As if times aren't difficult enough all ready, with mortgage foreclosures, gas prices escalating, the cost of living sky rocketing, every, single day we hear of MORE people being laid off. Starbuck's closings will cost 12,000 people their jobs, the auto industry layoffs, 10's of thousands, teachers, thousands, nationwide, restaurants, manufacturing companies, service companies, builders, are going under, every day.   And we're wondering why the crime rate is escalating? HMMMMM, I wonder why elderly people are shoving a can of  peaches and a package of hamburger down their pants, instead of paying for it? Could it be, they can't afford to buy groceries, medication AND gas? "Hmmm,  do we starve, buy gas, or buy our heart medication, or do we try to "lift" dinner tonight?" How about an all ready  struggling family of 4, Daddy gets "laid off," goes on Unemployment, gets roughly 40% of his normal wages. NOW WHAT? That "snowballs" them right into a "homeless situation."

The food pantries, EVERYWHERE  are bare, because people who normally give, can't, because they're struggling to feed their OWN FAMILIES!!!!

WHEN IS OUR GOVERNMENT GOING TO WAKE UP? They don't care, because their salaries are so big, they're not affected, and neither are the "big wheel CEO'S" of all the major corporations in this country. The Arabs who are yankin' our chains are laughing, ALL THE WAY TO THEIR BANKS! WHILE WE SIT HERE AND SINK IN OUR T.P. CANNOES, PADDLING UP THE SEPTIC STREAM! WHAT ARE THEY GONNA DO FOR THE BABIES OF THIS COUNTRY?

Its been all about greed for a very long time...only now it has hit the ave. taxpayer right in the pocket!
I dont know whats going to happen to the babies of this country, and yours there, is adorable.
But this is a boat i never wanted to float in, sometimes life puts us in bad situations, and it seems as though no one even cares, well now we are all in the same boat, and people are finally waking up, my concern is...Is it to late?

Thank you, Twiz! That is my first Grandbaby, so
innocent and oblivious to what's going on in the world. When I look at him and other babies, my heart just breaks! We are breaking DOWN, as a country, and it's just plain sad! I
wonder if we'll ECER recover from the state we're in today!

What is that Old vamp are you trying to say we can't “Tax” our way out of this one ? Don't be so glum Deb the villains in this little play are only interested in getting control in the next election ...they will lighten up a little after November ...that is when the speaker of the house say she will “Allow” discussion of oil speculation accountability and trade deficits AND NOT BEFORE THEN ! ..hey did you know that Nancy Pelosi is a major share holder /board member of Bank of America AND she is personally heavily invested in oil speculation, she has made over 4 million on speculation in the past 18 months...I wonder why she is not interested in making any changes !

You and I were posting at the same time RNC, so i missed your comment until now. Just how much do ya think it's gonna "lighten up," Buddy? I mean, we need a rocket's worth of lightning up, if things continue to plunge the way they have been!

Unemployment compensation in this state totally is out of whack. While I have not had the privilege of drawing unemployment, I do know this, you get aproximately 40% of the wages you got while you were working, if you're lucky. You can work and earn up to 40 dollars before they penalize you dollar for dollar on what you earn. Other states however allow you to make up to 50% of your unemployment draw before deducting from you benefits. I lost my main job in April, but because I have another job making $200.00 a week, my unemployment was denied, even though I had both jobs at the same time. Times are hard, but I've lived 42 years and been able to make it this far. I can't see $5 gas being that much of an obstacle. I just suck it up and cut my expenses. But we are in this mess in this country not because of big oil. We are in this mess by and large because we have been a country that is about instant gratification, and that has plunged many people into debt that they never should have took on in the first place. Too many for too long have lived outside of their means, and high gas prices aside, we saw this coming and kept doing what we were doing. We only have ourselves to blame, senior citizens included.

...as far as how much that is where my predictions get very sour , oil is now a “bubble” just like housing was last year and it IS going to pop : Production is up and consumption is down the “pump price” is all based on market speculation and that is still climbing ...problem is when it slips (and it will) it will start a landslide (also known as a market run) this will be a whole “new” disaster just like in the early 80's when oil suddenly hit $10 a barrel and our Federal government had to bail out both American and Mexican oil companies ...add to that the billions in federal (and state/county) tax that has been lost on our cutting back on consumption that MUST be paid back in the form of NEW gas TAX ...my prediction is that oil will drop to $22 a barrel this Christmas time but the pump price will never drop below $3 a gallon...

...now as far as the “weak US dollar” we will start talking about trade agreements after November and IF we make some changes in policy 3 to 6 months after that the dollar will start to strengthen, that will become the “bubble” of 09 ...with a whole new set of problems to go with it !

I would point out that in 08 12.5% of our “gas” was replaced by ethanol and we just took a hit (the flooding) that will cut production/raise the price in 09 but the impact will hit to late to keep the price of oil up...

Sip, That's the point I was trying to make. With the paltry wages Florida is all ready known for, slice that by 60%, and you don't have very much left!
RNC, you are some kind of "Sunny Side Up" kind of guy! I'm like that too, at times to a fault.
I'm not struggling, and if I were, I probably wouldn't know it, because I've always been a very down to earth kind of girl. I'm much more comfortable in the woods, than I am in a mall. But I see people who are struggling, kids who are hungry, read about people losing their homes, and I feel a kind of empathy I can't really describe. I guess, in a way I feel guilty, because my bills are paid, and I own my land and vehicles outright, but I'm not wealthy enough to go "handing out" money by any means. I do give to the local shelters, and volunteer with a disaster group, but I wish I could do more.

I love MOST people, especially children and old people, and I am especially offended when someone hurts one of them. "NEVER WRESTEL WITH PIGS, THE PIGS LIKE IT, AND YOU'LL JUST GET DIRTY!" Modified from a quote by my dear friend, jfore
