Too old to Change -- Douglas Chick

I am not a liberal, I am a conservative. My friends that still support the Iraqi war; stubbornly say it was the right thing to do. For whom I ask? Not for the 500,000 dead Iraqi’s, and certainly not the over 3000 dead American’s they gave their lives for people that would wish us all dead. McCann says that we will be in Iraq for 100 years, and that seems to be the conservative pledge. I will not pledge my tax dollar or give support to those that intent to spend money that I have not made yet. Having to choose between giving my tax dollars to Americans verses Iraqi’s, Saudi’s, or China, I think I will select my people first. If you want your money to go overseas, I will not stop you.

My friends that still follow their conservative party lines see nothing wrong with giving privilege to pharmaceuticals, oil, and insurance conglomerates, even though they are in middle-class tax brackets that are burdened by the seemingly endless hunger for more. Supply and demand is perhaps one of the most fundamental concepts of our economy and it is the backbone of our free market nation. It is those principles that made us the strongest country in the world, but something has changed, and we are no longer the richest nation. We now depend on countries like China to buy our debt. A communist country that was once a sworn enemy must by our debt to protect their economy? Lobbyist and special interests are no longer American born, but they are a threat to America.

Voting for a President is much more than voting for someone that shares, (or say they share) my ideology. The 20% devalue of the U.S. dollar, reduced my ability to pay my bills also by 20%, and subsequently I am left with less impulse purchasing dollars. With a choice of the remaining Presidential candidates, I have to select someone that is best for my tax bracket, not a candidate that is best for someone with a much higher bracket, or lower. Mike Huckabee says that he doesn't have a degree in math, he has one in miracles? We do not need miracles to save America, just honest people that are good at math.

I am no fan of the democratic mind-set, and probably never will be, but how poor a job has George Bush done that I must consider a democratic to save America?

Actually it's over 1,000,000 dead Iraqi's now. Another 2,000,000 Iraqi's are refugees who fled to other countries.

I think when you can not smell the blood and burnt hair or see the tramitized children trembling themselves to sleep, a million dead strangers don’t seem like a real number.

It also puts into perspective that even Saddam's reign of tyranny with weapons of mass destruction supplied to him by the United States Government, only killed 75,000 Kurds in 1987-1988.

But don't worry, our allies in Turkey will do their part in eliminating what's left of the Kurds in the North.

Well, These radical animals are killing innocent people in Iraq and elsewhere.

Rest assured, they will be HERE in no time when we retreat from Iraq.

You will be smelling blood and burnt hair here!
Maybe even be picking up pieces of your loved ones remains, after they were blown to bits.

HERE!

If you vote for retreat, it will be your own fault. And you will be blamed by us that did NOT vote for retreat, for this destruction.

I wonder how many will own up to it?

Duhhh... yeah... I voted for retreat...

Lots of people live in la la land!

Oh, if we just leave them alone, they will leave us alone.

You fools! They want to exterminate the US!

Any that believes that the muslim world means us no harm, needs to get a muslim "holy" book, and read it thoroughly.

You will have to live by it, or die.

That's what they used to say about Vietnam. It’s better to fight the commies in Vietnam instead of the USA. And now look at us, the commies manufacture most of our merchandise.

We will always be in danger from extremist from abroad and the one’s here too, like you Frank.

DaytonaFrank - what do you think is going to happen this July when the UN Security Council Mandate for our troops to be in Iraq ends?

You're still looking for a victory party aren't you? It's nothing more than a peacekeeping mission to protect the Iraq Government. There are no boogie men coming to get us.

TT, Those like you that believe "There are no boogie men coming to get us." are the ones I fear the most!

Your vote scares me! You think if we retreat and leave Iraq in chaos, and a vacuum for a new Saddam, or Osama, that will not affect our future security. Man. It gets tedious with you. You cannot grasp the very simple concept that a permanent base in the middle east is the best thing for our national security in the future.

You fail to grasp that Iran is very dilligently working on getting a nuclear warhead, and the means to deliver it/them.

We have had this argument so many times. I am growing weary of it.

Doug, what can I say. Anyone that can compare this with vietnam has no clue at all.

If you can call me an extremist for thinking that we need to have the upper hand, I can call you an extremist for wanting to surrender, and make the US the laughing stock of the world, not seen since the smiling Jimmy days!

You see, things are always to the extreme with you. Things are full speed ahead or surrender. I bet you have a lot more in common with the terrorist than you think?

How so? Because I believe the future security of this nation depends upon a permanent military base in the heart of the middle east?

Would that be terrorist? Or a necessary defensive strategy.

Walking away from this one, before Iraq is a stable democracy, capable of handling thier own security, is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.

And yes, we MUST keep a permanent base there. To back up the Iraqi's if need be, but also to keep an eye and anti-missile batterys focused on Iran.
The next nuclear weapon used in the world, will be made by them. Israel will be the first target. The US will be second. Britain will be third.

But let's just turn a blind eye to all that, walk away, and offer them flowers in exchange for hatred and destruction.

I guess it comes down to the choice of whether you want to live or die.

Sorry if that is too extreme for you Doug.

I would entertain any alternatives you may have.
There is no middle road on this one. Show me if there is.

What did that idiot George W say; "...Fool me once, and ...ah, fool me again...umm, well you're just not going to fool me again."

They won't get my vote again. Every vow they made was a lie. They lowered taxes for the rich buddies, and raped the middle-class. Never again. Never again.
