Happy Independence Day everyone. I hope you're having a great holiday weekend.  I am proud to be an American, like you are.  I think today is a good time to ask what can each of us do to make America better?

What will you do in the next year to make America better so our children will still be proud of the country we leave them?  Blog it here.

This is Mark Dean Schwab's day of reckoning.  This day marks exactly sixteen years to the day since Schwab was sentenced to death row for kidnapping, raping and strangling eleven year old Junny Rios- Martinez back in April of 1991.

It's about 10:30 AM right now and we are driving up to the Florida State Prison to witness the execution and to cover it.

Almost everyone who has blogged on this topic agrees Schwab deserves the death penalty and that it should have happened a long time ago.  What do you think?  Blog it here.

I am planning to witness the execution of Mark Dean Schwab Tuesday afternoon.  It's nothing I am excited to do.  I don't think watching the life fade out of someone is something to celebrate.  It is a somber and sobering assignment that I accept.  I think it's important that journalists witness an execution like this so we can tell people exactly how justice was carried out for such a heinous crime.

What do you think about the execution of Mark Dean Schwab.  Do you think journalists should witness the execution?  What do you think about the family of Junny Rios-Martinez having to wait seventeen years to get justice?  Blog your thoughts here.

John McCain met Sunday with evangelist Billy Graham and his son, Franklin, at the family's mountaintop retreat. The Republican presidential candidate is actively courting religious voters and conservatives.  He visited privately with the Grahams at their home in western North Carolina.

"We had a very excellent conversation. I appreciated the opportunity to visit with them," McCain said after the 45-minute meeting. McCain's visit to North Carolina was his first sit-down with Billy Graham, 89, and with Franklin Graham.

Do you think John McCain should do more to win the support of religious voters and conservatives, who have had long running questions about him?  Is he playing his cards right with these two groups?  Blog it here.

Pakistan says its offensive against extremists near the Afghan border has destroyed a number of their bases. Officials say troops have met little resistance. The Taliban says it's suspending efforts to reach peace deals and is vowing to retaliate.

A few days ago, Taliban backers executed two men accused of helping the United States with air raids.  The large crowd cheered the Taliban message and the executions.  What would you do with the war in Afghanistan as the Taliban continues efforts to regroup in the southern part of the country?  Blog it here.

My church said farewell to our pastor today.  He had been with us for six years during a 23 year career.  Pastor Ben is a good priest and a dedicated clergyman.  He got our church very involved in helping the poor in Central Florida and in taking care of family members of people who worship with us.

Do you have a favorite pastor or clergy member you'd like to call attention to?  Blog it here.

I saw The Love Guru this week. It made me laugh a lot.  Great one liners and situtational comedy.  There was a lot of silliness that was just fun.

Did you see it?  Will you blog it?

A horrific dog attack in Titusville to tell you about.  A 74 year old woman was attacked by two of her three dogs Thursday in her Titusville home.  The woman died.  Her son discovered her body in the home when he returned from work.

Police say the two dogs involved in the attack could be put down as soon as this weekend.  Police believe this could be the first time in Brevard County history that a dog owner was killed by its own pets.

What do you think about this awful attack?  Have you heard of fatal dog attacks like this?  Blog your thoughts here.

As our country ages, so does the infrastructure.  Things like buildings, bridges, even cemeteries are getting old and in some cases, falling apart.  Cocoa City Council takes up a tough issue Tuesday night.

Should the city spend tax dollars to restore an historic cemetery that is showing its age.  Some graves have been disturbed by tree roots and other grave sites are broken or exposed.  Is it up to the city to pay to restore the cemetery or should local churches step in?  Blog your thoughts here.

I'm working on a story about a dog that attacked a child in Lake County.  It was the child's grandmother's dog, and the boy and dog had never had any problems before.

The dog bit the boy on the forehead and cheeks.  It is being held for observation at the Lake County Animal Services building.  The dog is a chow- golden lab mix.

What is your advice to others on protecting children againts dog attacks and reducing the risk that your dog might bite someone?  Share your advice and experiences in this blog.

Do you know anyone doing missionary work?  We had a visit in church today from a missionary priest.  He's been working almost twenty years in China to spread Christianity in the Szechuan province.  He explained that the country is still mostly an atheist country.

The missionary priest explained that when he talked to students at the university about Christianity, they were fascinated by it and hungry for it.  This mission to China has made a big difference over the last twenty years.

Fox News continues to talk to potential Vice Presidential running mates.  Today Former Sen. Tom Daschle of South Dakota was on "Fox News Sunday."

He told  the host, "I'm not seeking the vice presidency. I've not talked to Barack about it. I don't expect to be asked. And I have no interest."

Former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge is a McCain supporter.  He also appeared on Fox News Sunday. He talked about what he'd do if Senator McCain asked him to run with him.  "If he asks me, we'll have a private conversation and we'll decide whether or not we ought to tell you what we said. I appreciate the question. I think it's very important, and I think the senator agrees with me, it's a very important choice for both parties."

Why do you think politicians are so coy when they are asked if they want to be Vice President?  Blog it here.

"Get Smart," the big screen update of the 1960s spy sitcom, raked in over 39 million dollars to debut as the number one weekend movie. Mike Myers' widely panned "The Love Guru," took just 14 million dollars, good for a fourth place debut.

Which one will you see first?  I will go see both because I think they'll both be really funny.  Blog your favorite summer flicks with us right here.

Another female suicide bomber struck in Iraq, killing at least 15 people and wounded another 40 in Baqouba today.

Last year only eight females launched suicide attacks. This year there have already been at least 21 such attacks.

What do you make of women wanting to blow themselves up for their religious beliefs along with the men?  Blog it here.

Police in Lowell, Massachusetts, are looking for an 8-foot-tall green man wearing ripped purple pants and missing his feet.

They say a promotional statue for the movie "The Incredible Hulk" is probably in some kid's bedroom after it was stolen from in front of a theater.  Why?  Blog it here.
