Imagine watching the international company you run fall apart. Now imagine you've got to work double time to keep the company from destroying the global economy because you've involved your company in many businesses around the world.

Everyday you wake up and the newspaper is hammering your boneheaded decisions. Meanwhile CNBC has ten people at once talking about your failures. Finally, you go hat in hand to the government who reluctantly gives you the money you need to protect the world against the mess you made.

Ugh, feels stressful just thinking about it. Afterwards, you probably want "Me" time to recuperate, correct? Okay, good. Now that you've been through what the AIG execs have been through, we hope you won't judge them too harshly:

Less than a week after the federal government committed $85 billion to bail out AIG, executives of the giant AIG insurance company headed for a week-long retreat at a luxury resort and spa, the St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach, California, Congressional investigators revealed today.

AIG documents obtained by investigators show the company paid more than $440,000 for the retreat, including nearly $200,000 for rooms, $150,000 for meals and $23,000 in spa charges.

"Less than one week after the taxpayers rescued AIG, company executives could be found wining and dining at one of the most exclusive resorts in the nation,"

And they SAY that CRIME doesn’t PAY….

Well..ONCE again the Left turns out to be their own worst enemy..

There are many ways to guage success in these debates.

One can cite the MANY erroneous statements made by Biden and call THAT a success for Palin..

One can cite Palin’s so called avoidances of certain questions and mark THAT as a negative for her..

As usual..BOTH sides can and inevitably WILL claim that it was THEIR side that won this debate hands down and they will EACH cite the MANY reason why YOU should think so too....

But Here’s the thing..These debates aren’t measured by talking points per se’..Unless there’s an OBVIOUS gaffe or outrageous lie or some other extraordinary point to make the measure of success will boil down to a simple matter of Perception,, or Impression..

It DOESN’T really matter that Palin came off as the winner to those who SIDED with Palin in the First Place and the SAME is EQUALLY true of Biden..

In the end what matters is how these two came across with those who haven’t made up their minds yet..

The Left and their willing partners in the Anti-Palin MSM went ALL out in these last two weeks with their campaign to portray Palin as Down and Out..UNABLE to recover from the Highly edited Interviews with Couric and Gibson…

The Result??

Because of their OVERKILL,, Palin didn’t HAVE to WIN the debate in order to WIN the debate..

She didn’t HAVE to stand toe to toe with Biden and PROVE that she was UP for the task.. But she did EXACTLY THAT and she did FAR FAR more..

The fact of the matter IS that Palin EXCEEDED all MEDIA CREATED expectations of her while Biden merely rose to the level of his and THAT’S a LOSS for Biden..

WE were left to believe that Biden’s Biggest concern was that HE didn’t want to look TOO bad by Beating Up on Palin too much.. Turns out he need NOT have worried himself over that at all..

BECAUSE of the Media Created HYPE over the Obama/Biden ticket,,we have been LED  to expect FAR  MORE from them and in THAT Both Obama and Biden have FAILED miserably in these debates so far......THEY have come up WAY short of the mark and THUS,,Way Short of expextations.. THAT is the inescapable IMPRESSION..

Palin Proved herself at LEAST the Equal to the hardened Politician with Decades of experience behind him..

And she PROVED that she could BEST him at his OWN game..And she HAD to DO it AGAINST the odds..

It IS Impressions that WIN these debates and Palin has shown herself to be a VERY Impressive adversary after all......

We have a WORLDWIDE ( Sic ) Crises that was CONJURED up within TWO months of a PRESIDENTIAL Election..

We have the VERY people that have been IDENTIFIED for YEARS as the CULPRITS of this Looming Disaster come up with a BOGUS Agreement COMPLETE with an Element ( Earmarks for a CRIMINAL Extortion Community Organization named ACORN.. TRAINED by and DEFENDED in COURT by the DEMOCRAT Candidate ) that was KNOWN to garner the wrath and be rejected by the American People..

We have a REPUBLICAN Candidate that was CRUCIFIED by the Mainstream Media because HE was blammed for the Collapse of a BOGUS Agreement ( that ACTUALLY collapsed BEFORE he EVEN got there ) that was UNIVERSALLY opposed by the VAST Majority of the American People…

We have a BILL that the SPEAKER of the HOUSE Sabotaged INTENTIONALLY and we Laugh and call HER stupid and revel in OUR victory as that Bill goes down in Flames..

And NOW what do we see..

We have the Democrat Leaders coming out of the Senate Grinning from EAR to EAR after PASSING a NEW Bill LOADED with PORK and PRAISING the VERY same Culprits who got us INTO this mess in the First Place…

This Bill is ALMOST certain to Pass through the House..Already those who voted against ther LAST one claim that they MUST pass THIS one..

And WHY??

This was supposed to be something that HAD to happen LAST WEEK or WE WERE ALL DOOMED….

Even NOW the Markets are NOT waiting for Imminent Death as we WAIT for the Outcome of this..THEY’RE waiting to see how much a "Bill" will effect the Value of their Assets BEFORE they make ANY move…The MARKET Freeze is CAUSED by the GOVERNMENT…..

And WHAT does this Bill end up giving us???

"What is WRONG with the American People ??" they’re asking.."Don’t those IDIOTS know how SERIOUS this is?? WHY can’t they SEE it???"

And the FIRST thing that crossed my mind was,, well NO,, they DON’T see it.. why SHOULD they??

THIS is just ONE MORE example of a LONG line of Doom and Gloom predictions that the American People have had to put up with for the last 30 some odd years..MANY have NEVER known a time when THIS was NOT the case..

We SHUT down our Nuclear Power Industry on the word of that Noted Nuclear Physicist Jane Fonda who EARNED her credentials by virtue of a Movie that she made..

We were ALL gonna DIE if we didn’t DO that..

We were ALL gonna DIE again by the mid eighties from Ozone Depletion based on the word of that world renown Astrophysicist Ted Danson..

Right in the middle of McCain’s Campaign when Obama’s having to Face his Personal Nightmare of having to debate McCain ONE on ONE,, Something that HE has STEADFASTLY refused to do,, Harry Reid Declares,,

"NO agreement is POSSIBLE unless McCain is a part of it.."

THIS was an OBVIOUS attempt to Disrupt McCain’s Campaign at a CRUCIAL point in time where the TWO candidates are DEAD EVEN in the polls....DEAD EVEN means DEAD LAST for OBAMA..

Reid NEVER asked for Obama’s participation..NOT once..

The Democrats have been scurrying around like cockroaches since this crises began trying to PIN the WHOLE thing on Republicans but,,, as we KNOW by the Absolute and Complete ABSENCE of ANY calls for ANY investegations,, ALL they can come up with are DEMOCRAT names like Dodd,, the CHAIRMAN of the Banking Committee who’s been LINKED to scandalous activities,, Franks,, the CHAIRMAN of the Ethics Committee who REFUSES even to LOOK into the matter and a HOST of OTHER democrats like Jamie Gorelick and FORMER Clinton Appointees turned CEOs of FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS...TRY as they may and they ARE trying,,They CAN’T seem to find a Republican to Blame all this on..They TRIED Bush but their Claims have been PROVEN to be LIES.. They tried McCain with the SAME results..BOTH have WARNED Congress of this looming crises for YEARS and the DEMOCRATS,, namely the aforementioned names,, Dodd and Franks,, BLOCKED every attempt to DO anything..

THEN they tried to BLAME the Republicans for Deregulation when in fact it wasn’t Deregulation at ALL that caused this crises in the FIRST place..It was GOVERNMENTAL INTERFERRENCE in the FREE Market with their DEMANDS for the existance of

(N)o (I)ncome,,   (N)o (J)ob no (A)sset (NINJA) Loans..

So what happens?? McCain does the unexpected..He CALLS Reid’s Bluff and does the unthinkable to a DEMOCRAT..He pute COUNTRY above McCain as he has ALWAYS done..

He COMTACTS Obama and informs him of what HE intends to do and Obama tells HIM what HE wants McCain to do and THEN Obama Whines and acts like McCain did something wrong when he follows his OWN plan..

McCain announced a SUSPENSION of his Campaign for the GOOD of the Country…The Pundits crawled out of the woodwork accusing McCain of pulling some kind of a political stunt and Obama makes a speech stating that HE,, the NEXT " President of the United States " (sic),, doesn’t think that the most critical issue of OUR time is worth HIS time..NOT if it gets in the way of HIS Political Posturing..

So,,THEN what happens??

AMERICA sides with McCain…

McCain’s ratings go UP as the American people APPROVE of his action and Obama’s falls as He's SEEN for what he REALLY is and ALL of a sudden there’s REID saying that McCain isn’t needed any more..

MEANWHILE,,, a so-called agreement by the SENATE DEMOCRAT LEADERSHIP is supposedly hashed out,, COMPLETE with EARMARKS intended to turn the Rescue effort into yet ANOTHER entitlement program for the VERY same people that CAUSED these problems and it NEVER even MAKES it to EITHER the Senate Floor OR the House for debate,, let ALONE approval.. Yet the DEMOCRATS claim that there's an AGREEMENT..

So,, The PRESIDENT calls ALL the Leadership of BOTH parties,,BOTH houses together in ONE place and LO and BEHOLD,, it turns out that the agreement ISN"T really an agreement after all..You’re hearing that Republicams who were EXCLUDED from working OUT any agreement and had NO knowledge OF it  have reversed themselves on that very SAME agreement.. NOT true.. They have ALWAYS said that they would NEVER support ANY agreement that DIDN’T prevent this sort of Crises from happening again..And that they would NEVER Support ANY agreement that was turned into yet ANOTHER Democrat Porkfest…

Obama ,, on the other hand,, wants Business as usual with but ONE crucial "Change".. That the Greedy CEOs be REPLACED by GREEDY Democrats..

So,, AFTER the INEVITABLE happens WHAT do THEY claim???

That the SAME McCain that the DEMOCRATS said "If HE’S not here this will NEVER happen" are NOW saying that it didn’t happen because he WAS there..

Of COURSE,,OBAMA had to be DRAGGED from making Stump Speeches to be there too but NOTHING is being said of HIS presence..

By their OWN unintended admission,, THEY,,the DEMOCRATS themselves,, have declared Barak Hussein Obama to be an EMPTY SUIT,, distinguishable ONLY in his Irrelevancy..

If the Democrats keep up THIS kind of Outrageous Behavior  as they did HERE and when they RAN AWAY from the ENERGY Crises we shall see a Republican Congress as well as a Republican President come January..

Can Somebody PLEASE explain to ME how it IS that Taxing WORKING FAMILY Small Business Owners making $200,000 and UP for the REST OF THEIR LIVES,, and who ALREADY pay the VAST majority of taxes in this country,, because of the Pillaging and PLUNDERING of America’s Financial Institutions by the likes of OBAMA,, DODD and OTHERS..MOSTLY Democrats,, but SOME RINO Republicans too,, Constitutes,,

Roughly HALF of those making incomes of $200,000 are SMALL business Owners and WHERE do YOU think these taxes are going to end up showing up.... IN PRICES..

Prices that YOU will pay but will blame on EVERYTHING but the REAL causes for them..TAXES….

FIRST they redefine the poor and disadvantaged child to include ADULTS up to 24 years of age making up to $85,000 a YEAR for a SCHIP expansion proposal THEN they REDEFINE $200,000 a year as the NON-working RICH..The Middle Class ISN’T disappearing from the American way of life at ALL..

It’s JUST being REDEFINED away by DEMOCRATS seeking to FOSTER Class Envy and Discontent..…

On TOP of THAT they are NO longer satisfied with taking from the Working American and giving it to the chronic and hereditary elements of AMERICAN society whose Idea of the "American Dream" is for the Government to provide them with the Standard of Living that the REST of us have had to EARN through HARD work and LONG hours,, OH NO..

THE Democrats have believed their OWN lies and those "Roosters are coming home to Roost" and they’re MAD as Hell and they’re SCARED as Hell..And WHAT do they ALWAYS do when they’re mad and scared?? They attack with a BLIND and MINDLESS stream of VITRIOL and VENOM that reveals their TRUE face..The MASKS have fallen and what laid beneath them isn’t pretty.. But then again,, YOU weren’t EVER supposed to see that..

ALL the women in positions of power under ANY Republican Administration have ALL faced the SAME types of sexism as has Palin.. THIS isn’t anything NEW…NOT really..Hell..Condi NOT only had to suffer through blatant Sexism at the hands of the "Party for Women’s rights" but had to Suffer the Ignoble Indignity of being cast as an Aunt Jimina by the "Party against Racism".. Clarance Thomas faced SIMILAR racism by the SAME party  when HE stood in the limelight and is STILL victimized by it..

What we have seen this past week is the exposure of a LIE..A Lie that has been accepted as Common Knowledge by TOO many people for FAR too long..

It is NOT the Republicans that ARE the Rascist,, Sexist,, Homophobic Neanderthals that they are,, and have been,, for FAR too long portrayed to be..It is the ACCUSERS instead..

THE whole concept of the differences between the parties,, as defined by the Democrats,, will NEVER be accepted without question again..THAT is what they FEAR..

When you compare ACTIONS to ACCUSATIONS it is THEY who lose and they LOSE by their OWN hand..

It was a troubling time..a Time of Recession..Prices UP.. Employment Down.. RUNAWAY INFLATION,, Rumors,,MOSTLY LIES,, abounded in the quest for answers,, Manufacturing and Industry a shell of what they once were..SOME called it a DEPRESSION..Others argued that it would SOON pass..It was WORLDWIDE but FEW people KNEW of this..THEY were told that it was Local..That their problems were the result of Faulty Leadership,, that they were the victims of Lies..

Seemingly out of nowhere there arose a Figure of Inspiration who preached the message of change..He spoke of the nation’s past Greatnesses and promised a Change that would RESTORE that Greatness..He spoke of the problems and IDENTIFIED the Villians while PROMISING that HE and HE alone had the answers and the solutions..

And the people Listened..

His speeches were mesmerizing,, his Manner Confident.. His demeanor demanded,, and received,, Adoration and Inspiration from the masses whenever and wherever he spoke.. MANY would gladly DIE for him.. NONE questioned his Leadership abilities and NONE questioned WHERE he was leading them and in the end,,they PAID a DEAR and HEAVY PRICE for that..

The Place,,Germany..The TIME,,,, the Thirties ..The Leader,,Adolph Hitler..

And we ALL know the rest of THAT story..

Leadership is NOT nearly so important to know as IS the DESTINATION..It is a Lesson that HISTORY teaches time and time again…

Great Governments do NOT make a GREAT Nation OR a GREAT People..

Great PEOPLE make a GOVERNMENT Great and THAT is the ESSENCE of a GREAT NATION..

One of the things that struck ME about this convention was ALL these BIG names coming out ALL WEEK LONG denying that there was EVER any kind of a serious Rift among the Democrats,,

THEN we’re supposed to BELIEVE that Saint Hillary was the SOLE engineer of the "healing" of that rift that DIDN’T exist with her Unparralled Graciousness and Unprecedented Statesmanlike call for a "Nomination by Acclamation"..

And NOW,, we’re supposed to believe that the WHOLE Democrat party,, which was NEVER devided in the first place,, is somehow unified as NEVER before??

Happy days are HERE again!!!!!

At the SAME time,, we are LED to believe that the Messiah Obama,, the ONE and ONLY,, made some kind of Magnanimous gesture by calling for the Restoration of the Fla. and Mich. delegate Votes…

So tell me people,,WHERE is the risk in DOING this when a DEAL had ALREADY been made between Obama and Hillary to have this "Vote of Acclamation"??

And Yet,,  the ONE that YOU voted for didn’t even get ONE VOTE last night... NOT ONE!!!

YOU are FOOLED into believing that YOU won something EVEN though you were,,  in FACT,, SIMPLY taken OUT of the Game..

IT WAS ALL SO PLANNED……..ALL so Choreographed..

THIS convention,,and the ONE coming UP,, are BOTH a FARCE..It NO longer matters what the American People want or EVEN what they call for..It DOSEN'T even matter  what WE VOTE for anymore..

Is it ANY wonder that the Voter Turnout was so LOW during this most recent of elections..On top of ALL of the election controversies we NOW KNOW as PLAIN as day that EVEN when there’s NO indication of "Voter Fraud" our votes STILL don’t count..

We NO longer have a say so in the vetting or nomination process..THEY tell US who’s going to run and their ONLY job is to convince US that THEIR choice is what WE wanted ALL along..

I KNEW,, and said so MANY times over the past 4 years,, that when an UNKNOWN State Senator from Illlinois was introduced at the LAST Democrat Convention,, and EVERYBODY wondered WHO he was,, that Obama was going to be the NEXT Democrat Nominee for President..

OVER and ABOVE the FACT that WE were TOLD time and time again that it was OWED to Hillary..That HER  nomination was going to be a SURE THING..

We’ve ALL seen the questions on these sites and elsewhere,, Hell,, SOME of us have even ASKED them..

HOW is it that our Nominees end up being,, a NOBODY coming from NOWHERE managing to wrest the nomination from as POWERFUL a PARTY Figure as is Hillary on the ONE side,, and on the other,, HOW is it that the OTHER guy,, if ANYTHING ,, comes from being "OUT of the Race" at ONE point BECAUSE he IS known ALL TOO WELL by EVERYBODY and ONE who SINGLE handedly spurred on the Republican Revolution that PUT the Democrats IN control..

How is it that ALMOST overnight THESE are OUR ONLY choices??

The threat of militant Islam on US college campuses

An unusual thing happened on April 29th at the University of Colorado.

"A decidedly pro-U.S. and pro-Israel event took place on Ward Churchill’s old stomping grounds at the Boulder, Colorado campus as former PLO terrorists

***Hanan Ashrawi is a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council. She has long been the darling of certain segments of the Western media thanks to her fluent English, her PhD, and her gender. For example, Leslie Stahl of 60 Minutes has lauded Ashrawi as a "Palestinian who has been at the peace process longer than almost anyone" (program aired December 11, 1994). Ashrawi frequently appears on American television and radio. One rare exception to the journalistic fawning over Ashrawi was Barbara Amiel's 1993 profile of the Palestinian spokeswoman in the London Sunday Times. Amiel was struck by the "lies and distortions" in Ashrawi's retelling of events. A Palestinian Christian who is a longtime Holocaust denier, Ashrawi officially joined the PLO's "Palestinian Diplomatic Committee" and the "Intifada Political Committee" in 1988. The 2 ex-terrorists event marked a watershed moment in getting the message out that jihad being promoted on US college campuses and can be checked if only some minor efforts are made by those seeking to present the truth in cooperation with college administrators and campus law enforcement.

I was attached to the event by the Walid Shoebat Foundation to organize in advance attendance and to head off any problems with the MSA on the Boulder campus. This event, titled "Why We Want to Kill You," after Shoebat’s latest book, introduced attendees to the terrorist backgrounds of Shoebat and Saleem, both of whom were once assigned by the Muslim Brotherhood to promote militant Islam and jihad within the United States during their younger years and who had been actively involved with terrorism through the PLO in the Middle East in their youth. Shoebat explained to a rapt audience about how he had been assigned to Loop College in Chicago and worked from a basement with a militant imam to promote jihad in America. Saleem told the audience how he went on his first terrorist mission for al Fatah while less than ten years old and later as an adult who was assigned by the Muslim Brotherhood to spread jihad within the US, particularly on college campuses.

The event, like previous events, had many obstacles to overcome just the week before. Posters about the event that were authorized by the campus administration were torn down almost as fast as they went up or covered with posters from an Islam Awareness Week presented by the MSA on campus that same week. The distribution of free advance tickets, available at the Student Union also had problems; when people came by to get them they were at first told the event had already been sold out and was inaccessible or that persons without student ID could not obtain them. It was never made clear if this was intentional or an error on the part of staff. The campus police demanded double the police officers for security resulting in an additional $5,000 expense for the College Republicans that was ultimately met.

But the worst vilification in advance of the event came from the local

The MSA in one breath would declare both men as terrorists that should be arrested if they were really ex-terrorists, then proclaim its support for terrorist groups like Hamas and Hizballah. Both Shoebat and Saleem were accused of being frauds out to make money and the press cited as their source comments from Ibrahim Hooper, the head of CAIR that has had several of its leaders already indicted and prosecuted for aiding terrorist movements like Hamas. Some intelligence gathered before the event revealed the MSA planned to drown out the speakers by screaming "Allahu Akhbar" during the event. But once the campus police were alerted about this and advised to warn the MSA not to do so, the plan fell apart. As an added precaution, every seat at the event had a disclaimer listing the state law about disrupting a lawful meeting and the legal penalties involved with a warning that intentional disruptions would lead to prosecution. There was no repetition of near riots and heckling as has occurred atUC Irvine, UC Berkeley and other campuses in the past.

Only days before, some MSA students approached the College Republicans’ table in the student union where tickets were also being distributed to declare they found the event "offensive." These students spoke of "Israeli state terrorism" in the same breath they claimed to oppose terrorism, but also acknowledged their support for Hamas. At the same time, when I asked how many of the MSA students had read the Hamas charter, none had. One 18 year-old, who identified himself as Vice President of the campus MSA, whose family came from Iran, said that Iran does not persecute Jews, that Ahmadinajhad never said he wanted to wipe Israel off the map, and was misquoted by all the news agencies of the world. He claimed that all exhortations to jihad and calls to kill Jews were mistranslations (apparently only he knew how to translate the Koran). The next day at the question and answer period after Shoebat and Saleem spoke, he, thje student, announced that if the US went to war against Iran, he would go fight for Iran that he referred to as "my country," despite his growing up in and attending college right here in America.

It was to ideas like these that both ex-terrorists addressed as a need for people in America to understand that worldwide jihad is being promoted as much in the colleges of America as it is overseas through the Muslim Students Association and its affiliated groups. Kamel Saleem pointed to the US flag on stage and said, "I don’t advocate against all Muslim people. There are many good Muslims," he continued, "But I want to see Muslim-Americans running with the US flag saying they support America against America’s enemies,." emphasizing the epiphany he had since starting out with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Accused by another MSA student of staging the event to make money or sell books, Walid Shoebat replied, "I’ll gladly open the urged people to become aware of this and fight it. Despite the clarity of his message, one student, a former President of the MSA at the University of Colorado tried to shout over him, "What’s your message? What’s your message?" as if he had spent the last two hours in a vacuum.

"My message," said Shoebat, "is for you to shut up!" at which point the entire audience rose to their feet in a standing ovation. The MSA members remained seated, but it was clear the rest of the Boulder, Colorado crowd did enthusiastically get the message.

"A nice-sounding bill called the "Global Poverty Act," sponsored by Democratic presidential candidate and Senator Barack Obama, is up for a Senate vote on Thursday and could result in the imposition of a global tax on the United States. The bill, which has the support of many liberal religious groups, makes levels of U.S. foreign aid spending subservient to the dictates of the United Nations

Senator Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has not endorsed either Senator Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton in the presidential race. But on Thursday, February 14, he is trying to rush Obama's "Global Poverty Act" (S.2433) through his committee. The legislation would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends.

The legislation itself requires the President "to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day."

The bill defines the term "Millennium Development Goals" as the goals set out in the

The U.N.

In addition to seeking to eradicate poverty, that declaration commits nations to banning "small arms and light weapons" and ratifying a series of treaties, including the International Criminal Court Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol (global warming treaty), the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Millennium Declaration also affirms the U.N. as "the indispensable common house of the entire human family, through which we will seek to realize our universal aspirations for peace, cooperation and development."

Jeffrey Sachs, who runs the U.N.'s "Millennium Project," says that the U.N. plan to force the U.S. to pay 0.7 percent of GNP in increased foreign aid spending would add $65 billion a year to what the U.S. already spends. Over a 13-year period, from 2002, when the U.N.'s Financing for Development conference was held, to the target year of 2015, when the U.S. is expected to meet the "Millennium Development Goals," this amounts to $845 billion. And the only way to raise that kind of money, Sachs

(S.2433) was introduced in the Senate by Senators Barack Obama (D-IL), Chuck Hagel (Chief RINO and Democrat Wannabe-NE), and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) on December 7, 2007.evidence that "CTR funds have eased the Russian military's budgetary woes, freeing resources for such initiatives as the war in Chechnya and defense modernization." He recommended that Congress "eliminate CTR funding so that it does not finance additional, perhaps more threatening, programs in the former Soviet Union." However, over $6 billion has already been spent on the program. exposed as having funded nuclear projects in Iran through Russia. bill itself quotes Bush as declaring that "We fight against poverty because opportunity is a fundamental right to human dignity." Bush's former top aide, Michael J. Gerson, writes in his new book, Heroic Conservatism, that Bush should be remembered as the President who "sponsored the largest percentage increases in foreign assistance since the Marshall Plan..."

Obama's bill has only six co-sponsors. They are Senators Maria Cantwell, Dianne Feinstein, Richard Lugar, Richard Durbin, Chuck Hagel and Robert Menendez. But it appears that Biden and Obama see passage of this bill as a way to highlight Democratic Party priorities in the Senate.

The House version (H.R. 1302), sponsored by Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.), had only 84 co-sponsors before it was suddenly brought up on the House floor last September 25 and was passed by voice vote. House Republicans were caught off-guard, unaware that the pro-U.N. measure committed the U.S. to spending hundreds of billions of dollars.

It appears the Senate version is being pushed not only by Biden and Obama, a member of the committee, but Lugar, the ranking Republican member. Lugar has worked with Obama in the past to promote more foreign aid for Russia, supposedly to stem nuclear proliferation, and has become Obama's mentor. Like Biden, Lugar is a globalist. They have both promoted passage of the U.N.'s Law of the Sea Treaty, for example.

The so-called "Lugar-Obama initiative" was modeled after the Nunn-Lugar program, also known as the Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) program, which was designed to eliminate weapons of mass destruction in the former Soviet Union. But one defense analyst, Rich Kelly, noted

More foreign aid through passage of the Global Poverty Act was identified as one of the strategic goals of InterAction, the alliance of U.S-based international non-governmental organizations that lobbies for more foreign aid. The group is heavily financed by the U.S. Government, having received $1.4 million from taxpayers in fiscal year 2005 and $1.7 million in 2006. However, InterAction recently issued a report accusing the United States of "falling short on its commitment to rid the world of dire poverty by 2015 under the U.N. Millennium Development Goals..."
