needs to do some investigating into their hourly workers! This morning for the first time in a week, I took my dogs over to Paw Park. This has become a morning ritual for me and several others. It's a chance for the humans to socialize while the dogs run free, chasing each other and expending all that pent up energy that accumulates from days cooped up inside weathering Fay.
This morning, we all got to stand outside the park while the city workers did some clean up. Nothing really major, some fallen branches, small ones I might add, and a lot of moss that got ripped from the old oak trees.
We were told when we arrived at 7:30, which is when the park opens that it would be an hour before the workers would be finished. Not good news to us, or the dogs, who were straining at their leashes for the gate.
Okay, being good citizens, we gathered outside the gates, waiting patiently for the work to be done. It soon became painfully obvious that was NOT going to happen any time soon. There were five workers standing around leaning on rakes or shovels, and no work was being was done. When one did actually use a rake, it was like watching a movie in slow motion.
But, we waited... and waited...and waited. At nine o'clock, we all were disgusted and not a little bit aggravated.
"Can we just come inside and let the dogs run?" asked one of our group.
"No, some of the guys are scared of the dogs." was the sullen reply.
And so we left. The dogs were voicing their objections, but some of us actually have jobs that we actually DO! If we worked the way those city workers did, I rather expect a pink slip would be forthcoming, but hey, that's our tax dollars at work. Aren't you just so proud ?

At least they didn't sit down and take naps like others do!

Instead of venting your spleen here, maybe you should write/email your Mayor/City Administrator?

Thats no different then the county and state road crews. With those you get 4 people standing around while one is working.

nobs -- the OP's objection was workers on the public payroll weren't earning their money, not that "poochie" didn't get its exercise.

Next time, please put your brain into gear before running your mouth?

This is the general attitude of the government employees everywhere. While a very few actually do their jobs and do it well, the overwhelming majority are lazy and not worth what they get. But knowing a just a teeny bit about government, you can complain, but it will fall on the same type of deaf ears that include the people who lean on shovels. Your mayor will not do anything, and just try and bring up the names of any employees and you will be silenced as it is not permissable to mention the names of the employees in question. It violates the terms of their employement agreement which can only be discussed in closed session. They call if confidential. It's NOT confidential, it is public KNOWLEDGE that they are losers. YES, losers, and we pay for them. But it's not just the people cleaning up the dog park, it extends into every area of public service in every city, county, state and at all levels of our federal government. It transcends race and gender. For some reason, the public is held in high disdain by an extremely unappreciative entitlement driven public workers who are not capable of accomplishing anything more than a nap and a donut.

You are so right about the workers. I call them unionized state or federal workers who don't have to work to get raises or do their job. I audited the state dept in another state and a new employee could have done better than the 20 + veterans. I say they should be held to standards, but hey, that requires work on the part of their Supervisor. Why does it take them so long to visit homes, sex offenders, etc. Most don't even know where they live. They are supposed to visit them once a month. lol

It's amusing how people still complain about county workers. It's like complaining about pain after a root canal...get over it.

I want to ask you UncleRob..you want Nobs to get the brain in gear before " running their mouth"...Hmmm how about you do the same when posting in your blog. Yeah, I read it and well..does the word racist mean anything to you?

Thought so.

shar -- the logic in your first sentence is so absurd I won't even try to argue it.

As far as your next sentence, I'm fully aware of the definition of the word. Care to explain what you're implying, or are you just going to hit and run?

Nob, you miss the point, and that point is the workers standing around doing squat and being paid for it. My dog can run in the back yard and this whole blog has squat to do with the dogs.
