Iraq's prime minister says U.S. troops should leave his country "as soon as possible." And in an interview with a German magazine, Nouri al-Maliki says Barack Obama's suggestion of 16 months is "the right timeframe." But al-Maliki also says he's not seeking to endorse Obama.

How soon do you think American troops should leave Iraq or should there be no timetable for withdrawal?  Blog it here.

As soon as the job is done and they can take care of their own business. Not a day sooner. As for Obama, he has no clue at all and is only saying what the puppetier is telling him to say.

If that is the way they want it.....tomorrow would be a good day to start...and then watch the Iraqi PM start backpedaling on his comment to the magazine. What is the difference in 1 month or 18 months? Bring our troops home now if they aren't appreciated and the dufus Iraqi police think they can handle the massacre that will ensue.

Bush should jump on this and get the troops back before the election with a ticker tap parade and bursting Obama's bubble. TO see a rookie and inexperienced guy in the same room as our Generals makes me sick.

Not one more drop of American Blood should be shed there. DON'T PLAY POLITICS WITH OUR SOLDIERS LIMBS AND LIVES! Malaki wants us out in 18 months.....phooey...bring them home NOW!

If they feel things are where needed to be and we are just hanging around there now then, is yesterday too soon? We need to better secure our borders and keep a watchful eye on possible enemies here at home!

Hey RandyLoo And TruthGuys, Finally Something I Can Agree On You Guys With !! Truth Is Iraq Wouldn't Be Able To Handle Their Country ! And Violence Has Went Down Since From When I Was There, We Were Getting Mortarted (spelling) At Least 2x Daily While I Was Deployed Camp Liberty / Camp Victory with 3rd Infantry Division. Close Comrades Tell Me Its Alot Calmer Now. (I don't listen to the media) Also, President Bush Made One Of His Most Poor Foreign Policy Decisions In Dismembering The Iraqi Army, Clearly Sending A Signal He Wanted U.S. Troops To Stay In Iraq For A Long Period Of Time. I Understand Why They Wouldn't Want Us There Forever, Because I Was There, I Walked The Streets Of Baghdad, Fallejuah, And I Took Innocent Lives, So If I Were Them, To A Certain Extinct I Would Consider Us An "Enemy." You've Also Have To Look At It From A Tax-Payer Point Of View, Why Are We Financing A War In One Of The Richest Countries In The World... Shouldn't The Administration Finally Tell The Truth And Admit We Went There For Oil, And Start Recieving Some Revenues ? The Focus Is In Afghanistan, But The Average American Isn't Educated Enough To Realize This, Thats Why They Were Fooled Into Going Into Iraq In The First Place. We Are in A Recession, We Are Hurting, Look At The Unemployment Rates, Look At The Stock Market, Look At The Foreclosure Rates... This Is Why I Am Not Voting McCain, Because He Is Bush 3.0. I Can't Help But Feel Sorry For The United States, And May God Bless Us All If McCain Is Elected.

While I've always been against a timetable for withdrawel (giving the insurgents a date to look forward to), it's a different matter if the Iraqi prime minister himself suggests one. This could be seen as the perfect opportunity for a way out.

It would make America happy, as our troops would finally be able to pull out. It would also demonstrate to the Iraqis that we meant what we said when we stated that we never intended to permanently occupy Iraq. Even if things did get worse after we left, we could at least say "well, you asked us to leave, so..."

It would make the Iraqi citizens happy (that is, if the Iraqi military and police could actually deal with the insurgents themselves), as they will no longer can complain about the "occupiers".

It would make our politicians on both sides of the fence happy. The Conservatives, because they can safely say that their job was finished, and that we didn't retreat. The Liberals, so they can smirk and say "See? We told you we could force them out! We told you we couldn't win! Isn't Obama wonderful?"

Everybody's happy.

Yes let us start bringing the troops home from the war...but should we not go in a first come first serve basis , that would mean the troops who are NOT WANTED in Germany and Japan and the Philippians should come home 40 years before those in Iraq !
And UCF you have just said a number of disturbing things ...if you spent your time killing innocent people and not combatants in Iraq then you must turn yourself in to authority for prosecution! ...good thing you are just pretending to have been a part of the military because if you where telling the truth you would be facing a JAG and then an Iraqi court ...

At least a Vet who actually served in Iraq, instead of some of the "pretend" ones.

You are 100% right UCF. McCain has tied himself to Dumbo's star and it is falling fast.

Yellowdog , how do you know this is a vet that actually served. You don't. Heck, I served in WWII, I was a sniper. I could have shot Hitler right betwixt the eyes but Patton wouldn't hear of it! Yeah right! Any one can fib on these blogs. You would be the first to say "everyone on here is pretend" and words mean nothing. Didn't I hear you say that just a few days ago?

Setting a definitive timetable and announcing it to the enemy is as bright as telling the burglars who are waiting in your driveway to rob your home that you leave for work at 9 am everyday and that your alarm system is not activated.

When Iraq says it is ready and able to defend itself, that's when the troops should leave.
Neither McCain nor Obama would want to be the presidents that ordered the troops back in.

Comparing apples to oranges again I must say that a tour of duty in Iraq is much different than a tour in Germany, and Japan. I don't know much about the "Philippians," but weren't they mentioned in the Bible? LOL

I am fairly certain that George II is good for his word that he will listen to the Iraq elected officials and withdraw in accordance with their wishes and also in a manner that ensures the safety of our troups.

There is also the issue of the UN mandate expiring by years end. George I paid attention to the UN and so the probability is that the rebellious George II will not.......another mistake to be sure.

But perhaps after the withdrawal we will have enough troops to properly bring the Afghanistan conflict to an end. Interesting that we looked the other way while the poppies were replanted and the heroin from them has turned out to be a primary funding source for the Taliban according to recent reports.

The UN Security Council will make this decision on or before August 11, 2008. Be a smart American and realize that The President of The United States does not control the Coalition Forces. Refer to the Riga Summit of 2006 for further questions on who controls NATO forces.

Well, all of our troops are never going to leave there - it's too convenient and strategic a location.

But the mainstay of them will be out over the next year.

Thank GOD that we never listened to Barack Obama, who wanted us to surrender.

If you vote Democrat, remember, you vote for the people who did everything they could to lose this war, and who wanted that for an imagined political gain

If they do withdraw our troops from Iraq, they will probably only send them to Iran.
Has anyone here heard anything else about the 400 million Bush was given for covert opps. in Iran??? Heard about it once on CNN about 2 or 3 weeks ago (right before Iran launched the test missles) and nothing else has surfaced since...

Apples and oranges shadows ? I will admit that I never served in Japan but I did do bomb disposal* and guard duty in Germany in 79/80/81 and I think that the number of attacks and protests we had at that time can be compared to public sentiment in Iraq today.
Now that I think of it most of the “devises” where crude IED's and did not detonate (thank god) but the youth of Germany did make and use bombs to protest our presence there...

...and yes the Philippines is our “secret war” we lose soldiers there every year and it NEVER gets put on TV . What I find interesting is who we are fighting in that “theater” , if it was common knowledge that we have been in a pitched battle with dedicated Islamic extremist in that country for more than 40 years would it affect the opinion of the average American on our stand in the WOT ?

UCF,YOUR A EDUCATED PERSON???, THEN YOU NO THAT THE PRES. DIDN'T MAKE THE FINAL DECISON TO GO INTO IRAQ OUR UNEDUCATED CONGRESS HELPED.
GOING INTO IRAQ WAS BECAUSE SADDAM HAD WMD OR HE WAS GOING BUILD AND USE WMD.
WILL AFEW DAYS AGO REPORTED BY THE AP THAT 550 METRIC TONS OF "YELLOWCAKE" (URANIUM) WAS FOUND.
THE TROOPS SHOULD STAY UNTIL THE JOB IS FINISHED.
BUT OBAMA SAYS TROOPS BEING PULLED SHOULD BE SENT TO AFGHANISTAN.
IF YOU KILLED CIVILANS AND THEY WEREN'T COMBATANTS I'M SURE THEY WILL COME FOR YOU SOON.
