A horrific dog attack in Titusville to tell you about.  A 74 year old woman was attacked by two of her three dogs Thursday in her Titusville home.  The woman died.  Her son discovered her body in the home when he returned from work.

Police say the two dogs involved in the attack could be put down as soon as this weekend.  Police believe this could be the first time in Brevard County history that a dog owner was killed by its own pets.

What do you think about this awful attack?  Have you heard of fatal dog attacks like this?  Blog your thoughts here.

For one, more information would be nice.
Horrific is what i think about it. But hard to say, because all facts are not present.
condolences to her family.

well some people would ask a question regarding what kind of dogs this woman had and if they were raised in a mean or degrading house hold that would cause the dogs to attack

i just read the story on page 1 ..again so few details, have to say i agree with you Amberley....maybe she had a heart attack or stroke and the dogs freaked out, trying to help but winding up mauling her.

The only time I have ever heard of something like this is when someone purposely put gun powder in the dogs food, left, and came back home to an X wife! They should check deeper into this because usually this is very, very rare in deed!

Before they put the dog down I wonder if it could be used to handle the justice deserved for the guard killer and the ones that kicked the other dog to death

If these dogs were so fercosious, why did a 74yr old lady have them and wasn't her family concerned that she couldn't even keep them in the same room togethor? THey need to check the dogs befor they put them down........ Those breeds are not known for such hostility. SOmething is fishy.......

I read on another site one was a Lab mix and the other an Australian Shepherd mix. Apparently the two dogs have fought with the cocker spaniel according to the neighbors. If the dog's were fighting with the cocker then it is very possible they attacked her because she was interfering with their "kill" on the spaniel. But then why is the spaniel still alive?
Most cases you see of an owner getting attacked is because they break up their own dog's fighting, not thinking that the dog will turn around and bite them. Happens all the time, how much is it reported? Not so much.

Why do they keep leading this story with, "They say a dog is man's best friend, but that isn't the case today." Hello??? The dog didn't attack a man. Nice try though.

This is horrific, I think it goes to show just how dangerous any animal can be. I have a cat that I was holding recently and thunder went off, he gouged me a through my shirt about a half inch deep in my chest. Almost to the bone. Even the smallest animal can do some major damage and they should be treated with respect.

I think that if the dog's were fighting they should have been separated. I learned the hard way not to get in between two fighting dogs. A nice bite on the wrist and a few shots later taught me to get my paint pellet gun instead. The hose works too.

This lady took a risk anyhow because she had too many dogs in the household for her to handle! She took her own risk, so it isn't the dogs fault...it is their nature! Putting too many dogs together like that by your self anyway is nothing but asking for trouble!

What I would like to know is if all those dogs were hers or also her sons? It seems to me that an elderly person wouldn't want to care for any more then one or two. There must be something more to this story. It can't be that simple! Certain things don't add up.

well. finally more info. They say there was already issues with the bigger dogs..and when people came over they had to put the animals away. And they didnt like the cocker spaniel.

I know we all love our animals, and never want to give them up...but when issues arise like this, someone needs to use sound judgement. The woman was to old and fragile to handle large aggressive dogs. And the son should have known better.
When i was a child my family adopted a Malamute, it did not like my baby sister and would growl and snap at her....My father returned the dog ASAP, and found a more suitible dog for the family.
when i got my female pit, as an adult, there were some issues in the beginning...she was trying to be Alpha, when i already had an Alpha in the home. So there were a couple of spats...that we broke up immediately, and let BOTH dogs KNOW we the parents were the ALPHAS, now the two get along wonderfully, to the point they protect each other. But I am aware of the nature of a pit, and always on guard for triggers they may set them off. My animals are socialized, very spoiled, and very loving. People need to be responsable, with their animals.
Such a senseless death, and so very sad.

That's similar to what Roy Horn (of Siegfried and Roy) said after their tiger mauled him. I didn't buy that story, and I don't think this is the case with the dogs either.

This is one of the reasons I don't own animals. Never trust an animal you can't overpower. You never know when they'll revert back to their "wild" sides.

There is not enough information to say, we can all guess, but none of us were there and I don't believe we will ever know for sure.

People must learn how to introduce dog the right way, ever dog owner should be required to go to DOG TRAINING CLASSES, Dogs learn to Bond, you both learn to communicate and the dog learns you are the MASTER. I see these types of problems everyday, not to this degree, but it is NO SURPRISE to me..

Animals that are particularly close to their masters can sense when something is amiss {healthwise}. They are animals, and who knows maybe they also sense loss of a loved one. I dont know im not an animal psychologist. But I would not dismiss it. it can be possible.
Rott
I know you are a trainer, and know the importance of being the MASTER. And also the importance of people knowing the BRED nature of the animal. Its all about being informed...and knowing "triggers". Dogs also need to be socialized, no matter what breed. They need to be exposed to different scents, and environments.

Bottom line...its a sad story, and a real shame, but the family had issues with the dogs and should have taken action before this all went down. Now actions have been taken ..but oh so late.

We can control many things in life but NATURE will always be out of our hands. We can't control Hurricanes, lightening,Tornadoes, or ANY act of nature...but that's why we have educated people (LIKE on FOX) to keep us informed. Knowledge is our only hope. The same holds true with ANY animal GOD created...he created them with instincts...primal instincts...that we as humans will never control. What turns a perfectly sweet, well respected person into a serial killer...humans are unpredictable...just like all things in nature.
I am saddened by the news and my heart goes out to her loved ones. I live everyday knowing that my animals could do me some real harm or even one day take my life...but still believe they are a part of my family.

There are two important facts here;

1.) The two breeds that they list is Lab & Austrailian Sheperd.. (both are docile breeds).

2.) It was stated; the dogs hated each other. (maybe the two dogs where fighting and the woman tried to break them up. But resulted in the dogs turning on her in the heat of the moment).
