Good news for you guys... this blog is short!

Anyway, it came to my attention earlier that there is a website that has a petition to start drilling for oil in the United States.   Here is the link for complete details:

Drill Here.  Drill Now.  Pay Less.

According to the website, so far, there have been 75,150 signatures as of this posting.

Will it actually accomplish anything?  Your guess is as good as mine.  I just thought I'd get the word out to you.   Have a look at it, if your so inclined.

Well, I have already been raving about this for quite some time.
The US could be sitting on some major oil deposits.
The so called "dust bowl" could be covering the biggest oilfield in the world!

We will never know, until we try.

We should try, and try now.

Why not. The only reason the oil companies dont want to is that they cant charge as much for the oil here and it would dip into their profits.

I think you have it mixed up, Ericjhach. The oil companies are the ones that were complaining that they aren't being allowed to drill. The government, along with the envirnomental groups, are the ones that prohibit drilling. Besides, how are they going to keep thier business going if they don't get more oil?

I think we should override the tree huggers and go for it. Because of that few (and some politians) the rest of the country has to dig deep into our pockets and that is not right. Start drilling in the Gulf, Alaska, and in my back yard if they want. I'd rather have the oil needed and shut down the dependency on the far east.

DaytonaFrank: Canada's large reserves are nowhere near the US and the ones they do have near are simply natural gas.. IMHO coal liquefaction is the way to go in the US

The US should actually look to Canada as a drilling model, no spills, every ounce of land needs to be cleaned and returned to it's pristine boring beauty.. There is no reason why not to drill in the US.

Although getting more crude oil is certainly important the price of gasoline ultimately depends largely on how much crude is refined into gasoline and available on the American market.

Don't depend on any of the multi-national oil companies to favor the U.S. regardless of where they get the crude oil. They participate in the world market and their bottom line is what is most important to them.

Beg to differ on that dks. Canada and Mexico are our two biggest sources of crude oil.
Hugo land is #4.
Also, Canada only provides 15% of the natural gas we use. The majority of the rest comes from Trinidad, Algeria, Qatar, Egypt and Nigeria. As demand rises, Indonesia, Russia, and Peru will likely be added to the list of US suppliers.

You right when you say Canada provides about 15% of our NG. Although we only import about 15%. Heres the DOE link

Wasn't really what I was getting at though. Alberta and Saskatchewan are the 2 largest oil producers in Canada. Although Close to the 49th parallel, Most of the wells are NG. There are some pretty small oil reserves though.

I guess on the other hand they've really just begun exploring Saskatchewan and have found some fairly large reserves outside of the cypress hills and lloydmister area's Of SK. I wonder if a lack of exploration in the US plays any factor in not knowing if we do have any huge reserves? Another problem with this type of sour crude we cant get the majority out of the ground at this point in time.

Well, yeah. If we never look for it, we will never find it.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." -John Stuart Mill
