Weather delays, security concerns and engine trouble are all things you'd expect might cancel a flight. But what if a pilot just isn't in the mood to fly?  It happened.

United Airlines cancelled a flight from Salt Lake City to Denver on Thursday after the pilot told the passengers he was "too upset" to fly.

After an hour-and-a-half delay, the pilot announced that he had been in a verbal fight with another pilot before boarding the plane and was too angry to safely fly the plane.  All passengers were booked on other flights.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? A GOOD REASON TO SCRUB A FLIGHT? OR SHOULD THE PILOT HAVE BEEN FORCED TO GET OVER IT...AND FLY ANYWAY?

better it was scrapped than to endanger the lives of passengers .
Dont they have backup pilots on call?

I applaud the pilot in realizing when he is not 100%. Flying requires a great deal of concentration and having a pilot that is distracted mentally could lead to problems. KUDOs! Its to bad auto drivers don't realize this.

I know I would not want to be on that flight. I could just see it now, an announcement comes over the p a system asking if anyone knows how to fly a plane. I think they should raise the cost of those tickets a little more so they can give all the pilots anger managment training.

I agree with FloridaBrit. It seems lately with miscues that Airlines don't have a backup system for piolts. I thought their would be a better system in place. Because what happens if a Piolt becomes very sick right before departure? I'm sure their is a rhyme and reason to it though.

It was an admirable thing for the Pilot to put safety first,, foremost and paramount in his decision BUT he will NO doubt rightfully face a review of his qualifications and mental stability over this..

Imagine if you will how he would handle a crises at 35,000 ft. with say,, a disagreeable passenger or a disgruntled flight attendent..

THERE,, he would NOT have had the options that were available to him on the ground..

I'm thinking if this pilot is too much of a hot head to focus on his job (flying the plane) and worry about his squabble with another pilot later...he should consider another career.

Instead of canceling the flight, why not bring in a different pilot. A business including airlines should be prepared to honor contracts/tickets as closely to their terms as possible.

What if a pilot has a heart attack and dies during a flight? It would be difficult to cancel the flight at that time.
The modern passenger jets can practically fly and land themselves and are not nearly as dependent on pilots.

Well I would say make him fly anyway, but as to security reasons...WHO ON EARTH WANTS A DAM PILOT FLYING IN THIS CONDITION..just like a surgeon who is upset about finding out his wife was fooling around.....NO THANKS...not today.......lol

Considering the Financial realities of the Airline Industy these days,, THAT which one would normally consider a reasonable course of action or precaution might easily be deemed an unecasssary expense to the Airline itself..

You shouldn't drive when you're upset, and you certainly shouldn't fly when you're upset. He may have saved many lives, by using good judgement.

Yes indeed gammies but he nevertheless caused the company not a little expense and some bad PR..

While WE may rightfully applaud his decision the company may question the outcome...

NOT saying it's right or wrong,, JUST pointing out the obvious..LMAO..

I'm sure the company will find a way to punish him, if they deem it necessary. If I'm arguing with someone, I definitely don't want to be riding with them. It's not safe for them. LMAO

To be angry is human. Maybe he was too angry to fly but not too angry to make a wise decision. I repect his honesty even though the situation made him look bad and may cost him professionally. If it is a pattern of behavoir, then it become a more serious issue.
