Los Angeles , CA - The MPAA is lobbying congress to push through a new bill that would make unauthorized home theaters illegal. The group feels that all theaters should be sanctioned, whether they be commercial settings or at home.

The MPAA defines a home theater as any home with a television larger than 29" with stereo sound and at least two comfortable chairs, couch, or futon. Anyone with a home theater would need to pay a $50 registration fee with the MPAA or face fines up to $500,000 per movie shown.

"Just because you buy a DVD to watch at home doesn't give you the right to invite friends over to watch it too. That's a violation of copyright and denies us the revenue that would be generated from DVD sales

That is insane. It's just like when the music industry tried to blame Napster for their lack of sales. What about the fact that they don't have artists that can actually produce an entire album of good music anymore? It's the same thing with movies. Most of 'em suck. Anyway, most of the copy right warnings only say that you can't make a copy of the DVD or CHARGE people to watch it with you.

I guess it doesn't effect me anyway, my largest TV is only 20".

Brit. Buy a projection system that projects the picture on a screen. you plug your dvd-vcr,tuner into it and can watch shows without a tv. that would cut the wind out of mpaas sails! NO TV, NO FEE!!! MY screen is 76" diagonal and is beautiful. P.S. I'm first gen American,Dad was a Scottish immigrant, shows up on the thrifty side LOL.

I just measured my wall which I have a projection on. Its a 10' tall by 15' wide wall. Let those ****************** MPAA peopld try to make me pay for mine. They will see a fight they wont win.

They'll never win that one, it's just too far out there in gonzo land.
What will be next if it passes? You can only cook for 4 people at a time with your gas grill, or else you need a license to operate a restaurant?

This is just another case of Californication...Too many flakey people on meds trying to tell the rest of us what to do.

I like family time,good friends,Music, Nature, Soccer. I am a supporter of Manchester United F.C. I appreciate the fine female form in all races ! I dont like sexism,racism, any kind of 'ism ! I want to drive an Aston Martin Vanquish but at this moment drive a car a lot less expensive !! I like flying with Microsoft flight simulator, and online gaming with Half Life. I love living here -could it be better?-sure but it could also be a lot worse. I get homesick every time the soccer season starts ! Thats all folks ! :-)
