Please Bear WITH me here...

Here’s what gets me..You HAVE a Minister like Wright who REALLY DOES preach Racism and Hatred..

And LOOK,, I’m talking about indisputable,, undeniable,, indefensable EVERYBODY KNOWS it when they HEAR it RACIST Hatred..

The KIND of RACIST HATRED that should OFFEND each and EVRY American,, regardless of Race,, regardless of background,, regardless of creed.... I’d VENTURE to say that it would  have INDEED OFFENDED Martin Luther King..It CERTAINLY bore NO resemblence to ANY of HIS speeches of PEACE among ALL Men and Women of ALL colors,, NONE that I have heard anyway....

And WHAT happens???

The ENTIRE MSM spends weeks trying to TELL everybody that THEY didn’t HEAR what THEY know they heard..That WE ALL took it OUT of CONTEXT and IN FACT,, look how racist WE must be to get ALL that upset and worked up over it..They KEPT telling us this RIGHT up until WRIGHT himself shoved it UP their Backsides and made it IMPOSSIBLE for THEM to do ANYTHING other then Finally ADMIT the truth..So,, WHAT do THEY do NEXT??

They come up with EXCUSES for his Racism which as it turns out,, according to THEM,, isn’t really HIS Racism at ALL but MERELY the result of a LIFELONG exposure TO "White Racism"..It’s ALL our Fault..

And EVEN now,, we’re TOLD that despite the DESPICABLE nature of HIS Rhetoric,,WE have to put UP with it because,, after ALL,, it’s HIS right of FREE speech under the Constitution..

NOBODY’S calling for his arrest,, nor SHOULD they..

NOBODY’S calling for ORDINANCES to be passed to SHUT down the Church,, nor SHOULD they..

MUCH as it’s an AFFRONT to DECENT people of ALL races for this to be allowed to continue it STILL remains protected Free Speech under the Constitution..

In OTHER words,, LIKE it or NOT,, THEY have a RIGHT to BE Racists..They’ve EVEN imported ANOTHER Wright type Preacher,, THIS one WHITE,, to pick it up where Wright Left off,,abeit if ONLY to give OBAMA a PERFECT pretext to finally LEAVE the Church and NOT offend the Black Congregation..

So,, NOW,, WHAT do WE have going on today???

We have a Flag that IS,, at it’s WORST,, Controversial.. A FLAG that EVEN the MEDIA doesn’t SEEM to realize ISN’T EVEN the Flag that THEY think it is as has been pointed out by myself and MANY others on this site..Well,, We have THIS Flag being flown over a MEMORIAL to fallen Confederate Soldiers and,, LO and BEHOLD,, ALL hell breaks loose..

To SOME,, a PORTION of the population,, it’s a SYMBOL of EVERY Negative aspect of a region of a nation that ONCE allowed Slavery and THEY have EVERY right to FEEL that way..

To others,, it represents the SPIRIT of the South that HAPPENED to OWN Slaves but HEY,,, THAT isn’t the ONLY thing that SHOULD be remembered about the South..And Guess what?? THEY,, Likewise,,  have a RIGHT to THAT opinion..

To other’s, it represent a FREE rebellious spirit that WE ALL should be PROUD of while STILL others believe that that SAME rebellious spirit should be a lesson in SHAME..

MOST simply seem to believe that it represents a PRIDE in ONE’S OWN HOME,,as MUCH for what it IS today as for ANY other reason..

The THING of it IS,,

WHAT the Flag REALLY represents depends on WHO you talk to..It MEANS different things to Different people and I suspect,,it ALWAYS will..

SO,,,,WHAT’S the REACTION here..

We have the SAME MSM that approaches this story from a DECIDEDLY Different and Negative direction..

"oooOOOOoooo,,They’re back,, THOSE guys are back and they WANT to FLY that ugly Flag..THOSE IGNORANT BASTARDS..

HOW DARE THEY??"

Quite a CONTRAST to the portrayal of the cheering and applauding Congregation at the TRINITY Church..

We have the NAACP wanting to appeal to the members of the " Sons of Confederate Veterans" to THINK of the GOOD of the Community and TAKE the Flag down..

Now,,, I NEVER saw or HEARD of ANY group going to that Trinity Church to make Such an APPEAL..

We have the Fla. Chapter of the Anti-Defamation League DEMANDING that the Flag come down..

Correct me if I’M wrong but I don’t remember ANYBODY making DEMANDS on that church either and I’M SURE it would have made the NEWS..

And LAST but NOT least,, WE have a couple of Council Members,, SO far ALL I’ve seen are a couple of White Guilt Ridden Liberals doing this,, CLAMMERING for Laws and Ordinances to SHUT this exibit down,, to STAMP it OUT.. THEY HAVE TAKEN A VOW TO BURY THIS UNDER A PILE OF ORDINANCES..

AND,, They’re GOING to take it up at the NEXT meeting..NO concern for FREE speech here..NO Siree..

SO,,WHAT do WE conclude by making THIS comparison between these two SEPARATE but EQUAL situations..

As I said in My Previous Post..it is beginning to appear that to SOME people,, and THESE are people in positions of POWER,, the POWER to EFFECT our very Lives..The PEOPLE that DO effect our very lives..

ONLY Whites can BE Racist and ALL but Whites have the RIGHT of FREE Speech..

ONCE again Political Correctness TRUMPS the Constitution..

To ME,, SUCH people are FAR worse then ALL the REV.Wrights in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD put together...

Well, I agree. It is NOT just a symbol of slavery, and racism.
Many southern folks have lost entire familys that fought under that flag. Should that sacrifice be dismissed?
Because the confederacy lost, should all traces of them disappear from history, and/or dislay of even the simple flag?

You are correct that racism can only apply to whites. We see that daily in our media, our TV shows, and even our movies. It is discusting.

I do not think it will change, and may even get worse.

Maybe more Americans than ever will be flying that flag, just to get out of being knuckled under, or otherwise put down by the reverse discrimination that has actually taken over every facet of American life.

This is like the pot calling the kettle black (and absolutely no pun intended!) It seems to be perfectly okay for the blacks to be racists and yet it is not okay for anyone else. We cannot be selective as to who has the "right" to decide who is racist and who is not.
There is no forward movement when a group of people refuse to look forward and continue to look back upon what is in the past and how the past has mistreated them.
The Civil war has been over for more than a century. It's not only sad but pathetic that it continues to be re-hashed again and again with no new results particularly considering the people who were effected by it are long dead. When is it time to let go and move forward?
Many people today don't even realize what the war was all about: economics, tariffs, industry and governmental lawmaking and breaking. Slavery fit into it but was not the all over reason for the war at all.
The Civil War is a part of history along with the people involved and the symbols therein. There is no changing history as it stands or turning it into something it is not. It should be taught fully otherwise it will be continually misunderstood with ignorance as it is when the meaning of the flag has been twisted until the real reason for it no longer exists.

Like I said earlier in the day on the other post, the media over here in Tampa (all 4 of them) are crucifying this man. They have brought it to the attention of the masses and if you go to other news stations blogs they are promising to burn it down, wipe their butts on it and all other things. Now who is violating who's rights now? This man and this private brotherhood need to be left to their freedom of expression, right to their own property, and free of harrassment. No, No, No, now we have council members and commissioners on his tail too, they have no say so in this matter. What dumb ordinance are they going to come up with? They can't outlaw a flag for goodness sake. I will be there to stand up for him...you can bet your bippy on that.

It's Worse then THAT Sheryn...

It's NOT even the Flag of the Confederacy that we're talking about here..THIS flag NEVER flew over ANY Aspect of the Confederacy..It IS,,in fact,, a COMPOSITE of ONE of OVER 100 Confederate Battle Flags which were SQUARE and the SECOND NAVAL JACK which was Rectangular..( See Sigs Post..)

So,,Not ONLY is the MEANING twisted but the object OF that meaning has LIKEWISE been Twisted..

I have no words to express how I feel after reading this post.

EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I have tears in my eyes.

What I want to know, since you seem to be, well, intelligent in these matters, why dont you go to this meeting and tell them exactly what your post says. I mean who in their right mind could argue with logic like this?

Martin Luther King had a speech. i have a dream.. But it seems to me that speech is all that people remember. he also had another speech where he said concerning segregation and racism. "How long? Not Long! Because you shall reap what you sow."

maybe the pendulum has swung the other way. But the way that Whites are dealing with racism is TOTALLY different than the way Black people had to deal with racism some 40 yrs ago.

I dont care too much for the flag but I think that whomever wants to fly it has a right to. But come on guys. It has been only 40 yrs ago that the Confederate flag was used for hatred. Blacks were kicked out of their homes and beaten by the KKK and other hate groups and they carried that flag so whenever Black people saw that flag it brought fear. and that fear has turned into anger.
I understand about heritage and all but i am just trying to paint a picture of why some Blacks dont like that flag.

But DF and Hawkeye.. have no fear. Racism will change and I dont think it will get worse. You have to remember. A lot of Blacks during the Civil Right movement and Jim crow and reconstruction and Slavey thought that racism will never change and it did. But Blacks had to deal with racism for over 100 years. Reverse racism only some 30 yrs. That dont make it right but hey I didnt make the rules.

The FACT that we are HAVING this discussion is PROOF that things CAN and WILL get better..40 years ago it was the Flag that flew and NO Black Church,, KNOWN to be doing so,, would have been allowed to carry on as WE have seen it at THAT church..Times HAVE changed,, for the BETTER one would HOPE..For those who ONCE were struck with terror at the very sight of that flag NOW can they look upon it WITHOUT Fear and THAT,,,,THAT is a VERY GOOD THING...

Afelton, I understand the fear that the blacks of this nation came under with the onslaught of the KKK and other bigots of the south. I felt the same kind of sickness in my stomach when visiting the Civil Rights Museum in Atlanta just like I did when visiting the Holocaust Museum, or the Trail of Tears in Taliquaw OK. No one blubbered more than me while watching MISSISSIPPI BURNING, ROSEWOOD, AMISTAD and TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD and many other movies. We can never forget the horrors done to our American Citizens and to the Native Americans. History must not ever be repeated and I understand that the wounds are still fresh among many blacks. I don't think these men that are trying to establish a memorial on their own private property have any animosity towards any race. I have seen them on Confederate Memorial day on the old Courthouse lawn deliver a solemn and honorable and peaceful ceremony while placing a wreath at the statue that rest there honoring the Civil War Soldiers that never returned home. They aren't hateful men at all.

And why IS IT ONLY THIS FLAG? How come the CROSS or CRUCIFIX IS NOT even REMOTELY CONSIDERED wjhen the KKK BURNED MANY A BLACK PERSON, be it MAN, WOMAN or EVEN A CHILD on them right in their own FRONT YARDS!

Yet we "worship" this symbol that in the VERY CONTEXT of the REBEL or CONFEDERATE BATTLE FLAG that IS IN THIS VERY SAME VEIN!!!

So why aren't these same idiots that know so much calling to have every cross taken off every church, everyu home that has one ordorning it wether attached directly to the structure or planted in the yard?

Did not the KKK use these too? Damn straight they did, but you never hear the BAD SIDE of that symbol that should also be looked at with the same disdain by the VERY PEOPLE that ARE UPSET and DISLIKE the so-called "Confederate Flags".

So you tell me, what is wrong with THIS picture? Why complain about one and not the other that played just as big, IF NOT BIGGER (burning cross) than the Confederate flag?

These people seem to be EXTREMELY CONFUSED to me!

And yes, I DO support ANYONE that wants to fly the Confederate Flag as well as worship the cross, despite how their meanings have been contorted, twisted and MISUSED by ANY SPECIFIC GROUP of folks, wether they are BLACK, WHITE, RED or EVEN GREEN in color!!!

its our heritage and part of our past and the war stood for many things not just racism and the flag is on someones property and people should not be offended by it at all if they are they should wake up and realize its not like it was when the flag was made.

I feel everyone has a right to be proud no matter their race or beliefs. I wish everyone would just be American and leave the freedom of America alone. Why do people fight to take away freedom and call themselves Americans?

You want to hate something hate yourselves and your discriminating beliefs. Everyone in America has the right to flag any flag they want. People shed blood under that flag in the south and that cannot be disputed. Who cares why they want to fly the flag? How can we teach history and then say the confedaracy memorial cannot fly the flag they are remembering. You don't like it, don't go to it. I don't like certain religions, they advertise outside their churches, I just don't go that church.

Why does everyone claim the flag to represent hatred when the people against the flag are the haters. The people flying the flag are quiet and the people opposed are vulgar and arrogant. Read the previous posts.

If its about America and the freedom we stand for why is it always about taking that away.

The flag has all the right to be put wherever we want to put it. To associate it with the KKK is sad but true, but most African Americans I know also know that most white people do not agree with the KKK. Sadly it just a few that make a big fuss and the media loves it. And also sadly society teaches us that the flag is part of a racist lifestyle and not the true meaning of it.

What the has happened to freedom in Florida, Everything comes down to race. This flag doesnt stand for race it stands for the south and much more but not race and if people want to complain what about all of the other flags that are hanging out there if this one comes down then so does the PR flag,The Irac flag,Italian flag, and all the others, I dont complain that all of the other flags are about race it is about being proud of your heritage, I have completly lost faith in Florida, Everyone wants to complain about a flag how stupid is that and has everyone forgotten that Florida is the south. South. hello, This is part of our history. People are stupid to complain about stupid things like this,When there are so many other important things to complain about like gas and other rising prices. How dare people complain about this, Every chance people get they cry race, what ever.get over it None of you didnt even live back then so how the hell does it affect you. Slavery was over before you all were born.. How can you say that it has to do with you. I had nothing to do with any of you. Like I said they take away this flag they need to take away every other flag that is not the AMERICAN FLAG FREEDOM OF SPEECH where is that anymore have we lost this. NO ITS GETTING TAKEN AWAY FROM US> So here it is again and the south will rise again. GET OVER IT!!!!!!!

I do not believe we have a right to make them take it down, however , how would we feel if the Black Panther flag was raised? I do not agree with either flags' symbolism. However, this Country was founded on Freedom of Speech, and it is they're Constitutional Right to raise that flag, and the panther flag as well. Don't we have more important issues to contend with, such as a Lame Duck President whom has caused serious economic damage to our Country(way of life the WW2 generation gave us, and International hatred towards us and our way of life??

The underlying issue for ME here really has NOTHING to DO with this flag or that cross..

As I said..it means different things to different people ..I will neither defend it nor shall I curse it..What I WILL defend is the AMERICAN Constitutional RIGHT to FLY it..

If WE can be FORCED to put up with NAZIs marching through a community of Holocaust Survivers ( I HATED that EVEN though it NEVER actually Happened ) with ALL "ordinances " to prevent it struck Down by the Supreme Court we can SURELY see fit to defend THIS LEGAL act of Free Speech..

Speaking of gas prices, I would spend the money to take my children to the memorial to teach them the history of the south quicker than I would waste it to go to Disney. I would go to any national American historical landmark or memorial with my children if it indeed was about america no matter the flag flying. Although we see flags from all over the country in places here in america the only one we are fighting to preserve is an American flag of the southern states. Now doesn't that make sense to all you smart Americans?

this is all dumb.. its a southern flag for the right reasons.. of cours if a black sees a rebel flag they're gonna say "your racest" but your really not.. slavery was a LONG TIME AGO i'm 100% southern and i aint gonna take my rebel flag down no one.. people are NEVER gonna get over the past that happen years and years ago we live in 2008 people its time to get over who flys what..

We have to look at an Iraq flag where I live and it was flying proud when their country took down thousands of Americans. So what, they aren't the ones who did it. The people in the KKK aren't burning anyone anymore, the slaves are free and they are all dead by now. If they raised a Black Panther flag across the street I'd say more power to them, they have that right here in America, isn't that why they and we choose to live here?

I personally think EVERYONE should leave him ALONE.... he has done nothing wrong. He is showing his heritage... doesn't have to mean hate... but when people see the Confederate Flag that's the 1st thing they think of...is HATE....

Other folks seem to be able to show off their Heritage and Background... and their functions and beliefs... If the White race had all the Groups, Functions, Colleges, Marches that the African American race has good lord we would be shunned.

I think its BS and now someone is going to try and find some stupid loophole in a law that says he CANT fly that Flag... Just so they can hope to be reelected.. He isn't hurting anyone... its just politics!!! and its Bullchit if you ask me!!

True Redneck. But hey the man has the right to fly the Confederate Flag just like the Rev. Jeremiah Wright had the right to say the stuff he said. Although I dont agree with either I do understand from both sides why things were said and why flags are flown. and cowboyrandy, you are right it is too big.. how about fly the American Flag that big and place the Confederate Flag a little smaller next to it.
