Do you remember your 8th birthday?  Maybe you had cupcakes in class or sent out birthday invitations for a party at home?

An 8 year old Swedish boy handed out birthday party invitations at school ... then had them confiscated.  He was accused of discrimination.

It turns out that two boys in the classroom didn't get an invitation -- one boy had bullied the kid, and the other had not invited him to his birthday party.

The father of the boy was so upset that he filed a complaint with Parliament.

What's a parent to do?  Hand out invitations at school, or mail them out to spare feelings?

"The newspaper Sydsvenskan quotes officials as saying they had a duty to prevent discrimination." (quoted from seperate news source)

I wonder how often this kind of thing happens here? Ridiculous charges of discrimination... its not just for the Americans anymore.

That is a different country so the rules might be different there.

In the end the school district is going to decide what to do. While this happened in Sweden it is still an issue no matter where you live --Sweden or--- Maitland.

I always say... if they don't want you at their party... why would you want to be there?

I thought the libs were isolated in this country. Guess I was wrong. What a shame when a kid can't be a kid anymore. The parents of those two kids need to get a life. Or is it the media coverage they were looking for?

"Good morning class. Today we're going to learn how to over react and at the same time cost our government millions of dollars."

oh please...give me a break...different country or not...who is the SCHOOL to tell me or my child who they can invite to their b-day party...especially if they know one is a bully and the other one didn't invite overstepping bounds as far as i'm concerned...but after the confescation fiasco i'd prolly give out invites JUST off school property...ah pooh!!! i too would discriminate against buttholes who didn't like me too and have..bump 'em!!!

I just vaigly remember by 8th birthday but I do remember my brothers 6th birthday! He invited his whole class to his at the Jacksonville Zoo!

The thing here is you can't make everyone happy and you shouldn't have too either because it's not their birthday...it's yours and you can invite anyone you would want there to celebrate it. One thing I do know is you don't need an invitation card when you could also get a verbal invite as well or just show up as a party crasher! As the saying goes, "It's MY party and I'll do what I want too", and it has nothing to do with the school or anyone else but the birthday boy...HE is the host and HE will invite whom ever HE wants too and the school and everyone else can bugger off!

I just don't believe the issue of discrimination...hey this happens all the times, certain kids bring in invitations and some just DON'T get any ..TOO BAD...why would someone want to take their kids to a party THEY ARE NOT WANTED IN ANYWAYS......I think the parents are being THE FOOLISH ones here and showing a bad example to a child.

Brevard Elementary Schools already have this policy. Invite the whole class or don't hand any out at all

Oh-oh, I went out with friends Saturday night and didn't invite anyone here to come. Someone call the cops, no wait call the lawyers!!

Maybe they should study the Golden Rule little more, Do unto others. If you want to be invited to someone else's party, they should be invited to yours. If you want friends, then don't be a bully.
