This is Mark Dean Schwab's day of reckoning.  This day marks exactly sixteen years to the day since Schwab was sentenced to death row for kidnapping, raping and strangling eleven year old Junny Rios- Martinez back in April of 1991.

It's about 10:30 AM right now and we are driving up to the Florida State Prison to witness the execution and to cover it.

Almost everyone who has blogged on this topic agrees Schwab deserves the death penalty and that it should have happened a long time ago.  What do you think?  Blog it here.

Just think how much tax dollars would have been saved if they only would have carried out the sentance instead of prolonging it because of the greed of lawyers! The same goes with anyone else who sits in the wing of DEATH ROW!

It's a little bit after 3 PM now and things are hectic in Starke. The State Attorney General's office tells us Schwab is trying to switch lawyers at the last minute, to win a new appeal before the U.S.Supreme Court. The prison staff is getting ready for 6 PM. The stafff tells us Schwab is quiet and cooperative. He met with his mom and aunt, and now he's meeting with a minister.

Things have been so busy up here, that I have not had much time this afternoon to reflect upon the execution I am going to witness. We will keep you posted throughout the night at MyFoxOrlando.com and thanks for your comments.

I think Juni's family should get one hour with Schwab and if he's still alive then put a needle in his arm! I agree for the above blogger I can't believe we have been forced as taxpayers to pay for this guys last sixteen years here. I hope he has sincerely repented before six o'clock tonight! And I truly hope for Juni's family that they can have some sort of closure, and that this is not interupted again by someones lame excuse for Schwabs rights. He has no rights, he took away that boys rights, he shouldn't have had the mercy he's gotten till now. This is why there is so much violence in the world today because when these sickos are killing, and torturing our loved ones, they know we'll give them more rights than they gave their victims! D.

I AM TOTALLY AGAINST THIS EXECUTION!!

It is much too good for him!! Release him into general population in the prison. They know how to take care of people that rape and kill innocent children!!

I agree with dburr the family of Junny should have a say to the WRETCH. Good , bad, whatever. the justice system is so broken. if they are put on death row they should have 5 years to try to get their butts out of the sling. After that bye, bye. The cost would go down. Prison is not a camp to be enjoyed. It should not be made such but sadly it has become that. You see these monkeys smiling and waving to the cameras because they know that they will have many more years on the state to thumb their noses at the rest of the world. I have seen several executions in my travels and I know one thing I will never do anything to put myself in that situation. It is one Hell of a deturrant to see something like that. Be strong my friend and be objective. Do not let your emotions come into play until after it is all said and done. Your are a trooper in the journalistic trenches. Look forward to your report at 10 pm.

The one problem with our justice system is that it is not swift. I understand that some innocent people are in prison, but when you have concrete evidence and DNA proof the perpetrator committed the crime, the sentece should be carried out right away.

I don't think he should even be allowed to appeal ever or now. His victim did not get the chances to appeal against the cruel actions he withstood and died from. Schwab is a coward!!!

Just to add to 4alljustice' comment acording to news reports I've heard he admitted to it 5 days later when they found him in Ohio! So, absolutely if there is solid proof no more than five years, and to be perfectly honestly than is gracious. I just wish his life could be exchanged for Juni's!

hopefully this will give Juni's family some closure

As far as Schwab goes, he's getting off way to easy, he should have his life taken as he took poor Juni's, now that would be justice. he's dragged this on for way too long

he has had 17 years to make his peace with God, I do hope he used that time wisely to prepare himself to meet his maker.

This was a test for the State of Florida and since this finally took place, it is said it will open the floods gates to future executions, so those who are on death row should be shaking in their boots about now.

I agree with many that this should have taken place a long time ago. I wonder what would happen if the families were able to choose the penalties of those convicted and be able to see it through as it should be. After this long, a new lawyer was requested? How sad is that? That goes to show that after many years of sitting there to reflect what he had done, it still had no affect on his conscience. Even though it may not have been enough, the first thing that should have come out of his mouth was to ask for forgiveness from the family and state that he was getting what he deserved for robbing that family of their child! We all know he is getting what he deserves, but at the same time, as reporters, it couldn't have been easy to witness this. But thank you for brining us the news whether it's good or bad.

I'll bet the demons from hell were there to take him DOWN! Strike tree, you're out, you POS! The 1st little boy he molested didn't "tell" until tears later, he did 5 years for the 2nd one he raped, and he killed the 3rd one, to be sure he couldn't tell. Thank God his saga is over! Maybe now, the Martinez family can finally have some peace! May the LORD be with THEM!

I guess we have to wait for Fox news at 10. Hope you have video. I would love to see it.

My heart goes out to to the Martinez family. That POS got off entirely too easy. Back in 2006, theytried to say that death by electric chair was inhumane. What happened to Juni was inhumane. I believe that convicted murderers, rapists etc should not have any rights. This Justice system is so screwed up. It's a shame that crimminals have more rights than the victims and their family. Schwab sat there and said " you won't kill me that easy". Smirking during his appeals to the Surpreme Court. I guarantee that had this happened to a family member of the surpreme court, Schwab wouldn't have served 3 years before being executed. This injustice went on for 17 years before the Martinez family got there justice. An innocent boy violently taken from his family. Where's justice in that? The Martinez family remain in my prayers and I pray that Schwabs death can give them some sort of solice. May GOD be with you all.

My best friend is his step-sister. I got to see first hand what the family went through during this ordeal. He didn't deserve to die 'peacefully' after what he did. He should of never been released after his first 'life in prison' sentence (he did this about 1 month after being released). I'm glad it's finally over and Junny finally got his justice. The protestors need to sit and think before waving signs and ringing bells at people. Let some sicko kill a person you love and see how you feel after that.
