Love of coffee killed his career

Fired for his love of coffee. Lt. Major Garvin was fired for allegedly intimidating Starbucks employees time and time again. Employees say almost six times a day, every other day, the Lt. would stop by and demand free cups of specialty coffees. The manager says officers receive free cups of regular coffee but not mocha's or passion iced teas. The Lt. allegedly told them if he didn't get his coffee, response times to the area would increase. Police Chief Mike Chitwood says he's hurt and embarassed but had no other choice but to fire him after he failed a lie detector test. What do you think? Does the punishment fit the crime?

A bizarre story out of Deland. Police arrested 46 year old Gregory Praeger for battery. Praeger lives with his mom and apparently got into a heated argument with her this weekend. Cops say Praeger threw a 3 pound package of polish sausage at his mom, grazing her head. Mom called cops and pressed charges. He's behind bars on $500 bail. Police say no matter what was thrown, it was still a violent act. What do you think? Crazy or overboard arrest?

City after city in central florida is cancelling fourth of July fireworks shows. City leaders in Winter Springs, New Smyrna, Deland, and Cocoa Beach say it's just too expensive to run them. In these tough economic times, cities had to trim the fat somewhere. But do you think they made the wrong decision? Do you think fireworks isn't a big deal? Or do you really count on the shows for a good time?

Folks living in an Orange County neighborhood want one of their neighbors... a halfway house to leave. Open Homes Fellowship is a faith based rehab center for men only. Residents don't like the idea of convicts walking their streets especially because the halfway home is just yards from a soccer complex where hundreds of kids roam on any given day. What do you think about this crusade? Should the commissioners do something? If so, what?

Another Super Bug is going around. I was the latest victim. I've been sick with a horrible flu... I've been running a temperature for two days, I've also had the chills, I'm dizzy and my body's been aching. It seems as if the bug is going around the office. Have any of you been hit by the bug? How long have you been out?

A Seminole County dad has been arrested for child abuse. Cops say a Winter Springs dad beat his 7 year old boy for bad grades. It's just another sad case of abuse. A child abuse network says they've seen more cases of abuse. They tell us the economy is partly to blame... mom and dad are stressed out, they're having money problems. Another reason? They say the number of cases are up 21% this year because more people are more educated about reporting child abuse. Any thoughts on this?
Authorities have in custody, Brian Crower, accused of setting at least one fire in Brevard County. But authorities say there may be more arsonists out there. The sick part about all of this is cops say people are calling in "pretending" to be the firestarter just so he or she can get his or her spotlight in the media. What do you think about these people? Anyone else bothered by this?

Last month, someone snatched 72 year old Glorida Harteis's purse... in it... her life savings, that and three diamond rings. A Planet Fitness manager, in the area at the time, saw Gloria and now is trying to help her out. He's opened up an account at a local bank. What are your thoughts on this? Would you do the same for someone you didn't know?

Chrysler is offering folks who buy their new cars an incentive... it's a deal they hope you won't be able to pass. If you buy a car they will give you gas at $2.99 a gallon for the next three years. Right now gas prices are around $3.52 a gallon and there doesn't seem to be any relief in sight. Do you think this is a good deal? Will you buy Chrysler just to get cheap gas?
A Noose... crime or not?

It's been nearly two weeks since a noose was found hanging from a tree in the front yard of an african american family. The teen admitted to hanging the noose. The state attorney says it's having a difficult time finding a crime in this case. Florida law notes burning a cross in a family's yard as a hate crime, but there is nothing that says displaying a noose is a hate crime. A senator from Miami is hoping to change that... she's introduced a bill that would make it a hate crime. What do you think? Should a noose get the same treatment?

Investigators found a sex swing, a stripper pole and a room that was converted to a "watch" room. The club says folks do not pay, just donate money. Alison Pastor is the woman whom authorities say is the lucky one. Cops say Jennifer Latham tried to snatch her baby away from her last week, but she played it cool and smart. She confronted Latham and grilled her about why she wanted to take her baby away. As a parent, or as a parent in waiting, what would you have done? Do you have any questions you would want to ask her about her situation?

The Winter Springs City Commission will decide tonight how much to charge residents as part of a fire impact fee to help with their budget deficit. According to a consulting group hired to help the commission crunch the numbers, residents could be charged a flat rate of about $200 a year or residents could be charged depending on the size of their home. The mayor says residents have told them they don't want their services to disappear, so that's why they're thinking of the fire fees. But residents say it's just not fair! What do you think about the proposals?
