Immigration reduces wages by 4 percent for all workers and 7 percent for those without a high school education; Between March 2000 and March 2004 the number of unemployed adult natives increased by 2.3 million, but at the same time the number of employed immigrants increased by 2.3 million; Analysis shows little evidence that immigrants only take jobs Americans don’t want.

For one thing, immigrant job gains have been throughout the labor market, with more than two-thirds of their employment gains in jobs that require at least a high school degree;

In job categories such as construction labor, building maintenance, and food preparation, immigration added 1.1 million adult workers in the last 4 years, but there were nearly 2 million unemployed adult natives in these very same occupations in 2004.

About two-thirds of the new immigrant workers in these occupations are illegal aliens; Not only is native unemployment highest in occupations which saw the largest immigrant influx, the available evidence also shows that the employment picture for natives looks worst in those parts of the country that saw the largest increase in illegal immigrants..

So,,ONE of the reasons for unemployment among Natives who can FILE for Benefits is that their Jobs are going to Illegal Invaders who CAN’T ..

There are MANY reasons why the Rate of Unemployment Fluctuates from time to time but of ALL of them,,

TAX cuts have NOTHING to DO with this..

I would disagree with the figures because for one, it's hard to substantiate them. No one is going to go and tell anyone, even a surveyor, "Yes we decided to hire illegal immagrants."

At the same time I agree that giving jobs to illegal immigrants is wrong because it's against the law.

As for unemployment it's been on the decline across the board, common sense dictates that if you cant afford a legal employee it's because you cant afford them. That means you don't have the available work to pay for them. So if you don't have the work, you're not going to go out and replace a legal employee with an illegal immigrant because the problem is no work not saving money.

Also the myth is that they pay illegals substantially less than legal employees. That's not true, in most cases they are payed only a few dollars less an hour. that few dollars less an hour doesn't make it that feasible to replace an employee. Also most illegals are hired on for one construction job at a time, not full time. They are essentially filling the void of day laborers for the most part. The jobs being lost are permanent jobs, not semi-permanent.

Over all I agree that hiring illegal immigrants is bad but it's not bad for the economy. Why, because even illegal immigrants put money back into the economy. When money is put back into the economy it stimulates growth which in turn opens up more jobs. At the same time if companies save money on hiring illegals they turn that money saved over and reinvest into their companies, by doing this they open up permanent jobs which are taken by legal employe

You know what, Hawk, you must be reading my mind. I was thinking along these lines just yesterday. I am a big fan of HC Modern Marvels, The Ice Road Truckers, The Deadliest Catch, the loggers series, the oil drillers series and the many many other "strong men doing big jobs" productions and I must say....what in the hell happened to those kind of jobs that our citizens used to do? Iron Workers, man that was a job back when. I watched the documentary of the building of the Mackinac Bridge and Hoover Dam and was in awe of the labor and laborers. Building dams, building skyscrapers, building bridges (to somewhere), building ships, forging iron, coal mining, mining for iron and silver. Americans were called out to do what they did best, extract our own products, from our own land, build what needed to be built and then went on to the next thing.
We need to keep those skilled trades, we need to go back to using those skills and using our OWN natural resources to get it. The American Laborer built this nation and the American Laborer needs to get those jobs back and I think you would have plenty of them lining up to learn those skills and put them to real use.
Quit importing tires, iron, oil, wood, cement etc....WE HAVE IT RIGHT HERE UNDER OUR OWN NOSES. Wake UP America!

Sageman you are so out of touch it is sickening! I work construction and I see who is working full time. I also see the unions snatching up the illegals because they are to stupid to question getting ripped off by the unions.

SILLY LIBERAL! PAY CHECKS ARE FOR PEOPLE WHO WORK!

Well, we've been waiting eight years for our "law and order" Compassionate Conservative in Chief to secure our borders and stem illegal immigration after a cataclysm like 9/11, but it still hasn't happened. His solution to the problem was amnesty and "guest worker" programs. As for the American laborer building this country, most of those American laborers were immigrants -- but legal ones. America is, after all, a nation of immigrants. (Even Native Americans were immigrants at one time, crossing the Bering Strait long before Europeans touched the East Coast.) Finally, hear, hear for quitting so many imports and making it at home. Unfortunately, most CEOs of corporations here are bent on preserving their gold parachutes rather than settle for silver ones, so they're content to ship jobs overseas to cheap labor rather than pay decent wages and benefits in the USA. How very ungrateful and unpatriotic! To get, you have to give -- and put something back into the system that allows you such freedom to generate wealth and keep it. Greed does America no good, and it's getting nigh impossible to "buy American" conscientiously anymore.

RandyLoo: I dunno if you'll get a kick out this. Last years episode, it was the last haul of the season to that mine on the southern ice road. My sports compact car that I have in FL has been on those ice roads. Plus I have a ball cap that I got in tuk that you'll never be able to be able to get unless you have been in tuk or know someone there :) .. I do think they make it a little over dramatic though... still have my polar bear plate put away.

You know people that reside in the NWT get free college education. not a penny out of their pocket.

What a bunch of tighta**, nose-in-the-air fools. Go back to Junior High with your "We're better than you are" nonsense. That kind of division combined with the leadership of a buffoon is what has put this country in the mess it's in. Go ahead, line up and start slinging your little insults. Then pucker up and notice my backside.

LOL! sensiblejoe.. You might want to look at how the numbers on the border are dropping, and take a look at border towns where on our side they are trying to get school papers to TAKE BACK, and Mexican towns on their side are complaining that they are unable to deal with the influx of new residents that are "comming back!"

As for golden parachutes for CEOs I remind you that a board of directors and share holders negotiate the CEO's compensation package! You blame CEOs like you blame Big Oil for everything! Then the facts get in the way and mess up everything!

With all the controversy surrounding the issue not to mention political grandstanding and misinformation offered by the government, about the only certain reason for the rate of unemployment is that that number of people are not working. The reason or cause is elusive when there is so much manipulation going on and talking points/propaganda circulating.

misinformation from the govt? Ah come on shadows... Since it can't be put directly onto Bush's shoulders liberals like yourself now must over simplify it?

Yet the dollar since Friday has come back a little, and stocks went up, and gas prices are free falling at just the hint that we are serious about energy independence! Imagine what the price would be if liberals like Pelosi and her clan would actually respect the wishes of ALL the citizens instead of just the enviromentalist whos case of energy industry's impact on the planet extends further than America, and they aren't willing to go after anyone other than their own!

My point here was that there are MANY reasons for the ER being what it is and I gave but ONE OBVIOUS example of it..Another one for example..Did you know that someone becoming unemployed,, applying for benefits and THEN becoming employed again STILL gets reflected in the numbers???
