How would you like working 4-10 hour days?  Ya or nay?

This is the trend many employers are taking to help the business cut expenses and to help employees.

Why? Mainly GAS PRICES.

What do you think????

I think you have it wrong. The few companies Ive heard of doing this are mostly doing it to save themselves costs by shutting down a day early.. Most companies could give a rats arse about employees as long as they are profitable.

on the other hand I personally enjoyed working longer days and getting more days off rather than less days and a few hours here and there..

I'd do it, too. I have no problem with long workdays. I'd also love to start very early in the morning.

I already do. We are like two people short and they still insist we don't need to hire someone else.

dks75 WRONG. Many companies switch it out where some get Monday off and others take Friday, that way the ENTIRE week is still covered, and you still only work 4 days! Lockheed Martin actually has 9 hour days and you get every other Friday off. (that makes a 10% drop in commuter expenses)

This however is NOT what Enviromental nuts actually want you to do! They talk about conservation, but when you do that in this fashion you are not purchasing "carbon credits" and you are dropping demand and the tax revenue falls.

Even though this discussion came up before, I would also like to add my prior statement here as well. As it may help other employers. My husband has been a business owner for many years with numerous employees. He believes in the employees being part of the family, involved with future planning, and letting them have input into making the business profitable. When he first started, everyone was on 4 - 10 hour shift days, when the gas situation became a problem he then allowed many of those who recommended a change do exactly just that, as many switched to 3 - 12 hour days. In doing this, everyone is happy, spends more time with their family, the coverage of the shift work is great, and even so, the business has stayed profitable enough to add an additional benefit for those who live farther away and that is to pay for a full tank a gas one time a week. The employees even added by shortening their hours by 4 hours a week, they are still making more money by saving in gas and taxes. It would be nice if more employers would take the time to listen to their employees.

Hey gang,,
here's what we found out.. just this week both the Volusia Council of Governments and the Water Authority of Volusia are working 4-10 hour days. Since they weren't able to give their employees cost of living expenses increases due to budget constraints.. they are trying to help them out a bit.
Also... The Volusia County School District will only be operating MON - THURS for the entire summer in hopes of saving on energy.
Hope this helps.
I wish I worked only 4 DAYS!!!!

I tried this and it didnt work :( believe me I wish it would. In some jobs I can see where this could work because every business owner knows "a happy employee is a productive employee"

A lot of companies I have worked for did the 4 day 10 hour week, and if we worked Friday, that was regular overtime, Saturday was double time and Sunday was triple time, when we shut down for two weeks at Christmas and they asked if you wanted (you did not have to) to work because of a special project, those two weeks were also paid at Triple Time. I made some real good $$ on the OT and the Holiday shutdowns.

Now if I could just find another job, as with everything, all good things sometimes come to an end when companies get sold, move over to *(UGH!) China or get downsized in the workforce or you just get burned out and need to move on.

no need to kill yourself-personally I prefer a 4 day 32 hour work week- thats enough work and plenty of family time.it works in europe -can work here. you work to live not live to work.

also many companies now could let you work 1 day a week etc from home but they are stuck in the 20th century mentality(My old compnay included)........

Here in Florida it seems employers want you to work to death for them at the lowest wages possible. I know I worked at a place 10 hrs a day.........with NO BREAK!!!!!NO LUNCH!!!!!!And on my feet for the duration. Needless to say I quit after 3 months, as it was affecting my health.
This is one crazy state. And getting crazier as each day goes by

Twizled, that IS ILLEGAL! You should have filed a complaint with the labor board as well as the any other agency that oversees the workplace.

I have done it to companies where I was treated that way too, guess what every single one of those moronic organizations/companies are long gone. Meant I lost my job by getting them shut down, but NO ONE deserves to be treated like that on ANY job, anywhere! And you're right on with the pay here, it SUCKS bigtime.

Everything else continues to increase in price, but shrink in size and your salary barely covers it, if at all!

I'm actually begining to really detest and hate the state(Florida) I was born and raised in due to this "right to work" crap, if it wasn't for that garbage, I think we could and would have far better living wages here.
