'American Idol' Flap: Barba Vs. Frenchie

Frenchie Davis, dumped by "American Idol" in 2003 for lingerie shots posted on a Web site, moved on to Broadway success and thought she had buried a humiliating chapter of her young life.

That changed in the last few days after contestant Antonella Barba was allowed to stay on the top-rated Fox series despite the emergence of racy online photos that purport to be of Barba, but with no verification.

The first big controversy of the show's sixth season swelled Tuesday when fans and a civil-rights activist rallied to Davis' side, saying she was the victim of unfair and potentially biased treatment. Davis is black; Barba is white. 

FOX 35 wants to know what you think.

Well what if theres more too it?. What if theres more stuff not told about them. I dont think they could be a racist.

It's a GAME SHOW. The producers have total control. What they say goes. They make the rules and can interpret them anyway they want. Besides, Barba will be booted off Idol soon enough. Her singing is nowhere near top of the pack.

Until the pics are verified, there is no justification for her removal. If they are verified to be true, then yes she should be dumped.

Any Idol contestants that have controvery surrounding them of any type should be removed from the show. Frenchie was the first to be booted for racey photos and Antonella should go just as she did or I do believe we may have a race issue. Is she still there because she LOOKS like a good all american girl? Come on Idol producers don't we all know looks can be decieving.

I agree with O-town Racer … producers of the show DO have control over the idols image, what shows they perform in & what interviews they give.

I really hope Barba is voted off soon … not because of her racy pictures, but because of her ability. She falls WAY short of the other girls. Voters, it’s a “singing” contest, not a “modeling” contest. I know she’s pretty, but that alone doesn’t cut it in this competition. Luckily, the voters who keep putting Barba through to the next round haven’t affected the final outcome. The frontrunners are still in the competition.

I don’t have a problem with the pictures personally, but I think if you kick one person off you should kick the other off too. That is, if Barba’s photos are verified. The difference between Frenchie and Barba’s photos is that Frenchie’s photos were professional photos for an adult magazine.

What happens if Barba makes it to the top 12, then those photos are verified and Barba gets kicked off? Will they bring back one of the other contestants or go with the top 11 for the Idol tour?

I left one thing out ... an "American Idol" is someone that kids everywhere look up to and I think they should conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. I know pictures were taken before Idol, but it just goes to show you that you should always do the right thing ... thn you'll never have to worry about skeletons in your closet.

Antonella only stays on the show because she's hot and wears one pieces that almost ride up and over her bottom. She's young, skinny, pretty, and she's a terrible singer. Forget this debate and please do not vote for her because she's a terrible singer and there are better less snotty alternatives and I personally don't wanna see her ruin another celine or mariah song ever again.

come on people, if each and everyone of us had people looking into our closets we'd all be freaking out ... we ALL have done something of some sort at some time or another ... (including you government people, shall we open up your closets??? guess we'd better not or you'd be out of a job) BUT anyways, i agree Antonella will probably be out of there soon enough anyways ... but then again this competition seems to be turning out to not be on the singing obviously since the ones who could sing have been voted out ...

Maybe Frenchie was voted off previously because the show was still so new and they didn't know how else to handle it. Now that the show has been on for 6 seasons, they're letting more stuff slide??? Just a thought.

From what I heard about Frenchie, she had an actual website that was considered soft core,you know what - Antonella on the other hand -from what I've heard - has not exposed anything that should be kept private - I personally don't like Antonella, as she is very annoying and transparent - but we all have fun, or so we think, and make mistakes - young & old

Dont be mad at me. Frenchy got fired because she was morbid obese. If you see her pictures vs the Anto girl you can see it isnt a race thing. She is a great person and nice person and made the bad decision to make money. But those fotos were pretty bad. It is a discrimination thing but not race ... it is FAT.
