Ellen DeGeneres says it's all her fault.

She's made a tearful public appeal to a pet rescue agency to return a dog to her hairdresser's family.

The talk show hostess adopted the dog -- a Brussels Griffon mix named Iggy -- from a rescue group last month. But the situation didn't work out. On her show aired today, DeGeneres said Iggy was too rambunctious and didn't get along with her cats.

DeGeneres said she felt that her hairdresser, who has two daughters, would be able to give the dog a loving home.

But the problem developed when the rescue agency, Mutts and Moms, called to ask how Iggy was doing. DeGeneres says she learned then that by not informing the agency that she was giving the dog away, she had violated the adoption agreement. The agency, according to DeGeneres, went to the hairdresser's home and took the dog back.

Saying she feels "totally responsible," a tearful DeGeneres begged the agency to return the dog to the family. She says the girls had bonded with Iggy and were now heartbroken.

True, Ellen broke the rules, but come on now. It's not like the dog was being abused. Give the dog back to the family that obviously loves it. I don't see what the big deal is.

The big deal is that an agency that rescues animals from abusive situations had the dog and released it to Ellen's care after consideration of the situation. They know nothing of the situation that Ellen was putting the dog back into. This is a situation of an 'entertainment' 'celebrity' using the bully pulpit to tug on heartstrings. She signed an agreement when she accepted the dog and did not live up to it. It is very simple, you're right Ellen, you messed up! Now live with it and accept the responsibility for your actions. These organizations are there for a reason, I know, we have a dog from a rescue organization and had to undergo very careful scrutiny prior to being accepted.

What about people who just dump unwanted pets every single day? We just dont hear about them. This is only a big deal b/c it's a celeb and she did this on the air. The family should keep the dog.

I heard about this on the News. People say why did Ellen get so upset? Maybe the Fact that the Agency took the Dog away from a Young Girl who loved the Dog. I mean what harm is it? That Agency is mean for doing that. They Threatened to call the Media, Cops & So forth. I mean who the hell do they think they are? The Family deserves the Dog back!

Wow! This has got to be the most important news blip of the picosecond. Ok it seems to me that a dog is aquired legally by Ellen then she owns the dog. She should be able to give the dog away if she wants to(for whatever reason)as long as the dog isn't being abused or used for illegal activity.

Sounds like BS from this shelter/rescue agency. They might have needed 15 minutes of fame, so they took something which no longer belonged to them. That is a lot of money to have spent on this dog. Maybe Ellen should sue them for stealing her dog.

Did anyone notice the lisp? Bad sound, or does Ellen have a lisp when she cries?

Ellen has a right to be upset. She should have known what she had signed, but never the less, it was her dog and does that mean that she can never give the dog to another family, ever? This shelter has made a bad judgment taking the puppy away from children and these actions could hurt them in the long run for adopting any more pets.
Gammies, I think she was so chocked up and upset that she could hardly get the words out. I felt bad for her, she truly was hurt about it.

PattieP, I heard this on TV the other day, and there wasn't a lisp. I was clowning. I think the sound just came across poorly. Sorry, I know she was hurt because of the rescue peoples actions. I didn't mean to disrespect her.

Gammies, I listened a few more times with and without my hearing aid and there is something there. Maybe bad sound or she has spit in her cheeks. I love clowns... : )

Oh, boo hoo Ellen. You wanted to get some brownie points, then dump the dog because it was inconvenient. Dog doesn't get along with cat. Big surprise. Get caught. Then use the bully pulpit to play for forgiveness with those crocodile tears. The shelter did the right thing. Their genuine concern was for the rescued dog.

Well unfortunately the contract says they have to have the dog back. And she should have read it. For me it was fortunate that I had to give the dog back and it had a place to go to. I adopted a dog once and this dog was so out of control and untrainable that I was glad that was in the contract to give the dog back. This dog was so skiddish, non trusting and chewed up everything, wouldn't settle down at all. It will all pass with these girls they are grown I think from what I saw. But now it's turning into a threatening mess, unbelievable.

Ok, so, out of curiosity, what happens to the dog in the meantime? Is it still sitting in the shelter?

Can't believe that RESCUE RELEASE that Dog without being Neutered/ Spayed and charging 650.00 for what. We charge $150 and all of our dogs are spayed/neuter, Up to date on shot, Vet ck'd, Temperment tested, had Basic Obedence, crate trained..But should you not be able to keep the dog, contact us and we do a home Check, Vet Check, Ref Check for the new home and then transfer the contract to the new Home

I understand Ellen did violate the rules when she gave the dog to the other family without informing the shelter but this little girl loves this dog and they were taking care of it and the dog was being taken care of and loved. Thats all the dog wanted so I feel there should be certain circumstances where they should consider and why don'tthe shelter do a home visit with that family and see they are okay then the dog can go back. I am also with rottweiler7575, why did they release this dog to start with without a spay/neuter. Rescues are just that, rescues and this is the first I have heard of a rescue NOT altering the dog. I think the family who took the dog need to be screened then if they pass, the dog can be returned.

Simply put, get over it and move on. Yep, the child is sad and Ellen is upset but Ellen has learned a valuable lesson about the rescue center and knowing the rules of what youa agree too. I'm not being mean just saying the the animal rescue place may get more negative then they ever bargained for and I could actually see Ellen back on the news telling her dedcated watchers to "back off" of the shelter with their anger. Things have a way of working out in the end. A Huge Lesson learned. And to the idiot that think's dogs and cats do not get along you must have never owed both at the same time. They can get along and many do these just happened not too.

First, I do not agree with Mutts and Moms charging 650.00 and then expect Ellen to pay for the vet care and spay of this dog. This would only encourage people to purchases dogs from backyard breeders and heaven knows, if backyard breeders tool responsibility, there would be no need for rescues.

Legitimate rescues, such as mine, has the animals vetted, spay/neutered, heartworm treatment, any surgeries, medications, obedience training, temperament test to place the dog in the right home and so on done before the dog is even placed up for adoption and our adoption donation is a "fraction" of Mutts and Moms. We are all volunteers and our adoption donations go strictly to the animals and their care. It would appear Mutts and Moms find this to be a business for "profit" and how discussing and sad for the animals.

Had Ellen checked the rescue out first, then perhaps she would not have had a bad experience. Ellen having to pay 650.00 and then the vetting and spay should have been a red flag to Ellen. Had she research the breed, she would not have adopted this breed, nor should the rescue have placed this breed with her.

Legitimate rescues are wonderful and we take great pride in placing our animals in loving homes to prevent the dog from ending up in a bad situation. Yes, we have long applications, we check references, and talk with their vet, introduction, do home visits before and after adoption. We do this because we care deeply for the animals we rescue and place. Many of these animals come from abusive backgrounds and we do not want to place them in

Ellen broke the rules and should stay out of the business of the agency. What happens to the dog is no longer her affair or business.

If she cared so much about the dog she would have been a bit more responsible about assessing the situation with her cats before placing them all together.....why didn't she get rid of the cats if she loves the dog so much?

There is little doubt that she will "win" by manipulating the public to exert pressure on the agency. However it is sad that the public is so easily duped by such a irresponsible narcissist. The agency rescues dogs, who cares more about the dog Ellen or the agency?

I like Ellen a lot but c'mon, this is crazy. She messed up. I wish that the agency would have given the dog back, but if I would have had to go through what the people at the agency are going through ( death threats, constant calls...) I would have said the hell with everyone too. Anyway to see what I really think go to
