Day 2 Photos

5:30

The afternoon drafting sessions started out with packs of no more than three, as it seemed that at first drivers stepped gingerly. Later in the day the packs grew to 6 and 7.

I talked to Carl Edwards late in the day and he said that the draft was a ‘blast’ but that they were noticing blistered tires. Halfway through the afternoon session Reed Sorenson blew a tire and spun out. He didn’t hit anything, but Carl said that he went and looked at the tires that came off Sorenson’s car, and they looked blistered.
Once they get the tire figured out everything should be fine.

Carl said the lingering problem of being able to see through the car in front of you and being able to anticipate trouble is still there like it was at Talladega last fall. He added that NASCAR is looking at working on that.

The final day of testing tomorrow will be an entire day of drafting. They were later getting speeds out for the afternoon, I’ll get them posted as soon as possible, later this evening.

The last set of pictures is up, click on the link above to see them.

12: 30: Same as it ever was. That’s the theme for the morning session here at Daytona. After getting a late start because of a damp track from overnight dew, the teams made more single car runs.

Jimmie Johnson led the way again with a speed of 184.763. He was followed by Jacques Villeneuve win a Toyota with a speed of 184.456. Travis Kvapil in a Ford was fourth followed by Casey Mears and AJ Allmendinger in 5th.

Speeds will most definitely climb this afternoon as NASCAR officials will let the teams draft. That’s what all the drivers have wanted. Normally drafting would come on the last day of the three day session, but teams have been wanting to run the new cars in race conditions and this afternoon they will get their chance.

The second day of testing at Daytona International Speedway is set to get underway today…a couple of quick notes:

Garth Brooks will make an appearance today as NASCAR announces plans for NASCAR Day 2008 and Jeff Gordon mentioned Monday that the teams may be allowed to draft today, one day ahead of schedule, instead of the single car runs which are to be honest boring for everyone.

NASCAR scheduled a drivers meeting for this morning at 8AM we should know more after that.

In the drivers meeting this morning, NASCAR said that teams will be drafting this afternoon...cars didn't get onto the track until 10AM...the morning dew had track crews working on drying the surface until then.

By the way have you checked out our live streaming webcam from the track? What? NO?

Well check it out HERE

Expect the first pictures around 11AM and I’ll update any important happenings as they happen….

Until then console yourselves with some video clips from yesterday. I’ll try and add more when I get time….
