Cuba- whats the hangup in this country?

So Fidel's standing down and Raul (aged76) is taking over.-but at 76  how long for?

Is it time This country  relaxed its   hard line embargo on this  small island nation to our south?

I mean, how big a threat is this island to this mighty country?

The Europeans have had no hangup with Cuba for ages, yet our "leaders"  say no deals with Cuba etc, you cant fly direct to Cuba from the US (how nice of a government in the most free society on the planet to tell its people you cant do that)

Sure, we all know communism dont work, but I believe the more we infiltrate thier system and country, the faster the road to democracy will be !

And as a communist state-thier literacy rate is astounding and thier UNIVERSAL HEALTH Care  is second to none by the way)

After all -If we allowed investment in Cuba  and free travel again-South Florida would be half empty !

The Euro's have been vacationing in Cuba for decades and enjoying the country-how about we catch up with the rest of the world ........

FloridaBritt......may God hear you...and then our government........I think what scares me the most..is that in Cuba YOU DO THE CRIME YOU PAY YOUR TIME......no mental insanity; none of the BLEEP.....so yes, I wouldn't want to see Cuba fall to pots in a democracy where THE RICH RULES and the rest are peanuts.....though my brother was a political prisoner of 25 years of his life.....(all because he was against Fidel and was caught trying to escape) it really concerns me TO KNOW HOW GOOD EXACTLY will it be.......yes, to the free travel back and forth; yes, to bring some of our wonderful democracy.....but for the most part.....as you and I know.....it truly sucks...and I think my people fear that in their hearts. If someone rapes you and you are caught......you get castrated not treated to three meals a day and mental health care......its tough....

Well, I could never understand why the government has no problem trading with China, perhaps the most vehemently communist country in the world, but Cuba is off limits.
Does that make any sense at all?

I was always under the impression that Fidel and the Kennedy's had some sort of agreement..I have often wonder why AMERICA would go to Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and not do something to invade cuba...and I don't want to hear the misile crisis because that was 40 years ago and they were removed!!! someday we shall all have the truth...WHAT KILLS ME KNOW is hearing in the news about Fidel resigning and Cuba's would have a vote on a new PRESIDENT.......IS THIS SOME KIND OF SICK JOKE.........all Cubans since we are born..KNEW that the day Castro died or in this case the bastard live but is sick RAUL WOULD TAKE OVER...........there's no such thing AS VOTING.......IN CUBA.........LMAO

I say lets do business with Cuba and infect them with our American music, TV and movies. Give them a McDonnals hamburger and good pair of levi jeans. Show the people of Cuba what they are missing, lets have some American and Cuban interaction. The embargo and isolation treatment has'nt worked in over 40 years.

The embargo has been in place for so long for one reason. The perception of political power in the Cuban Miami exile community.

However, there is a very real danger of changing our relationship with Cuba. If all travel restrictions were lifted in Cuba, we would see yet another flood of refugees on our shores.

Hi everyone, Cuba does have Universal Health care.. but the problem is there is no medicine.. I have been to Cuba one time and saw things with my own eyes how bad the situation is... I really don't know how they live... but of course, if a person belongs to the communist party, their life is better. As for traveling to Cuba, it is not this country that imposes the restrictions it is Cuba. The Cuban gov opened up travel around 15 years ago. But for around 30 years it was totally cut off including phone calls. And when you send a letter it is read before it arrives to its destination..
So it is not this country it is Cuba that has sealed itself from the US

Well, than your comments on your experience there is useless Alexis.

And you are also wrong about the trade between the US and Cuba.

Cuba has always been open to trade, and have been importing produce and other goods for a few years now.
How could you have been there, and not know how they live?

I guess you didn't see it from your 4 star hotel, or your limo.

I want to drive an Aston Martin Vanquish but at this moment drive a car a lot less expensive !! I like flying with Microsoft flight simulator, and online gaming with Half Life. I love living here -could it be better?-sure but it could also be a lot worse. I get homesick every time the soccer season starts ! Thats all folks ! :-)
