We continue to watch Dolly closely ... it sits right over the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula (which is where Cancun is located).  While the Tropical Storm sits over land, it tends to produce friction and help tear the storm apart.  Dolly will stay intact enough to maintain Tropical characteristics.  In fact, Dolly is excpected to decrease in forward speed (right now it's moving NW at 15mph, with 50mph winds).  Usually a decrease in forward speed leads to an increase in wind speed.  Dolly could become a hurricane by Tuesday.

Right now models are in good agreement (keeping it south of us ... between Corpus Christi and northern Mexico).  This set up puts us on the rainy side of the system (the right, front quadrant) ... so look for better rain chances on Wed. & Thurs.

Dolly should be inland by Thursday afternoon.  We'll get back to normal by the weekend.

You'll want to stay up to date on this storm since it's so close to southeast Texas.  Check out our Weather Section on this website.  We have a hurricane toolbox, my tropical tracker, and live hurricane briefings at 11am and 4pm to help you stay safe!

We sure do need the rain! If this storm turns into a hurricane and turns in our direction, I'm going to be irritated. It just seems wrong to incur hurricane damage from a system named "Dolly".

"Hello, Dolly! Well hello, Dolly!" That song is going to bug me until this storm is no more. LOL!

If not already, the supplies of bottled water and packaged tuna at the grocery stores are going to show empty shelves soon. tsk tsk tsk.

Apparently people on the local news and weather here in the Houston area are either not from here or they are suffering from morbid fascination because when any disturbance arises in the Atlantic, it is like the news media intensifies the situation and to the point where they have people running from Houston like roaches like when we were threatened by "Rita"... the news media shares a lot of the blame and responsibility for the deaths that came about in that flurry of traffic where people were on the highway simply running for their lives!!! It is almost like the media wants a tragedy to happen resulting from a storm so that they can have a story and possibly gain an award in some egotistical merit... like the stupid guys that stand in a dangerous storm and be blown down by the wind and rain just to prove his/her self worth...its all phony!!! One other thing, most of the news that these so-called Reporters broadcast is simply tittle-tattle and idle talk about aimless malarkey...It is mostly outrageous!!! All we need to know about the weather is if the following days will be rain or shine and when there is a hurricane out in the Atlantic...we don't need any information on it... if its in the Gulf you may want to tell us where it is headed and if it bypasses Houston, then we don't have to worry... just be thankful and that's the end of it!!! Obviously most of those people that ran from from "Rita" were not from Houston either... We have had threats of hurricanes and we have had a very minimal amount of hurricanes in this area over the past 50 years so why does the media go

to extreme trying to frighten and scare people away from their dwelling here in the CITY of Houston... shoreline property owners or dwellers would be the most likely evacuees... I stayed in my home with "Rita" and had no plans of running because the media said so!!! I stayed up all night with "Alicia" and kept the front door opened all night so that I could see the winds, rains, lightning and so forth... I know that certain weather conditions can harm people but the news media just goes to EXTREME!!! Please stop it!!! Are reporters so desperate for jobs that they will exaggerate and embelish a story where it creates terror amonsgt the populace of Houston just for notariety?? Maybe Houston excites some of you people that have moved here but real Houstonians don't listen to your spurious admonitions where you attempt to lead us into panic!! If you are going to reside here, then you should come to study and know the weather history of Houston!!!! That includes these so-called emergency centers that have been implemented as a waste of tax-payers funds. If I heard the word "Dolly" in the past few days one time, then I have heard it a thousand times... we are sick of it and the WASTE!!!

missbettie: I lost my Pasadena apartment to Alicia. Many of my Deer Park neighbors and Houston friends flooded out in TS Alison. Rita was heading straight toward Galveston before it took a turn and tore up Beaumont/Port Arthur, on its way up into NW Louisiana (exactly where we fled to). I think anytime there is a storm in the Gulf, we have a right to know about it and the media has a duty to give us as much information as possible about it. The media didn't order the Rita evacuations. Ignorance of a storm or preparations is no longer an excuse with the advanced radar systems in place. Certainly any storm that is headed toward the Texas Gulf Coast is news worthy, if nothing else than to see where our tax dollars are going to be sent and to see where the people that will relocated here come from when they lose their homes. I'm not just interested in my city, I'm interested in my state.

And yes, I am a native of the Greater Houston Area. I have relatives in Corpus and I have often vacationed at S. Padre Island and Port Aransas. I fled from a Corpus visit during Allen. I'm interested in what this storm does, and what we can learn from the reaction to it.

To maintain your "me me me and what's important to me" attitude, you might avoid the news for the next few days, lest it melt your eyes or deter your attention from yourself. It kind of looks like you're the only one around here in a panic.
