ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman says America needs a president that can be counted on in a time of war. For him, the candidate is Republican Sen. John McCain. The Democrat-turned independent says that while Sen. Barack Obama was voting to cut off funding for troops in Iraq, McCain took the unpopular position to support a surge in troops. "Because of that, today, our troops are at last beginning to come home, not in failure, but in honor," Lieberman says in excerpts that were released in advance of his speech Tuesday to the Republican National Convention. Lieberman says that in times like these, country matters more than political parties.

What do you think about Lieberman speaking at the Republican National Convention?

Thanks for blogging,

Corrina

Leiberman did an overall good job in the Key Note speaker position last night but I am not sure whether his appeal to the Dems and non-committed accomplished much. I’m thinking the venue was wrong but ???

I think the biggest part of the evening was when Fred Thompson spoke – although he appeared to not be feeling well, he hit a grand-slam.

What's a hoot is the same group of liberal media clowns couldn't stick their nose far enough of Obama-Biden's crack during the DNC; thriving and reveling on each sentence as if gods were speaking...now with the RNC, they have to criticize each and every speaker, concerting efforts to discredit them. Campbell Brown is an idiot!

Leiberman and Thompson were true in the speechs.

I think the speaches were good, Thompson is easier to listen to but Liberman is ok. It is drastically apparent where the generations of Americans are! The RNC last night looked like someone cleaned out the Villages, and retirement homes!

I realize our young Americans mostly from the colleges are DNC types, and we REALLY need to start stomping into that!

Yea we can all plainly see that MSNBC sets the tune and all other “TV personalities” dance like the liberal puppets they are ! ...Abunie stated the biggest divide between Obiden and McPalin , Obama draws on 100 years of Colleges teaching communist BS , the natural counter balance to the idiocy that kids learn in school is the real world and reality ! Just by getting a job and working (for the first time) the vast majority of those kids will evolve into realists and become far more conservative....the exception being anyone who enters government directly from school (Obama , Clinton , Pelosi etc) or goes to work in entertainment/public schools ...all of those environments separate their members from reality and perpetuate the idiocy of youth !

I think it was wonderful!!! He said just what McCain needed people to hear. So I wonder. Will Lieberman get a position in McCain's cabinet? I think after his speech and since Lieberman and McCain are friends he should.

Two great speeches! I think Fred gave the speech of his life last night, only if he did that in the begining we could have a different race.

Fred was great, but the shocker for me was Lieberman. He undoubtably swung quite a few votes in McCain's direction!
I was astonished to see an Independent and former Democrat speaking at a RNC, but man, that was a powerful speech!

Most Americans realize what Lieberman is: a political chameleon and opportunist, catering to whichever side suits his own interests at the moment. As for Thompson, his primary performance told us enough about him: lazy big mouth not willing to put a heck of a lot of effort into anything he does.

Although many (most) extreme liberals have forsaken Joe Lieberman, he holds to his principles. He still votes mostly with the left wingers even after they stabbed him in the back again and again. That is hardly being a chameleon or an opportunist. It does show how truly vicious the liberal extremists really are. Would I vote for him? No, he's too liberal. Do I respect him? Yes. He has demonstrated political courage that is sorely lacking today.

..The important fact to observe about Lieberman is that he clearly establishes the unpleasant truth of our government, that no good idea can see the light of day without making a deal with the “devil” . Conservatives MUST work with liberals in order to accomplish anything , John McCain understands this , it is also crystal clear that Obama does not ! John has a history of working across party lines to meet goals ...Broco Hussein Obama has a history of “talking” about working across lines BUT never ever actually fallowing threw on any of his “bipartisan” activity.

Who could work with Barry? He is a liberal right to his very heart, and the only way he crosses party lines is when they leave the senate on thier way to the parking lot!
