It's on track for final local approval.  All the major players  -- six counties (Volusia, Seminole, Orange and Osceola) expected to sign off on the $615 million deal.

We're talking about putting 61 miles of commuter rail through these counties as an alternative to adding more freeway lanes.

Orange Commissioners expected to sign off on the project Thursday.

What do you think?  Ya or nay?

A definate YES!! I-4 will never handle the projected traffic for central Florida over the next 20 years! Already, you have one minor accident on I-4 and rush hour turns into a parking lot!!

An alternative needs to be found..and now!! I'd happily take a commuter train to Orlando rather than sit in my car in traffic! I'll be able to use my laptop, read, nap...whatever!

Can't wait for this thing to get going! Just hope the people that don't think we have traffic issues here and are against it will either go away or come up with a better solution!

But putting more railways is not the answer. Just what we need, more road congestion and more people trying to out run the train causing more derailments.

Why not a monorial like in Disney, it floats above traffic and does not effect our roads. This idea also works for NY. Why not here?

Deltonian...the issue is COST...the tracks are already there and in place..the existing CSX tracks are what will be used for Commuter Rail..

Well thats just it, those tracks that are there now, are conjecting road traffic. Now where are they goning to put more? limites tracks means limited places the railway will travel. If they expand the rails, it means more road congestion.
Simple fact. Disney even showed it would be cheaper to monorial it then to install new rails to the exsiting. Disney was even going to pay for part of it but Orlando didnt like the idea of Disney running the show with them.

Six counties? Only 4 listed.
I think a rail system will be great. Now the gangs and thugs can travel to all the Central Florida counties without wasting thier own fuel. Then they can spread thier unique form of hospitality.

Take the big northern cities for example.
I guess I'm saying NAY!

Well there should be a little less car traffic except for where they are all backed up waiting for that train to finaly go by while still being empty.

hmmm decent public transportation other than limited buses ... what an idea, something we should have had put in place decades ago.

YAY! It was voted for in the ORIGINAL ELECtiON, but so many of the DIMWITS against it tried to get a "revote" on it (which I considered to be ILLEGAL, since once it was VOTED FOR, that SHOULD HAVE BEEN IT!)

As for adding tracks, TAKE THOSE DANG RAILS TO TRAILS BACK and PUT THE RAILS BACK IN PLACE! Not only would this work out better for COMMUTER RAIL, IT WOULD CUT DOWN ROAD CONGESTION, because RAIL STOPS could AND SHOULD be put in place along the neighborhods where "CADY WAY TRAIL" now resides, this would allow people to catch the COMMUTER TRAIN RIGHT IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD close to their home and WOULD NOT REQUIRE them to DRIVE to anothyer area just to PARK their car and ride the train. The IDEA was TO DISENGAGE the traffic, but by making folks drive to a parking lot next to the tracks instead of relaying trackage along these "Rails to Trails" area, we have actually accomplished nothing major!

Where are people supposed to park? Are they also going to build parking garages? Are the people that live along these tracks in those neighborhoods going to sue because of the noise? Yes something has to be done but have you ever noticed that what looks good on paper usually doesn't look so well in reality

How many of you use the bus system? Just curious. Not one of the people I know use it for various reasons. Faster to drive anyway. What is to say people are going to use the rail?

Orlando needed to focus on roads, not trains. But then again, nobody seems to know what they are doing down there anyway. I guess that is why many of us are on the way out.

Oh, and nay. They don't listen anyway so what is the point.

I really can't understand why when there is a wreck on one of these major highways it seems to take forever to get the wreck cleared. That seems to be one of the major congestion problems. There is a wreck and it takes an hour or more to get the lanes cleared. In that amount of time traffic backs up for miles

I don't know if it's a good idea or not. It kinda depends on allot of other factors. Where I grew up (Chicago suburbs) we would take the bus or walk (3miles) to the train station and take a train if we needed to go into the city. My parents always owned at least 2 cars, usually more. We could've driven if we'd wanted to. It was just less hectic to take the train.

Our busses have a SYSTEM?? first I knew of! they arrive late to tranfer spots, forcing you to wait for the next bus(usually one that runs once an hour) they don't run early enough or late enough for third shift people (yes virginia we DO operate 24/7 here in O-town) some of us even work on sundays and holidays, where are the majority of busses then? the airport runs flights in 24/7, the last bus leaves at 1030pm and doesn't reappear until 530am! if your flight comes in later than that, HAVE FUN!! either rent a car thake a cab or wake up a friend(at the wee hours in the morning I'm suure they'll appreciate that!) so where's the evidence of a transportation system. YOU WANT GRIDLOCK ON I-4 TO CEASE!! put up a toll booth at the lake monroe bridge! most of the traffic clogging I-4 comes from volusia, where they have no businesses to work at in their own county, so they trash our roads!

Apparently you do not know the Lynx Bus system too well, I *DID* and *STILL* ride it when it is more convenient and practical (usually if I'm going into downtown Orlando), and there arr many routes, Lynx 28 for example started at 5am where I used to live in Azalea Park and the last bus 28 dropped me off directly in front of my apartment where I lived as late as 1:30AM I also transfered to other buses when needed and most of these ran late as well. So I don't know where you live, but if the buses stop at 10:30pm, there either must not be very many riders in the area or the area doesn't have too many business that are open late night.

But I do agree that Lynx needs to operate 24/7 and not be changing times for Weekends or Holidays because many businesses are now open early Sunday as well as late on Sunday as well as all the Holidays. Not like it was when I was a kid, you'd be dang lucky to even find a convience store open on Sunday, let alone traffic! A Sunday Drive on HWY50 in Orlando back when I was a kid, you were lucky if you saw 4 or 5 cars on the road!

More trains more security. Just another way for certain individuals to move around the state faster for crime. since this is a given a security budget should already be in place to hire more security staff personnel. New York City has alot of crime occur on the trains. Where there are people there is crime.

wasted money, by the time they finish that rail this town will be triple in size and the commuter rail will have no efect on crowded roads, Orlando is growing too fast for the traffic to keep up, I-4 can be 8 lanes wide and we will still have the same problem, save your money for more important things like new schools and ne teachers

How about sending all the iilegals back home? That will put less people on the roads. It will reduce the crime too.

how many times do we the voters have to vote down commuter rail? seems like the politicians don't believe the fact that we DON'T want commuter rail! maybe it's time to remove them from the equation by voting them out of office!

polecatextreme...the politicians only knows how to act before thinking things fully through in order to get bigger contribution, you scratch my back..I'll scratch yours kind of thing, that's why they can not be trusted or honest! Eliminate the parties, problems seem easier to be solved quicker! Right ON!

Deltonian....I agree, that would at least cut back on some crime and sinceless road accidents as well!

Elizabeth...I say Nay! There are just as many fatalities on the track as our roads, the difference is that at least with a vehicle there is a stronger possible way to also avoid an accident, but with a train there is no avoiding nor any kind of mercy. There has also been allot of removals of train guards and warnings. I will say this...There is still train activity in Titusville and Cocoa that causes traffic back ups, tampers flairing, aggravation, delays, and long sittings while a turtle train inches through very slowly because of overloadeds and way to many cars. To avoid it you have to drive further down to the next town to go around but sometimes that doesn't always work either because the train cars are known to expand that long at times...been there, done that! It's no fun at all! 411...if the traffic is packed and you are stuck, you could be sitting there sometimes for an hour or more or drive on the side walk just to get away from it!

Sorry about the book!

Love the idea....... it means our community is growing and the economy in central fl is doing much better. It has its good and bad points, but in overall is better to develop a good public trasportation because it attracts companies or major corporations to the area. That of course means more jobs and the whole city benefits from that.
