A (Very) PROVOCATIVE THOUGHT EXPERIMENT ON GUNS A letter to the editor in the Philly Daily News:

ABOUT 90 percent of the people shot in the city last year were African-American. While figures are unavailable, it is assumed by most that close to 100 percent of the perpetrators of these shootings were African-American.

Almost all the firearms used in these shootings were obtained, possessed and carried illegally by those who perpetrated the shootings. If, as is constantly claimed, we MUST DO SOMETHING to stop this violence, then why not ban African-American residents of the city from owning handguns?

The answer is that that is patently unfair and discriminatory. To judge an entire group as a problem and punish all members of that group, irrespective of their individual actions, is unconscionable.

Yet, it's deemed perfectly acceptable to discriminate against one particular group - gun owners.

Let's just tell the truth. The instant Mayor Nutter gets the right to pass gun laws for Philly, it will become a practical impossibility to own a handgun or any other weapon the city deems "inappropriate."

I've done nothing wrong, but my rights are to be removed step-by-step because others - entirely outside the law - are using guns feloniously. How is this any less outrageous a suggestion than that black people shouldn't be allowed to have guns?

Good point, although, upon reading this my jaw hit the floor. Good thing it didn't crack with the tile floors and all.

Yeah I know EXACTLY what you mean. Your first reaction is to damn the entire thing then you think hey..............What is the difference.

I believe though that most people will take this as anti Black rather then the way it's meant.........ridicule of the proposed solution to violence

........the restriction of citizen's rights yes even Black citizens, through useless gun laws

Always the same fight , and always the other side refuses to accept the single most important fact on this subject “Gun laws” will only ever affect people who obey laws ! By their very nature criminals do not obey laws...so gun laws will never work.

Do you honestly believe that passing a law to keep anyone from legally possessing a gun is going to stop the illegal purchasing and/or ownership of guns? When are people going to understand that criminals are the people who break the laws as RNC08 pointed out.

Blacks or white victims, they are all dead people regardless. Why be so concerned about race in this matter? If it is all that important that a gun law for one particular race be proposed, then why not simply ban that race from being in the city? I'm sure that would stop all crime in the city...LOL

Thats sick Hawk ! True yes , funny yes but also sick ...LOL
Can't believe attractive young teachers are sleeping with their students...but what is even more shocking is that members of our government are actually convincing those boys that they are “victims” of something and should feel bad....

It really IS a Matter of perspective and NOT just with the boys either..100 years ago and back into history from there as a girl you'd be MARRIED by 14 or people thought there was something WRONG with you..

When it comes to crime,, like Poverty,, race has ALWAYS been a factor and SHOULD be mentioned..The Vast Majority of the Victims of these violent crimee are the minority races..

You're NOT doing them any favors by removing their ONLY line of defense in Neighborhoods where EVEN the police fear to tread..

...Tell me this : if a white man shot a cop down in cold blood and a white community refused to help law enforcement find the man responsible...how fast would they start throwing people in jail until someone cooperated ! But that is exactly the environment in every “black” community in this nation and not only do we tolerate it we must accept it ! Reverend Write has made it crystal clear (and Obama did not say it was not so!) that the “Black Church” is different from the rest of America and seeks different goals than those that the rest of this country wants/needs/supports .

Cold hard facts, statistics, and raw numbers do not lie. The bottom line is if you are a criminal, you may not carry a gun. If you are a law abiding citizen, you may carry a gun. (once you obtain the legal permits, of course) If 99% of the criminals happen to be Black, then that's just the way it is, Jack. If you happen to be the 1% that is White, why should you have to suffer the consequences of the other 99%?

Great post, this is a really good angle to use the next time someone tries to argue about gun laws with us. I'd just like to see someone try arguing against this logic.

JD

The people that argue with us can't even spell logic let alone make decisions based on it

It's all about how you feel

They actually would rather feel safe then be safe

Here’s ANOTHER one for you..

It is UNCONSTITUTIONAL to require a convicted felon to “turn in their guns”..Since it’s AGAINST the LAW for them to HAVE guns,, It amounts to Self Incrimmination..So..Whenever and wherever you see these programs going on where Guns are “Required “ to be turned in,, it CANNOT make THAT requirement of Convicted Felons…The ONLY guns that they’re getting “off the street” are those LEGALLY Owned..

Well I guess we should include the fact that gun registration laws do not apply to convicted felons either for the same self incrimmination aspect

I have a post up today that details this subject

Didnt you know...if you are white American in this country...you have no rights...just pay your taxes and be quiet. So our government can spend the way they see fit. And it certainly isnt looking good for middle white America

I'm a pretty normal guy. A conservative and a bit old fashioned. Ready to change my mind if presented with verifiable facts to justify doing so...............A U.S. Navy veteran of the Viet Nam Era ( No In-Country Service ) I find my mind tends toward practical Solutions. My reason for posting is to call attention to the things I think are important.I normally read between 7-9 news sources a day so I rarely will compose my own items preferring to take advantage of the enormous availability of public sources. If you do not care to read the LOOOOOOONG Posts then by all means don't do so . There's not much annoys me as much as an unsubstantiated accusation or an unverified claim.............. If your only argument consists of a pocket full of I wishes and a basket full of it ought to be's or If your strategy is to change the subject or make personal attacks because of your inability to argue the merits. Please do everyone a favor and sit down and shut up, or post to the entertainment blog where such tactics belong...................
...............I would urge you to remember that The politicians work for you......................
..... I believe that the campaign contribution system is nothing less then Legalized Bribery. It is after all, An elected Official accepting Cash from a citizen (although I must concede that every one of the politicians will swear to you that people do it expecting no payback. wink, wink, nod, nod) Good Governance from our employees will only be achieved when Politicians fear for their continued employment more than they lust after Campaign Contributions
