The Grammys were dead boring !

I watched the grammys last night, what a boring show –so boring I turned off in the end !

 

I know Im not a spring chicken anymore (mid 40s) but I feel sorry for the younger generation

 

They have no “Characters” in music anymore –when I was growing up we had real musicians

 

People who were great songwriters-Lennon/McCartney, Jagger Richards, Mercury,May,Deacon,taylor, etc

 

Today the 20 somethings don’t have  a Keith Richards or Mick Jagger. They don’t have a Lennon/Mccartney

 

They have no Led Zeppelin, no Pink Floyd, no Rolling stones, or Queen or Bowie or Elton etc

 

What do they have ? Beyonce-  Christina Aguilera , Michael Buble etc etc

 

(If she was on her game and back in top flight-Whitney Houston could sing Beyonce right off the stage)

 

 

On the other hand a few that Do shine are  mary J, John Legend and john Meyer,Alicia Keys

 

but on the whole-Boring !!

 

(yes im older but I DO know good music and REAL musicians)

I'm almost 30 and I agree with you for the most part. It was nice seeing The Police open up the show. I liked seeing John Mayer and Corrine Bailey Rae perform together (I'm not such a fan of John Legend). But no one else really interested me. I watched the first hour then tuned out to watch Rome on HBO.

I'm not such a fan of Top 20 music today, as you say, not much originality left. I listen to my IPod and XM Radio.

I agree that Whitney WOULD blow Beyonce of the stage,, that girl can not sing.. Miriah sings better then her... and when i Heard Christina A i thought i was going to cry, i could not understand a word she was screamin..
on the other hand The Dixie Chicks ROCKED!

Awards shows tend to bore me senseless. It's just a bunch of Hollywierdos patting themselves on the back. Snore.

I was also wondering who the chickie dix paid off to get all those awards. Yes, that is a pretty powerful song and they are entitled to their opinions but it surely wasn't worthy of so many awards, there were much better deserving people out there.

As for Carrie Underwood...I haven't backed too many of the AI winners, but this girl can sing!! She has got a great voice and a great attitude, I hope the business doesn't corrupt her!!

Grammys are ALWAYS boring except when Ozzy or Metallica win one. Or a classic like Tony Bennet. I agree that there’re no charismatic Rock Stars these days. The last wave that showed promise was the “Third Eye Blind” and “Linkin Park” days that kind of quietly died out. Kind of 1-2 Album Wonders. There’ve been a few great voices/musicians like Vanessa Carlton & Michelle Branch … but they’re not BIG personalities. When I want to see a great Rock performance these days, I go to EPCOT’s Food Fest – Kansas, Loverboy, & the Beatles Cover Band. Or I ride Rock N RollerCoaster (Arrowsmith!). Wish I could travel back in time to the 60s (Monkeys, Herman’s Hermits, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Beatles!, Elvis!), some of the 70s (Elton John, Jim Croce, … Donna Summer, Bee Gees I guess, Sabbath!), & the 80s (too many to list)!!!

Yeah, Carrie UnderWear is the ONLY American Lounge Lizard winner who is studio quality (although I'm not a Country fan ... well I have to admit that I LOVED Olivia Newton John in her early days of Country "Please Mr. Please", "Honestly Love You", "Please Don't Keep Me Waiting" - Awesome tunes and not Twangy-Hold-Your-Nose Country ... she was also great in Grease & even ... yes ... the "Let's Get Physical" days!).

Hey FloridaBrit, do you remember Donna Summer? "Bad Girls"? Loved her & her music.

I liked when Gnarles Barkley sung. I watched that part 3 times. Then I printed out the lyrics and watched it again! The song is really deep. I recommend to look up the lyrics to Gnarles Barkley "Crazy".

Thats cause music sucks these days. No one really learns to play their instruments well enough and all the singers lip-sync live cause they can't sing. All their studio vocals are corrected in the studio. And most don't even write their material, they have paid writers doing that. So in essence it's liek hirign an actor to play a part onstage. As for Gnarles Barkley and all those other un-music acts, well.... rap is crap.

I want to drive an Aston Martin Vanquish but at this moment drive a car a lot less expensive !! I like flying with Microsoft flight simulator, and online gaming with Half Life. I love living here -could it be better?-sure but it could also be a lot worse. I get homesick every time the soccer season starts ! Thats all folks ! :-)
