Is there such a thing?  What do you think?

Here's what I found:

Compact cars can give you around 32 miles per gallon of gasoline.

A mid-size sedan... 21 to 22 miles with a gallon.

Cross over vehicles (a cross between a medium suv and sedan).. 20 to 21 miles per gallon.

Hybrids .. somewhere around 40 miles per gallon.

Our Toyota Matrix gets over 30 mpg in the city. It really helps our pocketbook. Highway were up around 40+. I think the Matrix is considered a crossover. I thought it was a modern station wagon. LOL

Chevy metro and Suzuki swift both got well over 40 MPG and where no hybred, because no one was buying them they have been discontinued. The “problem” is not that higher MPG cars are not available it is that people are not buying them .
People are still buying large SUV's , the most popular selling* ford only gets 10 mpg .

If you're shopping for a car & want to find something economic in a particular class (or overall) you should definitely check out this government website:

Honda and Toyota seem to have the best MPG compared to the rest, no matter what size or class of car you are looking for, and they are for the most part affordable, and dependable.
Yes I do love my Honda Accord, and it gets awesome gas milage.

You might want to do some research about the feasibility of using natural gas to fuel cars. It is plentiful and clean, but no one wants to talk about it because it won't make the money for the corn farmers and oil people. Another possibility that is ignored is steam powered cars, and powerful trucks...yes there were some in the early days of the automobile. Just ask Jay Leno.

Reminds me of the late 70's early 80's. Gas on odd or even days depending on your tag. Then came all the small cars with better milage. I guess... here we are again...

LET THEM GUZZLE CORN!!

My only issue with the Toyota Matrix is that it's not E85 compliant.

If we get this E85 thing going, it would bring down the price of gas. With the largest consumers using E85, the supply of gas would be far more than the demand. Most of the large Ford products can already use E85 and they would be guzzling corn instead of oil. Most of the vehicles that can use E85 right off the factory line are American made big trucks/vans/suvs.
