Florida has had a long running debate over what we should teach our young people at school, when it comes to sex.  Some say we should only teach abstinence to young people.  Others say we should teach safe sex and the use of contraception.

The ACLU will move this week to push the Volusia County School District to teach safe sex and contraception instead of abstinence.  What do you think?  Blog it here.

The schools should teach NEITHER!!! It's NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS how and what I teach my child about sex, be it safe sex or abstinence!!!

It does NOT BELONG in PUBLIC SCHOOLS!!! If a family believes in abstenance for their children, the schools should NOT be teaching them about safe sex!!

Maybe teaching it gets those women teachers so excited, that's the reason they are having sex with their students!!! .

They should teach both. Teach abstinence first but also teach safe sex for the ones who will have sex anyway

Schools have been teaching sex education for years, but since some parents have been whinning about what is taught some schools stopped. Well you whinning geniouses the teen pregnancy rate went up because you whinning parents didnt do your job. Just like the corporal punishment subject. The kids who were bad and spanked at school whinned and cried so much they got it stopped and now what happened, no disclipine in schools. Great job wannabe parants.

Back when I went to school, sex education was NOT taught, and we didn't have the rate of teen preganancy we have today!! 14 yr olds taking their kids to school with them....that's SINCE sex ed has been taught in schools!

When you were in school most girls married right after school and started having kids.

The 14 years olds were marrying their second cousins.

Ignorance is bliss to the ignorant.

Not teaching kids about std's and pregnancy prevention is the height of ignorance.

My son is starting High School this year. He was able to take a summer school class for credit this summer. The 1st day he came home & said that the teacher had talked about safe sex. I was furious....at first. My initial reaction was *that is my job*. Then, I thought about it, in a perfect world, all parents are teaching their kids about safe sex & advocating abstinence. Since this is reality & not a fairy tale, I realized that some of the kids will never hear anything from their parents on sex.

So, I grabbed this opportunity to open the discussion with my son. Explaining our family's beliefs & the facts.....

I think it today's culture the school must teach sex ed......because some parents just won't do their job.

It all begins with the parents. I have no problem with a school teaching sex ed. Along with that territory comes safe sex and abstinence. I do wish that the schools could teach moral behavior with that. I pray parents are teaching it at home.
Religion pays a key part in moral behavior. Saving yourself for the one person you'll share "forever" with in Holy matrimony. In a perfect world morals would be taught in sex ed class.
I will be teaching my daughter the importance of dressing fashionably but MODESTLY. I'll be teaching her that she's beautiful inside and out. God created her for his purpose. Along with that message I'll be teaching moral behavior. Religion pays a key part in guiding our youth in moral behavior.
