WASHINGTON (AP) -- Barack Obama's potential running mates ducked, dodged and semi-denied their way through a day of political intrigue Friday as the Democratic presidential contender readied a high-tech announcement of his pick for vice president.

"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, nooooo," Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius told reporters who asked for her latest thoughts on the months-long search.

Three days before Democrats open their convention in Denver, several officials said Rep. Chet Edwards, whose district includes President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, had made the roster of potential running mates. Sens. Joe Biden of Delaware and Evan Bayh of Indiana were also in the mix, as were Gov. Tim Kaine of Virginia and Sebelius -- and any unknown others Obama had managed to keep secret despite intense scrutiny. Hillary Rodham Clinton's prospects remained unlikely.

...Obama told reporters on Thursday he had made his choice, and aides used the prospect of a text-message announcement to try and attract additional supporters by soliciting their cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses. Even that became occasion for intrigue.

Late Friday, several officials said the text message announcement would be distributed Saturday morning, a few hours before a scheduled rally at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Ill., where the Democratic ticket would appear for the first time.

Several GOP officials said Friday that Arizona Sen. McCain, Obama's Republican rival, had not settled on a running mate -- nor offered the job to anyone -- although former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty were under serious consideration. It's likely McCain will wait to see who Obama selects before picking his running mate.

Officials said the campaign also was preparing for an "unconventional" nominee, an indication that oft-mentioned former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, an abortion-rights supporter, or Connecticut Democrat-turned-independent Joe Lieberman still could be in the running. That category also could include non-politicians whom McCain deeply admires, such as Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq.

Two officials close to Romney said he had not been offered the job.

We want you to make your predictions.  Who do you think Obama will pick? How about McCain?

Thanks for blogging.

Have a nice weekend,

Corrina

Have a nice weekend Corrina and stay safe.
You did not word your question properly Corrina. It sounds like you are asking if Obama is going to pick McCain as his running mate. Now as for Obama's running mate it will probably be Richards so he can have the Latino vote. If McCain picks General Petraeus that will be some ticket!!! Seriously two military tacticians on one ticket we will most certainly win the war then!!! Now you have got me excited Corrina McCain and the General. WOW!!!But McCain also needs someone who is a business man and that is Mitt Romney. I myself would put my money on Romney. But General Petraeus is an intriguing thought.

Obama stated that Washington was broken, we need change and he wasn't going to run the country the way it's been run for years. So, he then asks Senator Joseph R. Biden to be his running mate. Following Obama's stated poition that DC is broken, you have to wonder why he picked a running mate that has been part of the problem in DC for years?

Experience.

Exprerience is like “change”..The existance of it is not NEARLY so important as is the KIND of experience we’re talking about..

Kennedy has experience..Pelosi has experience..Reid has experience..And yes,, Biden has exerience too.. The kind rejected time after time by the American People.. He has a LOT of experience at LOSING..
Obama would have been better off picking REZKO.. At least he’d be doing something HONEST and FORTHRIGHT for a REAL Change…..

To answer the second part of ypur question,, Corrina,, and yes,, ANY confusion over that is PURELY my fault.. I simply cannot resist the temptation to be a smart$***..

Anyway,, I’d LIKE to see Santorum in there..He’s energetic,,makes me think pf a young Reagan and I believe that he,, and those LIKE him,, represent the hope for the party’s future.. Of COURSE this won’t happen.. McCain will try to EXPLOIT the rift in the Democrat party by appealling to those who have NO interrest in the conservative message and will NO doubt choose someone who’ll further fracture the Party..

Hawkeye is correct, "the kind of experience" is important. Obviously Biden has vast experience in the foreign policy area which is extremely important given our conflicts, and other conditions in the world. Our foreign relations are vitally connected to our domestic economic situation as a result of foreign trade policies, military spending, foreign aid, etc.

Maybe McCain will surprise everyone by selecting Ron Paul for VP and make this an unusually interesting race.

Wow so Obama has chosen Bill Clinton's military advisor as his VP pick , the “out of Iraq” and “lets just quit the war on Terror” candidate has decided that the very guy who got 8,000 soldiers killed under Clinton and made “friends” that expressed their love of this country on 9/11 is a “good idea”!...My favorite quote so far is from a reporter a 4am this morning (did not see what channel) : “Who knew the man for change was hiding in the senate for the past 35 years” ....Joe Biden = the “9/11 experience” !

RNC08, you pose a difficult question....."Is Obama's "Change" worth "dieing for?" It's hard because we do not know what the future holds. But I guess people are faced with the actualities of the present, with troops dying in Iraq and Afghanistan, or a possible change where those conflicts are ended.

I guess that it depends on whether you want a candidate that advocates the uncertainty of change or a candidate that advocates more of the same. Looking at our present economic and military conflict situation, many people are likely to favor a change.

Perhaps in keeping with a free market-private enterprise approach to problem solving, we might ought to privatize our military. Maybe that would remove it from politics and allow multi-national corporations oil corporations to foot the bill for protection of their private interests.

Obama was 100% Correct about ONE thing....The ONLY REAL change that he TRULY represents is that HE doesn’t LOOK like those guys on the Dollar Bills..EVERYTHING else about him is REGURGITATED Anti-American,, Anti-Capitalist Socialism..
