You may have heard that a Florida court ruled this past week that Amendment Five is too vague.  It's a ballot question for voters to consider in the November election.  Some call it the "tax swap' amendment, but a judge said it was too vague.

I voted this week on a Sanford ballot question that proposed a change to the city charter.  The question did not even say what you are voting on- no reference at all to the actual issues at stake.  It just referred to section numbers of the Sanford charter.  The voter has no clue what they are voting on or even what the topic is.  It was stunning to me.

What do you think about vague language on ballot questions?  Do politicians purposely write the questions vaguely to confuse you?  Blog it here.

How do you think they get elected? The vast majority of politians are liars and will do anything to deceive the voters in their own favor.

Did you receive a sample ballot by mail in the weeks prior to the election, Keith? I've always received one and it alieviates the problem you mentioned by giving a voter time to research an item before voting. As for the vague language, that doesnt really matter. Hell, most of the Einsteins here in Florida can't understand anything without pictures...

Most ballot questions these days are crafted to be vague. Even after reading Amendment 5 several times, I must admit it is very confusing. I was concerned when we (voters) changed the rules making it necessary to get 60% to change the constitution, but now think it might be a blessing.

Uhh, what did ambiguous ballot language have to do with Bush being elected? Getting a little off topic to get in another hatebush shot? As for the ballot, I distinctly remember having a very clear choice of candidates, no gobblydegook, no nonsense, just the names and parties of the candidates, nothing too difficult for someone who can read in English.
When, oh when, will the lib nutcases get over it? Bush is done, over, finit, time to move on to the B. Hussein Obama reign.
Now- back to our discussion on cunningly crafted ballot language.

(nieve?)

To bad you did not include the actual language of the ballot amendment....I love reading this stuff. And to answer your question : Do legislators deliberately write amendments that are to confusing for voters to understand , the answer is YES ! ...in 04 I was part of the team that created TV adds for a land grab amendment in Tampa and we had adds running while the Power Co Op that was drafting the “bill” was still working on its language , they where not a bit shy in private about working out the language to trick the population of Tampa into voting away their right to vote on this subject !
