SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- A lawyer for Osama bin Laden's former driver said Thursday he would try to stop the first scheduled war-crimes trial at Guantanamo Bay now that the Supreme Court says detainees have constitutional rights. Other lawyers are expected to join in a blizzard of filings to the war-crimes tribunal and to U.S. federal courts after the ruling Thursday that detainees at Guantanamo Bay are entitled to habeas corpus, the right to challenge their detention in civilian court. Bin Laden's former driver, Salim Hamdan, has been held at Guantanamo Bay since May 2002, and is one of only 19 of the roughly 270 men still held who has been charged with a crime. His military trial was scheduled to be the first.

President Bush's response:

ROME (AP) -- President Bush on Thursday strongly disagreed with a Supreme Court ruling that clears foreign terrorism suspects at Guantanamo Bay to challenge their detention in U.S. civilian courts. Bush suggested new legislation may now be needed to keep the American people safe. "We'll abide by the court's decision," Bush said during a news conference in Rome. "That doesn't mean I have to agree with it."

What's your take on the Supreme Court's ruling?

Hi Corrina,
My take you really want to hear it! Well you asked! My take is this the SUPREME COURT needs to have all the judges removed, and the U.S needs to allow the people to vote on who we think would be a good Supreme Court judge. We also should be allowed to veto the presidents choices. Apparently these judges passed law school by coping other students tests. Or maybe they did pass on their own but this makes me think they are to dumb. They want these Murderers to come into America and sit in our court rooms and make comments about our country how it is the Devil and we should all be killed because bin Ladin and GOD said so. No thanks. No fair trail. No special treatment not even death. TORTURE TORTURE TORTURE!!!

Why not ask the victims if they would like to see these things get a fair trial.

It's amazing how fast America forgot about 9/11. And then we have people like yellowdog who thinks the prisoners should be treated better than our own troops. I hope everbody see's this is how the left works.

If I had the power, I'd just fire everyone and start my own clan of people. We have too many dumbasses in charge.

Do let's remember that this ruling flies in the face of previous rulings that state that the Supreme Court has no jurisdiction over non-Americans detained overseas.

This is a violation of the Separation of Powers Act

The consequences of this ruling are going to be severe.

It tells me that if I were commanding the troops in theatre, priority one would be to take no prisoners.

I say shoot everyone of them and stop making the taxpayers foot the bill to keep them locked up.
