BOISE, Idaho -- To the dismay of fellow Republicans, Sen. Larry Craig launched a determined drive to save his seat on Wednesday, vowing to stay in office if allowed to withdraw his guilty plea in a men's room sex sting.

Craig's campaign suffered an instant setback, however, when the ethics committee refused to set aside a complaint lodged against him. "Pending Sen. Craig's resignation, the committee will continue to review this matter," the committee's senior senators wrote.New Audio: Sen. Craig's Voice

Craig's decision to deploy his legal team marked a reversal of his pledge to resign on Sept. 30, and raised the possibility of a protracted legal and political struggle, much of it playing out in public, with gay sex at its core.

Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Michael Vick indefinitely without pay, just hours after Vick filed a plea agreement that portrayed him as less involved than three co-defendants and guilty mainly of poor judgment for associating with them.

Vick acknowledged bankrolling gambling on the dogfights, but denied placing bets himself or taking any of the winnings. He admitted that dogs not worthy of the pit were killed "as a result of the collective efforts" of himself and two co-defendants.

Goodell wasn't moved and didn't bother to wait until Monday, when U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson will formally accept the plea and set a sentencing date likely to land Vick in prison for one to five years.

A 15-year old from Alaska gets a ticket, hops a plane and flies all the way to North Carolina!

Her parents blame the airline and demand a policy change. They claim their daughter got on the plane without ever showing an I.D. and she didn't have their permission to fly.

The girl met another high school kid on myspace and wanted to meet him.

The reason for no I.D. check: the Transportation Security Administration only requires it for passengers 18 and up.

Should the airline take some of the blame for the teen's trip?

The NAACP says Michael Vick should be allowed to return to the NFL, preferably the Atlanta Falcons, after serving his sentence for his role in a dogfighting operation.

"As a society, we should aid in his rehabilitation and welcome a new Michael Vick back into the community without a permanent loss of his career in football."

"We further ask the NFL, Falcons, and the sponsors not to permanently ban Mr. Vick from his ability to bring hours of enjoyment to fans all over this country."

Hurricane Dean, now a category 5 storem is roaring toward the oil installations of the Yucatan Peninsula. Mexico's state oil company, Petroleos de Mexico, said it was evacuating all of its more than 14,000 offshore workers in the southern Gulf of Mexico, which includes the giant Cantarell oil field.

The storm was expected to slash across the Yucatan and emerge in the Gulf of Campeche, where Petroleos de Mexico decided Monday to shut down production on the offshore rigs that extract most of the nation's oil.

Shutting the 407 oil wells in the Campeche Sound will result in a production loss of 2.7 million barrels of oil and 2.6 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day, Pemex said. Of that, about 1.7 million barrels of oil a day is exported from three Gulf ports, where Pemex was loading the final tankers before shutting them as well.

Do you plan on filling up now before gas prices go up?

Superintendent Will Recommend Abstinence Based Curriculum with Additional Information

VIERA- Brevard Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Richard A. DiPatri  announced that he will recommend to the Brevard County School Board on Aug. 14 a list of modifications to the District's Human Sexuality High School Curriculum.

"After careful consideration of this issue, I am recommending that the District renew its commitment to an abstinence based policy, but with some updated materials designed to appropriately educate our students on this very important topic," DiPatri said.

His specific recommendations include:

-Purchase and implement the ancillary material, Sexuality and Responsibility, by Holt, Rinehart and Winston, for student and teacher use. The supplement is designed to accompany the district adopted textbook for use in the Life Management Skills or H.O.P.E. course in grades 9 - 12.

-Implement the curriculum without the use of outside speakers and reflect this district position in all curriculum materials.

-Revise appropriate pages in the existing Human Sexuality High School Curriculum Guide to reflect updated, more complete information.

-Implement Brevard Public Schools' abstinence based program which is founded on accurate information.

-Provide required professional development for teachers annually to support the implementation of the district's human sexuality curriculum. The initial training opportunity will be on Sept. 17, District Professional Development Day.

-Create a series of 10-12 detailed lesson plans using the guide, text, and ancillary material to support teacher implementation and delivery of the district curriculum.

-Implement an active consent procedure for participation in the district's Human Sexuality Curriculum. Students must submit a consent form properly signed by a parent/guardian which indicates whether or not the parent approves the student's participation in the program.

The Human Sexuality Curriculum Guide 2005 is a revision to the 1997 and 1992 Human Sexuality Curriculum Guides. The 2005 Guide was developed by a summer task team and has updated materials and resources primarily for teacher use. The guide, as revised and used in concert with the newly adopted textbook, Lifetime Health, and supplement, Sexuality and Responsibility, support the delivery of Brevard's abstinence-based curriculum and will provide program fidelity as well as accurate information.

Is "abstinence only" the best sex-ed plan or should educators be more frank about protection and birth control?

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- NASA discovered a worrisome gouge on Endeavour's belly soon after the shuttle docked with the international space station Friday, possibly caused by ice that broke off the fuel tank a minute after liftoff. The gouge -- about 3 inches square -- was spotted in zoom-in photography taken by the space station crew shortly before the linkup.

On Sunday, the astronauts will inspect the area, using the 100-foot robot arm and extension beam. Lasers on the end of the beam will gauge the exact size and depth of the gouge, Shannon said, and then engineering analyses will determine whether the damage is severe enough to warrant repairs.

The astronauts have three methods for repairing tile damage, if necessary: They could apply black paint, screw on a protective plate, or squirt in goo.

If the gouge is deemed serious and cannot be fixed, the shuttle astronauts would have to remain at the space station. They have more than two months of supplies with them, and a rescue shuttle could be launched by early October.

DO YOU HAVE FAITH IN NASA TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND BRING ENDEAVOUR'S CREW HOME SAFELY.

Apparently, bad is good when it comes to your boss. A new study presented to the Academy of Management in Philadelphia today revealed that many bosses who make their subordinates miserable, never get punished and even get promoted!

That doesn't surprise Associate Dean, Steve Gauthier, of the Rollins College Rrummer Graduate School of Business. He says, " If you're getting good results, and that's how you manage people, and that's how you get good results, than you're probably going to get noticed. People above, the senior managers, are really looking for results. They're not interested in who you're stepping on along the way. "

But he says sooner or later, it can to catch up to them because in a downturn, bad bosses are often the first to go.

Have you had a bad boss go unpunished? Did he or she even get promoted?

Ambassador programs throughout the country have been an effective tool to promote hospitality and provide additional eyes and ears for community policing. Now the City of Orlando is pondering such a plan.

Patrolling on Segways and equipped with two-way radios, area maps, and general information, the "Downtown Ambassadors" will direct lost tourists, radio police as necessary, provide public infrastructure damage reports, or offer outreach to homeless individuals. The goal is to create a friendly, helpful, and safe Downtown environment.

The funding for the Program is estimated at $893,000

What do you think about the city spending almost a million bucks for an ambassador program?
