So.. Orlando City Commissioners will vote on approving the funding to get this off the ground.

Red-light cameras at 10 intersections in Orlando.

If they approve this today.. you could be slapped with $125 fine (owner of the car)

The violation will be treated like parking tickets.. no points will be docked from your driver's license.

How do you like them apples??

Pic's of the drivers should be required, and if you dispute the charges, you should have the right to have the judge determine if it was you.
*Your car gets stolen, before you report it, you also get cited for running a light* talk about insult to injury.
better yet
* I borrow your car, with permission, and you are responsible for my running the light?*

you loan your wheels to an irresponsible driver you deserve what you get. tickets, fines, possible confiscation of vehicle, especially if the idiot you (loan) it to has a revoked license!you should also be held liable for any damage the loanee does with your vehicle, cause without it he couldn't have done it. driving is a PRIVILEGE NOT A RIGHT, so drive responsibly, and loan your vehicle to a responsible driver as well or face the consequences.

$125???? Then why are there signs where these cameras ARE ALREADY IN USE that state: "Running a Red Light will cost you $183.50!" And these are posted in Winter Park, Casselberry, Orlando, Maitland, Sanford, etc., etc.

So I'm confused, are they now REDUCING the fine from $183.50 to $125? I would not think so!

I agree, FINES should be HIGHER and POINTS should be assessed! And if it's a BUSINESS VEHICLE, DOUBLE the FINE and the POINTS!

BTW: Are you aware that you can be fined the same for driving across the railroad tracks where the GATES ARE NOT fully up and the Crossing FLASHERS are still flashing!

You SHOULD ALWAYS wait until these things are completely OFF before proceeding across the tracks, especially if there are MORE than ONE SET of tracks!

Why?

$1. A train COULD be coming the other way and the first train may block your view from seeing it.

#2. These crossing signals DO have a tendency to malfunction or ghost AFTER the train has cleared and the gate may come right back down again ON TOP of your hood, windshield or roof. And guess what, YOU, the driver ARE RESPONSIBLE for any damages that occur to BOTH YOUR vehicle and the CROSSING SIGNAL if it is proven that the signal had NOT turned off completely before you proceeded! BTW: those crossing signals ARE NOT cheap either if you get slapped with the repair bill for one you might damage because you couldn't wait just a few extra seconds. And yes, I *DO* know the police are just as guilty of this action too!

I get beeped, yelled and cursed at all the time because I REFUSE to cross the tracks at ANY crossing until the gates are fully up and the signals are completely off!

And NO I have NEVER damaged one, but I have seen a few folks that have and it was their fault too.

I have a friend in California who actually processes the red light camera photos and issues the citations. She's shown me examples of how accurate a GOOD red light camera system can be. That's the key: Having the right system to do the job - and the right personel to process the tickets. If Orlando played it cheap and low-balled their system, they're just opening themselves up to failure. Do it right the first time!! And the fine is wayyyy too low and the lack of points a joke. Do it right, Orlando, or regret you ever tried.

Not that I approve of red light runners but....Look on the web and you can buy covers that go over your tag. They look like normal clear plastic but when a photo is taken it comes out so unfocused you can't make out any numbers. Power To The People! LOL.

I've known about those covers for years, but many folks don't. Yes, your tag can be read through it, but when it is photographed it can do one of two things depending on the material, it can distort and make the photo of the tag out of focus, or it can be like the glasses that change to dark tint in bright sun, the flash actually causes the material to go to almost black making an unreadable tag, but this one also does this in bright light and you could get in trouble for that one, not that you can't for the other, but the one that appears clear and distorts is a lot harder to verify UNLESS a cop has a vid camera and is taking live photo's of your vehicle and sees on his vid that your tag is distorted, then YOU'RE GONNA GET BUSTED! And is why I will place NOTHING over my tag, aside from that, SIGNAL12, chime in here if I am mistaken, I believe it is ILLEGAL to place anything, even a clear protective sheet over your vehicle state tag in Florida.
