FORTY-GRAND FOR COCOA.

THAT'S WHAT THE ORANGE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL SHELL OUT TO ONE OF ITS STUDENTS.

THIS COMES AFTER A GIRL WAS BURNED BY SOME HOT CHOCOLATE THAT HER TEACHER HAD GIVEN HER BACK IN 2006.

THE GIRL.. WHO'S NOW EIGHT.. RECEIVED SECOND DEGREE BURNS FROM THE COCOA... AND HAD TO HAVE SURGERY.

The school shouldn't have been forced to pay. They should have had the class to stand up and pay the hospital bills in the first place.

"Uncocabelievable"? What does that word mean? It's not found in the English dictionary.

The child was burned bad enough to have surgery. Maybe the teacher should not have given a 6 yr old hot cocoa. $40K really is not that much considering what this child had to go through.
I don't believe this to be frivolous.

It's a legal term joe. It means really crazy. LOL

Outlaw hot drinks! I'm sure one of our idiots will sign the bill.

It says that the little girl had to have surgery and she was just a little girl. I like Captain Jims answer that they should have paid the money Before they were forced to. I bet if something happened to your kids you would be the first one in line for a lawyer. My dad says the woman that got all that money for the hot coffee knew it was hot but this little girl was to young to know all of that.

I'm sorry but I really don't understand how this girl got burned from cocoa! It's something that every kids & adults drinks except those who are allergic! Could we please get a refresher bulliton? Did the teacher through it on this girl? I'm confused!

I guess there's really no reason we need to understand how it happened BTBW. The fact that she was hurt because of something that happened in school and it was to the point where she had to have surgery should be good enough. I'm just upset that the school most likely wasted at least a hundred thousand dollars in lawyer fees fighting a 40k bill. That's the real issue here.

I have a nephew that knocked over my cup of hot coffee onto himself when he was 3yrs old. The hospital flew him to the Akron children's burn unit. He still has the scars on his chest at 30. He had to undergo skin graphs and a lot of pain from just one hot cup of coffee on his tender skin. So I can relate to this story and how awful it must have been for the child and family.

Give me some of that cocoa, I will dump it on myself and you wont have to pay me 40K. Parents probably saw dollar signs and made the kid have surgery.

Remember the McDonald's lawsuit several years ago?

I've had hot coffee spill on me because of someone that knocked into the table I was sitting...do I sue the place I got the coffee or the person that knocked into the table causing the spill giving me a coffee burn and coffee stain on my clothes?

What is hot cocoa, a hot chocolate beverage that may require to be cooled down before drinking....blow on it! Accidents happen and sometimes spills does occure and it could happen to anyone. So how the girl got the burns in the first place is the question I am asking.

Yes, Elizabeth WHO COULD FORGET THE MCDONALD INCIDENT IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE "NEW" BE CAREFUL....CONTENTS MAY BE "HOT" CUPS.....LOL...

THEY STILL DON'T WORK. This is very suspect...as to how this little girl GOT SO BADLY BURN....BOO IS CORRECT..A TEACHER WOULDN'T GIVE A PIPING HOT DRINK TO ANY CHILD????

Why have common sense when you can sue?
Kids in school KNOW hot cocoa is just that HOT, same with adults..problem here is nobody uses their dang BRAIN.
I gotta learn how to bilk the system...Is there a class somewhere or something? Cause anytime I try to get assistance I get turned away! The bilk thing just isnt working for me.........
