Mars Update

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Scientists say the Phoenix spacecraft has found a substance in the Martian soil that might be detrimental to possible life. If confirmed, it could mean the soil may not be as friendly as once thought. Scientists previously reported that the soil where Phoenix landed in May was Earth-like, containing nutrients such as magnesium, sodium and chloride. The latest lab tests show the presence of an oxidizing substance. NASA is investigating whether the substance could have gotten there by contamination.
How do you feel about all the money we're spending on this research?

Martian Water?

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Phoenix spacecraft has tasted Martian water for the first time. The robot heated up ice in one of its instruments earlier this week. Scientists say the chemical test confirms the presence of ice near the Martian north pole. Until now, the evidence for ice has been circumstantial. That was based on photos Phoenix took of a hard splotchy area near its landing site and changes it saw in a trench. Phoenix landed in the Martian arctic on May 25 on a three-month digging mission. NASA on Thursday said it was extending the mission another two months.

Have you seen the movie yet? If so, give us a review. If not, do you plan to?

'Idol' Runner-Up Blake Lewis Dropped by Arista Records
Wednesday, June 25, 2008

Blake Lewis is the latest "American Idol" finalist to be dropped by his record label, he told the Internet radio show Maximum Threshold.
Lewis, who finished second behind Jordin Sparks in Season 6, signed with Arista Records after the show and released "Audio Day Dream" in December. The album sold only 300,000 copies and did not produce any singles, prompting Arista to drop Lewis from its label.
Aside from the major success of past winners like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood and fourth-place finalist Chris Daughtry, many "Idol" winners and runner-ups have had a hard time after leaving the popular show.
Both Season 5's winner and runner-up — Taylor Hicks and Katherine McPhee — were dropped from their respective labels, and Season 2 winner Ruben Studdard was dropped from J Records for falling “short of expectations.”

Does this surprise you? Did you listen to the CD? If so, what are your thoughts?

Photos Purport to Show Miley Cyrus Flashing Midriff and Bra

Purported photos of "Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus pulling up her top to reveal her midriff while in the arms of a young male and pulling down her tank top to show off a green bra are floating around the Internet.
In the past, pictures of the 15-year-old singer-actress in her underwear and wearing bikinis have "leaked" online, supposedly hacked from her MySpace page.

At the recent "Idol Gives Back" charity event, Cyrus performed a song while dancing suggestively, causing some to question whether she's still kid-friendly.
But at the recent Kids Choice Awards, Cyrus took home trophies for favorite female singer and TV actress, thanking her mother, father, agent, manager "and my lord and savior Jesus Christ."
Cyrus earned a whopping $18.2 million in 2007, according to the annual "What People Earn" issue of Parade magazine.
Okay, what's your take on this? Do you think she's still kid-friendly?

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) -- A Bahamas jury has determined the death of Anna Nicole Smith's son was from an accidental drug overdose and recommends no criminal charges.
Anna Nicole's mom still doesn't buy it! Time for her to face reality or do you think she has good reason to doubt the jury's decision?
Hope you're having a fantastic week,

Idol Controversy

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Associated Press has learned that David Hernandez will remain on "American Idol," despite his past as a male stripper. Hernandez will perform Tuesday night as planned, said a person close to the show who is not authorized to comment publicly and asked not to be identified. A strip club manager confirmed to The AP on Monday that the 24-year-old from Glendale, Ariz., was a stripper at Dick's Cabaret in Phoenix for three years before joining the Fox singing competition. Fox has declined to comment on Hernandez or his status.
Will this sway your vote? Do you vote strictly on singing abililty or does image come into play? What's your definition of a true American Idol?

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Writers have a reputation as master procrastinators, yet they eagerly faced the blank page Wednesday as Hollywood sputtered back to life after a punishing 100-day strike. One day after the Writers Guild of America voted to end the walkout, writers on idled TV shows were back at the studios, reviewing projects with executives or pestering their agents to set up meetings. Agents were pitching, producers were assessing how to resume interrupted projects, and the little guys who keep the dream-factory engines running were just glad to be back at work. "It's back to school with all the trepidation of, `Do you remember how to do your job? And did you forget the characters' name?"' said Eddie Gorodetski, a writer for "Two and a Half Men." "I want to forget all the strike stuff and just make people laugh." "We, like every other writer in town, have a million calls in to our agents and managers to see what's next," said Brian Sawyer, who with partner Gregg Rossen had sold a sitcom pilot to Fox before the strike began Nov. 5. Amid the relief, however, was caution: The Screen Actors Guild could go on strike after its contract expires June 30. "Heralding that the strike is over is a half-truth because we have the Screen Actors Guild," said producer Peter Guber, former head of Columbia Pictures, current chairman of the Mandalay Entertainment Group and co-host of AMC's "Shootout." "The studios, unless they're going to start production in the next 10 days so they can finish it before June, aren't going to start the pictures."
So, have you missed your shows... or has American Idol been enough to hold you over???? What do you make of the potential for another strike?

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A restraining order against Britney Spears' friend and manager Sam Lutfi alleges that he drugged her, took over her life and finances and for months controlled the ravenous pack of paparazzi. The order, based on a lengthy declaration from Spears' mother, Lynne, says that Spears met Lutfi in October 2007 and "Mr. Lutfi has essentially moved into Britney's home and has purported to take control of her life, home and finances." The documents released by the court Tuesday ordered Lutfi to stay away from Spears. In a section of the order detailing previous harassment, Lynne Spears said "Mr. Lutfi drugged Britney, he has cut Britney's home phone lines and removed her cell phone chargers. He yells at her. He claims to control everything -- Britney's business manager, her attorneys and the security guards at the gate."
Does this make you feel in the least bit sorry for the pop star? Do you believe what her mother is saying?
