We've been telling you about the new variable speed limit signs being activated today along I-4 in the downtown area which are supposed to help ease congestion. Do you think slowing traffic to as little as 30 miles per hour on the highway will really help, or create more of a problem? Tell us what you think.

I see it as creating a major problem. Drivers are not paying attention as it is now and to have a car slow down in front of you will only cause a rear end collision. I do not have an answer for the problem, but this one don't make it either.

I think this is an excellent idea. I would like to see them implement this in other areas. For instance, when I dine out I would like them to bring me one bean at a time in my three bean salad, and when I take an elevator I would like it to always stop on every single floor, and when I buy a book I would like them to mail me the pages one at a time.

On second thought I think this is the kind of idea that only works on paper.

Get rid of that stupid on ramp that merges into the fast lane. How idiotic is that?

This idea works in the UK, and has been put in place in London and Birmingham where there is severe traffic congestion. However the key point is that the police need to enforce speed limit for every vehicle. In the UK this is done by setting speed cameras in overhead gantry’s that take the average speed of the vehicle within the variable speed limit zone. I am not sure if this has been set up on the I-4 but without enforcing the speed limit and then punishing offenders drivers won’t slow down.

...Its a terrible idea and the intent is clear 1 to generate money with tickets and 2 to make traffic even worse to sell the toll road idea that the county wants so badly! ...I see that I must point out (again) that this is NOT Europe and emulating the way in witch they “after the fact” managed out of control traffic on former goat cart trails is an idiotic idea ! We have the room/time to actually manage our traffic and not just slap bandages on problems after the fact .

If I were a TOURON (not a tourist or a moron but a touron) it would really mess me up. Most freeways in America allow you to drive between 50-70 m.p.h. but at least we have no tourists in central Florida.

slowing traffic down will do absolutely no good. people will ignore the speed limit anyway. the best way to keep traffic moving is to raise the speed limit.
