Storms in Florida crash more computers than any place on Earth. (And of course we have more tornadoes and shark bites too.) Here are 5 Tips to help you protect your computer in a storm.

1. Unplug computer and phone line from wall.
Electrical surges are dangerous to a computer, but most computers are lost from lightening hitting a phone-line and entering into your systems main board. So during a storm, it is always a good idea to unplug the computer from all electrical sources and phone lines.

2. Surge Protectors
Most people will not unplug their computer with every
little storm. Purchase a quality surge protector.

3. Water Damage
Always protect your computer from water, by first unplugging it from any electrical source, lift it off the floor and placing a garbage bag over it.

4. Backup Data
Regardless of the weather, you should always back up your important information to an external source. Such as an external hard drive, flash memory, or burn it to a CD ROM. You can also copy information to your MP3 music player.

5. Battery backups
Battery backups are always a good item in times of diverse weather conditions. A personal computer can last hours on a battery backup, long after you lose power.
