recently and told me the CHRISTMAS displays are already going up!!

I haven't even gotten my Halloween pumpkin yet!

I love Christmas as much as the next gal, but when will this insanity end?

Will we start celebrating the day after Easter next year?

What are some of your favorite inspirational quotations?  I used to have one emailed to me every day.  It really helped re-focus me on the task/day at hand, keep my eyes on the goal, and helped drown out all the detractors.

I'll go first:

"The higher we soar, the smaller we appear to those who cannot fly." --Nietzsche

What are some of your favorites?

Do you watch this show? Do your daughters? What do you think about this?

One of the 14 girls who will compete on the new season of America’s Next Top Model – which returns to The CW on September 3 – is transgender. “My cards were dealt differently,” Isis, a 22-year-old former receptionist, tells Us Weekly exclusively in its new issue, on newsstands now. Hailing from Prince George’s County, Maryland, Isis identifies herself as “a woman born physically male.”

Will she be a role model? “I like to help people, but I’m here to follow my dreams,” she tells Us.The inclusion of Isis is being hailed by GLAAD president Neil Giuliano as “an unprecedented opportunity for a community that is underrepresented on television. “We applaud Tyra Banks and The CW for making this historic visibility of transgender people possible,” Giuliano said.

So as I sat on the beach on my days off with my mojito in hand, lazily thumbing through the latest issue of People magazine....I was jolted back to consciousness when I saw a full page spread featuring Hollywood's hottest starlets sporting....rolled jeans!!!  Why?!  I was hoping this trend would go the way of butterfly hair clips and Benneton sweatshirts with the shoulders cut out.

I suffered though (and successfully resisted) the skinny jean comeback.

But this---rolled jeans---I cannot stomach.

Where shall we protest?

Every year when the Miss Universe contest rolls around, I always ask myself....How can these pageants still exist?

Do you watch them? Do these beauty contests (male or female) have any relevance to us today? There is a Mr. Universe, after all.

Is life really just a great big beauty contest?

What's your take?

Hmmmm...do I file this blog under news or entertainment?

I'm going with entertainment.  You can probably discern my take from that.  Ha!

Ok.  Need your help.  Throwing a dinner party tonite and I need a new chicken marinade to try out! For grilling.  So tired of lemon pepper and lemon garlic I could spit!

Whatcha got up your sleeves?

Nothing too spicy or too off the wall.....I'd like these guests to come back!

Ha!

Have a great weekend,

Lauren

Guess you know times are tough worldwide when the British Royals are tightening their belts, too.  Prince Charles flew on a commercial airplane for his last trip to the states, and the Queen is forcing everyone at the palace to turn off the lights to cut down on the royal electric bill.

Think we might see some of the crown jewels on e-bay soon?

(I'll admit, I'm a royal watcher. My guilty pleasure.  So silly it's fun.  My cousins even attended the royal wedding of Prince Charles and the lovely late Princess Diana.)

Ta-Ta!

No hard news topic for you today...something fun.

Long....or short....which do you prefer?

As for myself, I can't decide...which is why my hair has been a medium length for the past decade or so!

If only I had Halle Berry's looks....I'd try to rock a cute short cut like she had in the early 90's. I think she looked best then.  I dream of all the time it would save me in the mornings.  Maybe someday...when I muster the guts.

Can anyone explain this physiological mystery to me  ...whereby women are always chilly, and men are always sweating in the same moment?

For example, although we love each other like family....the Fox 35 morning crew battles each and every morning about the thermostat in the studo. It's almost funny now. We sneak around during commerical breaks raising or lowering the thermostat.

Jim and Tom are always hot.

Heidi and I are always shivering.

Does this happen in your house?

How do you diplomatically broker the temperature war?

It's National Flip-Flop Day!  Woo-Hoo! Finally, an excuse to leave the high heels at home, gals.  Love that!

In honor of the 'holiday,' Tropical Smoothie Cafe is giving away free smoothies tomorrow! (Saturday, June 21st.)

They're partnering with Camp Sunshine (a camp for children with life-threatening illnesses) and offering the free smoothies to celebrate!

Flip-Flops and free smoothies....what better way to celebrate the official first day of summer?

Enjoy!

Have you heard the buzz that Dr. Phil and his wife Robyn are getting divorced?

Did a little digging on this one -- turns out -- not true.

Or, at least the couple is refuting the claims made by Globe magazine.

What are you doing?  I told you not to read this.

A test.  Simply a test.

:)

I knew you'd cave.

Why do you think people so often do things they are not supposed to?

***IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE YET AND YOU DON'T WANT ME TO SPOIL IT, STOP READING THIS BLOG NOW!***

For those of you that did see it, first let me say...I loved it.  Absolutely loved it.  I laughed, I cried, I loved it.

But I was, however, quite disappointed at the ending.

I don't think Carrie should have ended up with Mr. Big.

I know, I know. I might be the only gal in America who wasn't rooting for them.

I wanted the movie to end with her finding someone new.  I sort of feel the ending contradicted what the whole series was about....not compromising, being true to yourself....and FINDING A GUY WHO KNOWS WHAT HE WANTS, ISN'T AFRAID TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE, BE A REAL MAN,  AND MAKE UP HIS DA** MIND!

But maybe this opens the door for more "Sex" movies?  Because, after all, you know how those "Mr. Big's" are.  He WILL break her heart again.  Just a matter of time.
