From NEWSMAX…..

"With speculation swirling about presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain’s choice for running mate, a surprising name has popped into the discussion — New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

When McCain had breakfast with Bloomberg recently in Manhattan, a McCain spokesman told the New York Post that "discussing a vice-presidential slot for Bloomberg was not on the agenda."

But a source close to the mayor told John Heilemann of New York magazine that the topic was definitely part of the conversation.

"One of the participants, in fact, came away from the conversation under the distinct impression that Bloomberg is on McCain’s short list," Heilemann wrote.

The Democrat turned Republican turned Independent could aid the McCain campaign in a number of ways come November, according to Heilemann:

  • For one thing, billionaire Bloomberg’s entrepreneurial background could serve to counter McCain’s admitted shortcomings regarding economics.
Republicans are "losing on the economy by 10 to 15 points," said Doug Schoen, Bloomberg’s pollster during his mayoral campaigns. "With Mike on the ticket, that gap would quickly, dramatically close."
  • As a Jew, Bloomberg could strengthen McCain in several critical swing states with sizeable Jewish populations, including Florida, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
  • Bloomberg would enhance McCain’s image as a moderate,( He’d HAVE to move RIGHT for THAT ) and help distance him from the policies of an unpopular president as Democrats seek to portray the Senator as a George Bush clone, Schoen maintains.

"The Republican brand is dead, at least for this election," Schoen said. "McCain needs to go outside the box, and that’s where Mike lives."

  • Perhaps most importantly, Bloomberg could provide McCain with a huge financial boost if he were willing to spend part of his fortune on the campaign.

"Mike Bloomberg spent $83 million in a re-election simply in New York City," New York Deputy Mayor Kevin Sheekey told an interviewer. If he were the V.P. candidate, the figure would be "between zero and a billion [dollars]."

But there is one eventuality that could torpedo any McCain effort to land Bloomberg as his running mate — an overture to the mayor to run as the vice presidential candidate along with the likely Democratic candidate, Barack Obama.

According to Heilemann, Obama also had breakfast recently with Bloomberg, and even showed him an important economic speech before he delivered it.

A member of Bloomberg’s inner circle said that Bloomberg and Obama reps held a meeting in April, Heilemann reported, "to discuss the former’s suitability to being the latter’s No. 2." "

Is there NO difference whatsoever between the parties anymore????

Well, Bloomberg would be a plus when it comes to raising campaign funds, that's for sure.
His Jewish heritage may be a liability in other states that do NOT have a large Jewish population.
Also, his immense wealth might turn people off too. I think Perot may have done better too if he wasn't so filthy rich.
At least he will carry NY with Bloomberg on board, but may lose FL. With Charlie on the ticket, he will lose NY but carry FL.

Tough choice. If Obama gets Bloomberg on board, it could guarantee victory for him.

This is the worst election EVER! ALL the candidates suck!

God help America is right!

Yeah Obama met with Bloomberg too. I think Obama will select Rep Wexler of Broward-Palm BEach to help him in Florida (but Wexler is a transplanted New YORKah who isnt liked outside of Liberal land there).

And I will almost bet the farm, it will be Crist as VP for McCain. I just hope he doesnt pick the new GOv of Lousiana.

Oh and I agree.. this election started too soon and is dragging on too long and is a mess with FL and MI ripped off. And my rule never to vote for ANY Senator EVER NEVER is in play. So I will hold my nose and go with McCAin and start Rosetta Stone Spanish lessons.

If Obama, I will need Arabic, Red Chinese or Russian lessons, and wait for the ACLU type Federal Judges to destroy us... and French lessons with Marxism lessons thrown it.

If Hillary, I will need to leave the country to a place Nuke fallout cant reach...New Zealand.

That is just about the only thing McLiberal could do to make me throw my vote away this time. I will absolutely not vote for Bloomberg. Just can't do it. I will be writing in Ted Nugent.

Egads, we are screwed, no matter what! How many Americans do you think Australia will let in, before they shut their "gates"? LOl I'd never leave my country, but things might get bad enough here, that I might feel like doing so, and I'll bet many Americans WILL bail!

I have sworn since the Clinton era that if her majesty should ever manage to insinuate herself and slick Willy into the White House again, I would move to England. Hopefully, it won't come to that, but I'm developing a taste for tea and crumpets, just in case.

LOL! Starting to look like we have 3 candidates in the same party! The Liberal Moderate party! No true Dem. or Republican here representing either of the the initial core of the respected party.

This is why I will be sending a message with my vote, and not worry about party affiliation in the White House! If there was even a chance that conservative view would still hold a 60 vote count in the Legislature I might revisit my vote, but Conservatives have been thrown under the bus this time.

No not Bloomberg....I preferred Rudy if that's the case, at least he is head strong and did a great job during 9-11 and nO HE ISN'T A Hero..those lives that were lost are the only hereos but he sure did a great job FOR SOMEONE like many of us, who didn't know what the heck was going on. Just my two cents. I think Rudy would be an asset to McCain.

Good post....especially the last sentence/question.

No, I believe that the differences have been diminishing for about a hundred years, most rapidly since the sixties. Some valid arguments have been made that rapid change began even earlier.....about the time of Korea.

Hate to tell you, Deborah, but Australia is rapidly becoming as liberal as Canada is. In fact, they are in the process of pulling thier soldiers out of Iraq, as their participation has quote, "increased the threat of terrorism in Australia". Might want to think of another place to bail to.

Good lord, its going to be a long four years. This is the most pathetic bunch of candidates we've ever had.

This speculation is based on the “idea” that democrats can't lose this year...and that is a an idea that we have been being prepared for for some time, the media has pushed this the same as they have pushed the ideas that all liberal hopes are based on . But actually responding to this idiocy would cost McCain more than it would gain him ! Blomberg is a failure in every way and all he would/could bring to the race is a small section of the far left (the idea that he could draw a lot of support away from Obama is silly) but the small segment of the illegal population (who vote!) that Blomberg would bring to Mc's side would not balance against the number of real Americans that he would lose...Rudy would be a far better choice for accomplishing the same goal.
