Attn: Blues Mgt.
I have been a loyal Blues fan
since childhood. I am a Democrat and a union member.
I have spent several thousand
of my hard earned dollars over the years on tickets, merchandise and
concessions. I always attend many games each season and was a season ticket for
many years until economic conditions prevented me from affording such.
Your inviting Sarah Palin to
drop the puck at this evening’s game shows just how out of touch the Blues
organization really is with it’s fan base.
Why you would choose sides in
a political race is beyond me? One can only come to the conclusion that Blues
Mgt. Supports the McCain campaign and couldn’t care less about how Blues fans
would feel about this.
I find it sad and disturbing
that you do not realize the majority of Blues fans are hard working, middle
class, blue collar, DEMOCRATS!
When Palin steps out on the
ice and you hear all the boo’s tonight maybe you’ll realize the error you’ve
made. Unfortunately by then it will be too late for you to reclaim the many
fans you will have alienated by allowing this.
I have already purchased
tickets for several upcoming games this season, including this evening’s. Sarah
Palin’s appearance has forced me to decide that I will not be attending any
more Blues games in the future, I will no longer purchase any Blues
merchandise, nor will I ever attend any other events at Scottrade. I will
encourage everyone I know to BOYCOTT the Blues and Scottrade center, and
encourage my union and other local union halls to drop their MANY season
tickets purchased each year.
My convictions as a patriot
and a Democrat can not, in good conscience, allow me to patronize an
organization that supports a political agenda that will lead to the ruin of
this great country.
So, congratulations on
dividing your fans, turning the great game of hockey into a political circus,
and on the loss of revenue that this decision will surely cause.
I am becoming more and more deeply concerned about the
American people's gullibility.
Day after day I get forwarded misleading and pointless e-mail's concerning all
sorts of topics.
Today it was a supposed quote from Barack Obama, again related to a picture of
him and other candidates standing in front of the American flag during the
singing of our National Anthem. It shows Obama standing with his hands folded
in front of him while the other's have their right hand placed over their
heart.
For the record; the photograph in question has been proven authentic and was
taken on September 16, 2007, in Iowa
at a function for Senator Tom Harkin. Yes, it was during the singing of our
National Anthem.
I'm not going to link any sources of this material or the
picture. If you're reading this on the internet you should be capable of
looking and FACT CHECKING for yourself and I'm sure most have seen it anyway,
along with the lies that came with it to your inbox. I will say that the web site Snopes.com has consistantly been used as a deceptive source for most.
I've been getting this email, in different forms, for
over a year now.
It first started with an
outright lie stating this was taken during the Pledge of Allegiance.
Once that was proven false, it was then converted to; 'he won't place his hand
over his heart for the Anthem'.
Today it was the same picture but now it came with this
phony quote circulating about it. I've done everything I can to find a credible
source linking Obama to this quote and it just doesn't exist.
I hate to reprint it, as surly someone will clip it and disseminate further
lies with it, but here it is:
'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived
as taking
sides,' Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the
American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a
war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should
be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like
the song
'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I
might
salute it.' I don't want to be perceived as taking sides'
First of all, the quote is not genuine. It is, from my understanding and
RESEARCH, an attempt at humor by a Time magazine columnist.
His comments were then mutated and misleadingly attributed to Obama.
Adding even further insult, it is claimed that it was originally forwarded by a
retired USAF Lieutenant General; I suppose to make it appear more credible. The
Lt. Gen. in question has vehemently denied sending it at all!
It has since spread like wildfire through our inboxes.
This is not news to most people and I'm not interested in debating the politics
of the picture or Obama's patriotism.
It isn't an issue of politics, it's about the fact that we have been reduced
to note passing, rumour spreading children!
What does a total lack of interest in facts and our willingness to spread outright
lies say about us as American's?
We are a country currently at war in two theatres, we have serious problems
regarding poverty and racial issues, crime committed by youths is skyrocketing,
our unprecedented debt will burden the next several generations to come, our
economy is in serious trouble, our politicians have been purchased by
corporations and rather than debate REAL issues we are too busy discussing
Hollywood actresses and spreading outright lies and mindless drivel via email.
The next time you reach for the forward button, think of your 3rd grade teacher
smacking your hand and reading your "little note" in front of the class.
Are we really so juvenile that we have to be told not to believe everything on
the internet? Take the time to educate yourself and fact check things before
you forward them to the masses.
If you don't, then you should be ashamed by your gullibility, lack of education
and willingness to be someone's pawn.
