Over the last several years, there's been postings on the internet including the one a few weeks ago to boycott big oil for one day because of the high prices.  Now, I for one believe that this wouldn't effect oil companies at all because it's for one day. But, if everyone and I mean everyone from coast to coast would boycott the same oil company for 30 days starting  with Exxon/Mobil on June 15, 2007. The reason I say Exxon is that they are making huge profits at the expense of the consumer. The other companies are making profits too, but nothing like Exxon. If no one is buying gas from Exxon/Mobil, prices would have to come down. Then on July 15, boycott Shell for 30 days and on August 15 boycott BP for 30 days and so on. I think it's time that consumers start banding together to combat high gas prices.  One day boycotts aren't going to work, but a 30 day boycott of one, maybe two oil companies for 30 days may just get their attention.

Don't know if that will work but it's a good theory and easy to do. I would love to test it out and see what happens.

The 15th of each month seems to be a hot date for some reason...MMMMMM

Who would contact all these people each month to let them know which ones to avoid or boycott?

Boycott the Gas Stations that are owned by the ones who have negativity towards our country...all of them! That might make a bigger dent and still be conservative.

A few flaws here. First, the US uses only about 30% of the world oil, on average, an oil company produces. Second, the oil companies actual PROFIT from a gallon of gas is between 8-9 cents, and has remained the same for many years.

What you need to look at is profit margin, NOT profit. On paper, it looks like they are making larger profits, but in reality they are paying much more for the oil themselves, so the actual profit margin has remained the same. Congress has investigated "big oil" many times for price fixing, etc., and never found any evidence of it happening.

Compare the 8-9 cents per gallon profit the company makes to the 50 cents the gov't is taking on each gallon!! Additonally, the cost of exploration, drilling and refining oil with different blends for many states, etc continues to go up.

Now compare the percent increase between gas, bread, milk, etc over the past 20 years. Look at what they have been paying in Europe for a gallon of gas over the past 20 years! Our gas is CHEAP!! Heck, people pay more for bottled water at the 7-11 then the same amount of gas costs!

Want to bring down oil prices?? It's all about supply and demand. When I ride in to work on I-4 on my motorcycle, I see the majority of cars with ONE OCCUPANT! If people would car pool one day a week, we could bring gas prices down overnight.

Not buying gas from a particular company for a month won't make a difference if the demand remains the same.

It's a good idea to try and conserve. If everyone did at least one thing a week every week, like car pool or not hopping in the car to run down to the 7-11 for a slushy every time you get the erg. Gas is essential and we can't do without it, we have to have it, we don't have to have bottled water we can get it out of the spigot. Also, trade in the big gas hogs for a more gas efficient vehicle, especially is you run around a lot. Maybe if everybody did that, it would send a message to the car makers and they would make a car that needs no gas to run. Or maybe they already have one and are waiting for the right moment to pull it out. I still like the word boycott, makes me feel like I'm doing something along with the rest of America.

Very good info and point there FlaNative...
I myself have been riding my motorcycle more and I have noticed the same thing with one person per vehicle!

And one more problem with this idea, as you rotate thru each comp. they will see the drop in sales and sell to other countried what we don't use. So it's really a no win cituation unless the Fed. and state tax per gallon was drastically reduced.

I was just thinking..Do you use up more gas if the AC is on? Anybody know?

IT won't work because people are apathetic about it. Nobody really cares enough to really DO anything about it.

Pattie, if you drive with the windows down or if you use the AC, it's all the same. With the AC on, you're more aerodynamic, with the windows down, there is more resistance with the outside air and the engine uses more gas. What really kills you is when you drive with the AC On and the windows down.

Thanks sipedo, that really make a lot of sense.

This state gets to unbearable with the heat so logically use your AC...it does use more gas using it but it's cheaper then risking an accident or hospital and doctor bills over getting over heated! On the cooler days or mornings crack your windows if they have the wind guard, if it's a four door then crack the back windows a little more then the front ones.

Thanks di, I really could not do without my ac in the car. The fumes from the other cars and noise are more then I can take.

First, like the comment says above, we take up about 30% consumption of oil... so you really would need other big countries to take part in this, and I wish you luck with that!
It's all a waste of time, and if you really want to see lower prices I have a much better and easy solution USE LESS OIL and no it's not a hard thing to do, however we are talking about a country who cannot control it's eating habits (eating to much) not saying that's everyone however its a strong percentage, so to say use less oil is like telling them to eat less.

I moved here from Indianapolis in 93, but I'm originally from Elizabethtown, KY which is about 40 miles south of Louisville. I spent eight years in the Army as a Military Police Patrolman then went into investigations and eventually working undercover drugs for a couple of years leaving the military with a Honorable Discharge as a Sgt/E-5. I now live in the Dr. Phillips area of Southwest Orange County. I got tired of the cold, snow and the ice and 50 degrees does not qualify as cold. I'm an avid University of Kentucky Fan who likes the outdoors such as fishing, horseback riding and going to the beach. I love Florida and what it has to offer.
