If you saw the calories listed on the menu at your favorite fast food joint, would it make you change your eating habits?

On Tuesday, trend-setting, health-conscious California became the first U.S. state to require fast-food restaurant chains to list calories on their menus.

The state estimates that residents collectively have gained 360 million pounds (165 million kg) in the last decade, and it sees the calorie count as one way to stem the obesity epidemic.

A calorie information rule took effect in New York City this year, and more than a dozen states are considering similar health code provisions.

Starting July 1 next year, chains with more than 20 locations must offer brochures with calorie and nutritional information. By January 1, 2011, they must list calorie information on menus and indoor menu boards.

Tell us what you think!

Pictures speak louder than words. If we really want to make a difference try putting a picture of a Arnold next to the healthy items and Rosanne Barr beside the french frys.

Makes no difference to me, my family doesn't eat fast food, unless an occasional sub from Publix or Subway is considered fast food! I'm actually more concerned about the FOOD HANDLING in those fast food "joints", than I am about the calories, anyway!

I could be wrong but don't they already have calories, fat, carbs etc. on the boxes of food we eat from the store? They have done that for years.......does that make a difference? For some, maybe but for the average American no! I think fast food serves its purpose for some.

I like the idea of making fast food chains list calories and nutrition information. It's just good information to have available to those who want the information.
